[DG4CP] From the Bottom Up

Day 2,540, 21:33 Published in USA USA by Dave Gulya

Hey America,

Now that I’m back into this election with both feet, I need to let you all know what I want to accomplish as President of the United States.

I feel like the community that we have here is a very strong and vibrant one. But too often we let the oldest amongst us dictate the agenda to the next generation. During my time in Congress, I watched as various Elites would beat down newer members of Congress who tried to voice their ideas. Often time, the new player’s idea wasn’t feasible or just wasn’t a good idea. But the wrath that they endured from the senior members was uncalled for.

Everyone has ideas, and everyone should feel free to share those ideas with the community. They may be bad ideas, but instead of jumping down people’s throats we need to do a better job of educating them.

This is the major theme of my campaign: A Better, Nicer New Player Experience

Secretaries Training Deputies
I believe that people shouldn’t spend more than a few months in the same position. They tend to get burned out, or start to cut corners. This isn’t good for the country. But more importantly, the stagnation at the Secretary level isn’t good for the community.

One of the primary jobs for my Secretaries is going to be training their deputies. Deputies should be involved in the cabinet, not just names on a list. anyone can collect names for a cabinet, but I expect my Secretaries to do the much more difficult task of training their underlings.

While I respect the hell out of players like WildOwl and dmjohnston, but they are so entrenched in their respective jobs, that growth has stagnated.
Yes, dmjohnston might be the best Secretary of Defense we’ve ever had, but he has failed at educating people to take his place.
I have noticed WildOwl working more towards educating new players the past few months. But this comes only after he was Secretary of State for the better part of 2014.

My Deputy Secretaries will be expected to be an active participant in their department. When I leave office, there will be people ready to make the next step and assume the role of Secretary.

Active Recruitment
From what I have seen, the Executive often times waits for newer players to come to them. For people to show some sort of desire to help, or get involved. I understand why we do that. We want people to show a desire to work, before we put any faith in them.
But I don’t think that is working. I want to seek out America’s Best and Brightest and put them to work for our country. Too often, our government seems confusing and intimidating. We have players who have been here for years. It can be a daunting task interacting with people that have already put so much time into this country.

I want to try and change that. I want to take new players that show hints of activity and give them tiny tasks to perform in the Executive. Being an ambassador to another country. Writing a few paragraphs for the WHPR. Watching a battle for NSC. Helping Interior give out supplies. There are loads of small jobs that can be performed by new players. I want to seek out the input of the Top 6 Party Presidents to scout up and coming talent. I want to get them involved as quickly as possible, and show them what eRepublik can actually be.

Armed Forces Activity

One of the things that I have been working on over the past few weeks has been boosting the activity in the USAF. This involves moving people around, promoting some soldiers into higher ranks and generally setting things up so that the USAF can have Regiments that compete against each other for contests. Once the system is fully implemented, it will allow us to better facilitate communication throughout the branch, and place Platoon Leaders in a better position to encourage activity. I want to promote activity and inclusion by giving players that would otherwise just 2-click, fight and log out, a reason to stay around and interact in the meta game. It makes them feel wanted and that they are an important part of the team.

I am also hopeful that the renewed activity in the Armed Forces can help with recruitment. If people see that the Armed Forces are a fun group to hang out with, they will be more likely to join them.

Press Briefings

This isn’t so much a goal, as it is something that I enjoy. If I’m elected President, I plan on continuing to do these threads myself. It would give me the chance to interact with citizens directly, and show that I’m not sitting in an ivory tower. I’m just another member of the community.

Let’s fight back against feeling left out and irrelevant! Let’s show them that they are wrong when they berate you for expressing your ideas! Let’s band together against their trolling and stand up and fight together to help grow and revitalize this great country of ours!

These great Americans believe in me! Do you?
