The Death- Part 2
Callumh123
Greetings Australia,
I'm going to try be terse for once as I have been writing all day for assignments I have been doing. This article was suppose to come out a week ago and has been idly sitting in my word documents for the length of time.
I decided to wait until the day of the election to outline my plan, which I hope for my sake is in line with the Ilene KHMC era;
It appears an effort has already been made to move our beleaguered and under utilized Senate to the forums which is a good first step, but more will be done this coming term.
I have updated this article slightly because of recent events and I am assured a spot as Congressmen (Senator) this month as the number one candidate for the KHMC Senate team, which is an honour I am undeserving of and will fight to ensure the leadership have not made a most terrible mistake.
I have plans to bring the Senate back to life this month, in fact I am making it my goal for the next couple of months. This is why I have rejected cabinet posts in Australian and abroad.
My first move will be to change the forum we are now calling home (which is here by the way).
Ilene Dover has made the admirable attempt to get people over there through her article 'The eAustralian forums'. But there is still much to be done.
The transparency of the Senate on the forum is as bad as the pm Senate board. No one outside of Senate knows what they are doing. I wouldn't have the slightest idea of what the current internal structure of the forum would be.
My proposal is to go back to the structure of the old forum. Have in forum laws and discussions, and vote on things for the CP to click buttons on. This will need to start with an overhaul of the Senate function on the forum.
I plan to work with Guagature and Gueneo to get this done and to start getting laws in the Senate for people to discuss. People I feel will want to get onto any sort of discussion so it would be a good chance to convert people.
I will be looking for Senators elected in the ongoing Senate election to help. If you are a current candidate who is likely to be elected, state below if you wish to get involved in getting the Senate on track.
My proposal is in the following steps:
1. Reform the Senate section of the forum so that the Senate is open to the public to witness, but allows functionality for secret debate if it is needed, and also a voting hall that the CP/Dictator needs to witness and to respect the decision by elected officials. Also set up a public discussion sub forum for those who are not senators to present or discuss laws or topics.
2. Create a simple constitution that outlines what the Senate's role is and how to conduct itself. Also to create the role of the Speaker.
3. Get Senate to agree on that, and then form a Senate Standing Order for specific rules on how discussion and votes are cast.
4. Elect a speaker who will uphold the constitution and SSO.
5. Begin drafting and debating laws in the Senate. This will be the most important part for Senators to contribute
6. Make sure the Senate is in good shape for the Senate coming in after that.
Please feel free to comment below with any concerns, criticism or points you would like to raise.

As I said before more Admins or Mods can be put in place if it is required to get the forum going.
There is no urge at this point by the community to make any forums work.
it appears the very forum you are somehow admin of is the preferred choice because it is setup. So deal with it. There is a small portion already trying to get them going. An active Senate, as you know, can make a forum incredibly active.
7 people online today, 3 more yesterday.
Admin is required t moderate cabinet as no CP on forums.
Again no urge at this point.
Do I need to ss the 17 pages of Admin actions to show you what I deal with? I am dealing with it along with the other Admins on the forums
New mods are required to clean the forums but there is no point just putting anyone in that spot they need to want to help out
Cabinet isn't necessary on the forum, but Senate is. I am happy to help clear out some of the clutter if you wish and reformat the Senate section.
Cabinet on the forums is necessary to retain discussions, much like the old forums had huge amounts of relevant information that could be looked up when needed. For a noob who is given the chance to be a deputy in cabinet the forums can be a wealth of knowledge if they choose to sift through old discussions

Could always use your help mate
When the time comes, let me know
Thanks Cal. I will respond in two parts. Firstly, you're at the head of our queue as a quid pro quo for your support of a newbie wannabe Senator 3 months ago. Retaining that spot next month will need results... 🙂
Secondly, thank you for writing half to one third of the article I wanted to but didn't (refer my reply earlier about work hours...). We have talented and capable people in this country yet we struggle to hear their voice. I will set it out in baby steps for those that do not know.
The game imposes a maximum 30 participants in a multi-PM. This is irritating in a 30 seat senate, because the CP must also be involved (making 31 members). With all our regions we have 40 seats. Running parallel PMs is entirely unworkable and a waste of time for those that must be in both (presably CP and ministers). Finally, if you have never been in a senate PM (you're not missing anything) it is filled with trolling, flaming, late replies that derail a discussion and parallel confusion when trying to discuss more than one subject at once (which happens all the time). It is unworkable, and I say that coming around for my fourth term soon.
A forum offers the possibility of moderation. All the disgusting insults and off topic discussions cable moderated away. We can have a separate these for each topic, including a response deadline for time critical issues. We can establish committees (like the recent one on taxes that is nearly finished).
It is th first, last and only solution with a realistic chance of working. Forumotion exists and is setup. Nothing else is. So, we should use it and improve as we go. As President of the KHMC, I endorse this pitch for use of the forum.
"it is filled with trolling, flaming, late replies that derail a discussion and parallel confusion when trying to discuss more than one subject at once "
I find your take on this quite absurd Ilene, I have never seen nor heard of such tripe in my time within this game
You were in the Senate thread when the pr3zzyy launched his revolution and when Xenthus/ANZAC BG kicked the door in. What's you're collection of the language and "quality" of the debate?
But, regardless, well played sir. I entirely took the bait. 🙂
Let me try again...
You stupid n00b?! wtf is wrong with y00z?!!!!!1 Pl0z vote my proposal for donation - is for a good cause!
Seriously though, do agree here on the trolling, derailing. The comments about the older generation strangling the community/holding it back or certain individuals trying to control things is actually absurd.
Especially when you look at the controlling directions used by some along with the inflammatory remarks used, such as a petulant child stamping their feet would.
Nothing to add to what I've writed in the past days.
Agree with all here, I'm still not sure about platform choice, but it's only one opinion.
Something I should edit into the article but wont because I doubt people will read again is, we need Government articles to feature links to forum and irc again. Something I will do later in the week is do a forum and irc guide for the Government, if they wish to use it.
I remember the old days when the articles had all the links. I am pretty sure I have the gdoc for that somewhere
If you know how to make clickable pictures to put at the bottom of articles, that'd be a awesome. 🙂

Oh god red tape.
Sorry what? How is there any red tape here? The dictator is (as always...) free to ignore a congress recommendation and do whatever they want.
If I have to choose between a stupid mega PM full of bollocks and hatred or a forum thread not full of it, I choose the forum.
Constitution, speaker, votes on forum = red tape.
Voting is good. I'm less concerned about the other bits. A basic rule on civility and OT discussions would be enough.
And it begins. Ronell the attack dog at it again. This is really he bare minimum.
Please do tell me your plan for Senate relevancy?
Ilene how do you think things get from point a to point b? You are far too idealistic if you think the entire Senate will work in unison and work in an anarchic fashion.
Cal, I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt (until proven otherwise). I also will treat peoe like an adult, because in my experience infantilising adults leads them to act like children.
Give people responsibility and a little respect, and they will repay you in spades. One day you might see it from my perspective. 🙂
I've gotta say Brig...
If there's a better way, let's hear it! Arguing over details is fine later on, but if we agree on the basics then let's get started!
Well as it looks like I will be on the senate again (an honor and privilege which I am amazed I have received again ). I will be happy to help. Unfortunately I can't get on the forums, however I will happily monitor and admin the chat
I think you are confused, what chat will you monitor if you cant get on the forums?
The IRC. I can get into that
Oooohhh
I will be an admin, and I have a few ideas that I will sort out tomorrow and then write up an article about.
I need to take some time to fully understand the forum structure etc, every time i go to, I yet confused by it lol. Tbh I find it hard to find anything...
