This Was Supposed To Be An Oblige Endorsement

Day 2,540, 21:36 Published in USA USA by GoneAndGone

To those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been a lot of things in my days here in eRepublik. I have been a citizen of the eUnited States as well as eSouth Africa; I have been president and peasant, i have been MoFA and mofo, I’ve been the hero and the villian. I played it all, and enjoyed my time doing it. It’s why after five long years, I still play, I talk to new citizens when approached, and advise presidents when they honor me with their inquiries.

One role I’ve been particularly proud of, is that of a friend. I’ve made some great friends in this game; Evry is my girl, I text her all sorts of dumb stuff that she just laughs at; Vanek26 is my friend who keeps coming and going. While he’s here, we talk about all sorts of geeky stuff, and reminisce about the days when we used to top tier ballers. Israel Stevens has been a lot of things to me too - too many to even describe in this article.

As has Oblige. Oblige helped me a lot in my early career, and helped develop me as a politician and political elite. He’s also been my life mentor at times when I’ve needed it, to which he knows I’ve always been thankful.

But as Oblige’s friend, I need to be clear, his actions regarding Dave Gulya’s resignation are unacceptable.

In case you have missed it, in response to Dave’s resignation, Oblige posted in his article that it was amazing.

He finds joy in crushing the dreams of an active and promising new player. Seeing that disgusted me. I remember being in Dave’s shoes. The first time I ran for the presidency, I got crushed by someone who had been President four times already, and as history would show, would end up being a seven time President. It was daunting to go up against such formidable odds, but I was always appreciative of how this person treated me.

He showed me respect. He personally messaged me and told me how I had shown the community great strength by running a full campaign against him. And I always remembered that, and the confidence I gained from that allowed me to run again, and again, and again, until I finally edged out my first victory. If I had been disrespected as Oblige has done to Dave, I would’ve quit the game.

And that is the heart of the issue. By treating new players as nothing more than obstacles in his way to personally glory, Oblige has set back months, if not years, of new player development. For the first time since my generation, we have a strong core of new players ready and willing to take over. We also have a group of older players both willing and able to raise them up, show them the tools of the trade, and guarantee them the same success we had in our days.

I’ve spent much of my time in e-Retirement simply being a troll, but my new mission is to raise these new players up as best I can. My first student is Dave, who I am now throwing my hat in for. I am withdrawing as Secretary of Media for Oblige, and throwing all my support and pull behind Dave. I encourage you all to do the same, not being Dave’s the best candidate, nor because he will be the greatest CP, but because he will be the first step in what I hope to be a long line of new citizens rising up to take over and lead this nation for the foreseeable future.

This isn’t about the presidency, this is about setting a precedent. Will you join us?
