[Huey George] Update #8 from 10 Downing Street - October 2014

Day 2,534, 05:53 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by 10 Downing Street

Intoduction

My last brief update was not my last! I'm humbled and grateful to all those who continued to support my term as Country President especially those in Congress which voted down the Impeachment Law Proposal 18 'No' Votes to 17 'Yes' Votes.

However it was a very close run thing and I'd be the first to admit I've got a lot of work to prove my merits to those against me in Congress and to continue to ensure the faith place in me by my supporters is not misplaced.

I'd also like to stress I do share the entire nation's frustration with our unsuccessful Canadian Campaign.

Our path to peace with Canada, a Capital idea and Oil trade

As mentioned in my last update we are working toward peace with Canada with no concessions, just a end of hostility offered by the Canadians as they have no interest in continuing to battle us for our regions. Our Congress seems very likely to approve this peace proposal. Once Congressional sign off is confirmed the course of actions would be;

A British law proposal to propose no natural enemy
A Canadian law proposal to propose no natural enemy
On the success of the two proposals above a peace proposal from the United Kingdom to Canada.

Our peace process has made slow progress and unfortunately our forces lost in Scotland and therefore lost the initiative as the message takes time to filter to citizens and allies. However I'm still in a positive mood about it.

This loss of the initiative does lead us to an opportunity which some in Congress are keen on. Moving our Capital from Belfast, Northern Ireland to the region with our most citizens (currently London) which does lead to an advantage our Capital becomes less easily separated from the rest of our regions (ie losing in Scotland). In this regard I've asked the Canadians to consider attacking Northern Ireland with their initiative in the aim if there is general consensus in Congress and among our citizenry another loss against Canada would be an acceptable price of moving our capital.

I have also started a Government Sponsored Resistance war in Scotland and asked the Canadians to ask their citizen not too fight in Scotland to allow us to restore some of our resource bonuses quickly although I'm aware this means the Canadians will need to launch an attack on Northern Ireland before Scotland is secured.

I'm still awaiting a response from Canada on the Northern Ireland/Scotland plan above.

A final note partially related to the above. The Canadians have asked about the possibility of renting one of/or arranging a region exchange for one of our oil regions (We have two East Midlands and East of England)

While I'm open to the possibility it would extend beyond the end of my term and probably the current Congressional Terms, so it needs to be considered and consulted more widely.

So as a starter for 10, and my thoughts shared with Canadian officials.
I feel if we both settle for 10% region exchanged that'd be the easiest option.

Canada > East Midlands
United Kingdom > Prince Edward Island (Deer)
Another easy option is a 10% rental (rental agreement to be negotiated)

Canada > East Midlands
A direct link to the Capital becomes an issue for region swap (as Newfoundland and Labrador would be vital for both nations to enjoy the 20% bonus)

Canada > Newfoundland and Labrador > Wales > West Midlands > East Midlands
United Kingdom > Scotland/Wales or South West of England > Newfoundland and Labrador > Prince Edward Island
A direct link to the Capital also becomes an issue for a 20% rental (rental agreement to be negotiated). As I'm fairly sure on inspecting the map this would cut the United Kingdom in two so dependent on the location of our Capital it would only have direct links to part of our core resource bonuses.

Canada > Newfoundland and Labrador > Wales > West Midlands > East Midlands
Personally I'm a fan of a 10% region swap. However it requires more input from Canadian officials and input from you all.

I admit discussions are at a very early stage however I feel I was elected on ensuring the wider eUK citizenship are informed about the activities of Government and have the chance to contribute their say with referendums held on nationally important decisions. Any region rental/exchange agreements fit this remit and why not involve every citizen as early as possible so we can all have a say. It'd also save a lot of justifying the UK citizens Congress and I have been chosen by as fair representatives weren't keen on any type of region deal. A check on my ability to interpret the 'new world' map is also nice.

MoF Update

Finally alongside my Ministry of Defense, my star performer, my Ministry of Finance has done a sterling job (however quietly in the background). So being a former MoF man, I'd like to bring some of there efforts into the limelight with an update for you all. Also being a former MoF man, I'm sure Paulus and Argo will testify, I've found it hard not to get involved and dabble to.
