The CPF - A Study in Double Standards
Muglack
People paying attention to the media will be aware by this point of the "scandal" surrounding the MDP's CP candidate this month IBB93.
In case you haven't read Auk Rest's article I will provide the link here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/unfit-to-rule-2313913/1/20
Auk Rest writes that the CPF had chosen their candidate and in what can only be seen as a underhanded and completely unacceptable move by the MDP's candidate IBB93 asked Lelouche to withdraw his bid for CP and join his ticket in an attempt to safeguard eCanada from a threat.
Neither side denies the act, although where each stands on the merits of the request appears to be blurry.
This of course has absolutely no bearing on my article.
My article is a brief history lesson, in fact it's not really a lesson. It's more of a "What do you know, history really does repeat itself." commentary. Only the players are different, and the roles have been reversed.
This isn't the first time we've seen a candidate from the CPF or the MDP petition the other to join their ticket instead and safeguard our eNation.
It happened in the spring of last year when one SaraDroz, a long time member of the CPF, approached the MDP's PP and CP candidate Sasha Kamihasaweinerbutdoesntwantit with the EXACT same offer. The nation is under threat, be my VP, we all win, blah blah blah.
Unfortunately the similarities end there. At the time SaraDroz was applauded as a Patriot within the CPF and heralded as a "bridge builder", as a result her stock in the CPF rose even higher.
Yet interestingly, when a candidate from another party does the same thing the CPF feels that they are no longer fit to lead.
All that's left is for me to ask a simple question.
Does the Double Standard lie with the CPF, or does it belong to Auk Rest alone?
Comments
Auk Rest, he just used the CPF tag to push forward his own party. I'm sure CPF is innocent as well as IBB since the PM means absolutely nothing except a precaution to PTO. (Even if unlikely)
I accept your hypothesis.
It was my initiative, my decision, and my opinion. I still stand by my article and the message is there.
I literally lol'd at Sasha Kamihasaweinerbutdoesntwantit
xD
trying to form a coalition to win a CP race vs sharing and publishing PM's while the Speaker of Congress
which one is worse
good memory Muglakattack (you can use that)
As it's the Speaker's job to maintain decorum and the continued functioning of government, (as both you and Muglack well know) who better? This exposed attempted election tampering after all.
It also strikes me as odd, that you bash Auk Rest, who didn't leak the PMs, he wasn't a recipient. Someone else leaked them first.
using the term "election tampering" is a pretty far reach when its one candidate asking another to drop out for a position in thier administration for some silly reason, im sure it happens all the time and if it doesnt then it should as it seems to be smart politics
I didnt bash anyone specifically in my comment and it could be said that LeLouch was wrong for sharing and passing on PM's just as I believe Auk Rest publishing them was wrong, I wouldnt trust either of them for future dealings
Auk Rest tried and failed it seems if you take into account all the negative comments in his article to smear IBB for something pretty weak and as Muglack pointed out it isnt exclusive to the MDP
I have conducted my Speakership completely apolitically. I am not using it as a pulpit to bash on anyone. My opinion is my opinion alone. Slander is not fun.
ahh so when your on the eCan forums your the Speaker but in the media your a lone wolf bringing the truth to the masses
gotcha
quick question
was this really the "scandal" you wanted to show people your willingness to print PM's in the media and show how untrustworthy you can be, shouldnt you of saved it for something really juicy and scandalous and not something that probably happenes in one form or another in every good election month
I did not use the position of Speaker in my article, my speakership is separate from my media, it is not a difficult concept. Lelouch shared the pm in the moose call, just like he told ibb he would. I saw it, asked for the full transcript and published.
with IBB's permission right?
Try reading the message again.
hmm, I recall him saying he would "consult" the CPF, and there would be "internal discussion". I don't exactly remember him asking if he could show the PRIVATE Message to anyone quite frankly. But hey, not like I was in that PM or anything.
I think I found that election:
http://www.erepublik.com/en/main/presidential-elections/23/1333609200
Sara was not even on the ballot and it doesn't look like CPF supported anyone. I guess she pulled out and let Sasha run or maybe there was a glitch, like what happened with Corrigan this time. Whatever the case, she didn't get the official nomination, which indicates that maybe her stock didn't get so high as some remember.
I'm sure there is a very lengthy and scandalous story to explain all this. Meanwhile, there's a not-so-bad survey for people paying attention in the media to be aware about. And it has poop, too.
I think the two situations, while identical in action, are wildly divergent in motive. The most recent incident I think gets to people, because of the pretty transparent "PTO" threat. DMV3 didn't ask to run, he was asked to run by pillars of the eCanadian community.
So we have two players, both good guys I like, discussing a possible collusion in effect to prevent a massively popular heroic figure from coming in at the eleventh hour and "stealing" the election from one of the two of them. Unfortunately for the two fellows in question, they really aren't well known outside of tight government circles (where they are both respected) except as also-rans in past elections.
In fact, the entire ballot this election was going to be made up of relatively unknown eCanadians with some record of public service but virtually no name recognition.
I can see why that would annoy multiple candidates but doesn't provide a good justification for slandering the most popular candidate which is what I think turned off some prospective voters when it was made public.
p.s. I can't vote so I wish all candidates good luck on Thursday.
DMV3 did ask to run, he moved to eCanada to run, from what I can tell, for no particular reason other than fun.
Also, you don't think I'm well known outside tight government circles? That's kinda disappointing 🙁
Also, SOME record? I've got a decent list of Qualifications I'd say :/
You think I'm the most popular Candidate :')
P.S. You forgot the
"
Goran Thrax
"
😉
Looking at it from an eCanadian perspective, I've held more Canadian Cabinet positions than DMV has, 1.
What he did in government in America is one thing, but it doesn't mean he's in the know of our Politics, and dealing a lot of damage for us doesn't qualifty him to be CP, otherwise any influential MU commander of our allies has the right to waltz in for citizenship just to be CP.
He was the 3x US advisor to Homer, I know because I was also there as eCanada's MoD. An advisor is not exactly a Canadian Cabinet Position as much as it is a foreign correspondent.
For Example, I'm a 2x Advisor to eNL and 1x to eIreland, doesn't mean I can move to eNL/eIr and run for CP!
IBB, in my defense I believe I was more involved during Homer's terms than you were. 😛
Yep its time to the country to vent its 6 monthsbuild up worth of political frusration
Both players have been there for eCanada and the thought of a new canadian from the states becoming president is alarming, could have been so alarming that he felt he had to act?

This is so wrong on so many levels. Honestly, Muglack how far did you have to dig to find something where the CPF might have done something similar to the thing I'm attacking? It is perfectly within my bounds to criticize because I was not even returned to the game when SaraDroz made this 'deal', that 'deal' is almost two years old, and you're really grasping at straws here.
My article was not an attack on the MDP, it was an attack on its candidate. I believe the article only mentions the MDP in the way that it is the party IBB was running under. But of course it would be natural of you to turn this into a showdown between our parties. My opinion is my opinion, and I was pissed off when I found IBB had sent that to Lelouch, and I felt I had to say something about it.
So I did.
I only mentioned our parties because they were the two involved the last time one of these deals made headlines.
Only that time the CPF Candidate was the one making the offer and the CPF heralded the act like it was the second coming of Christ.
This time a member of another party (just so happens to be the MDP again) makes the offer and the CPF leadership (namely you) is up in arms over the whole thing.
There is a double standard, and with each passing month this "New CPF" looks more and more like the "Old DAL".
Only somebody who doesn't actually know the party would make such claims. The fact is that since we got a Congress the CPF has gained over 20 members, and we are as lively as ever.
I'll eat my words tomorrow if I'm wrong and I'll tell you so tomorrow if I'm right. Deal?
[removed]
Activity and "lively"ness has NOTHING to do with the similarities between the current incarnation of the CPF and the DAL of old.
Your candidate will win the election tomorrow because the CPF has the most sheep that click a logo they recognize. That reminds me of another party, which one was it again?
You go through the game thinking that your party does no wrong, and even when you do EXACTLY what someone from another party does their acts are despicable and yours were honourable. Once again, that reminds me of a party from the days of old.
As you just mentioned you count your worth not by the things you accomplish, but by the number of members you have. Quantity over quality, are any of these comparisons shedding light on the party you've begun to emulate yet?
Well on the bright side i suppose our ballot could have been something like this:
Rylde
Rolo
Chucky
or that James R Bond guy who seems to run every election and get a vote or 2.
P. Magee
Don't lie you'd vote for me again based on entertainment factor alone
I have in the past done that yes. But you were also running against 1 person.
Chucky Norris ftw. (;
Keep it above the belt folks
Strength and Honour
/me grabs popcorn
Ahem...
So my guess is that you and Sasha hashed things out and found an agreement where one of you would support the other, explaining why you weren't on the ballot. Of course, that's hopeful speculation, because the whole scene created by Auk Rest's and Muglack's articles does a disservice to the Canadian political image (from my perspective).
I'm just not digging these hissy fits on all sides of the fence.
As I recall - and my memory may not be accurate - Sasha and I fell out.
