Old eRepublik History: Operation Valhalla

Recent war against United Kingdom was, of course, not the first one in erepublik between these two countries.

This article details Operation Valhalla, a war that happened from day 678 to day 683 of erepublik.

The context

In the beginning, Russia was a big country with a small population, and Norway was a small country with a bigger and stronger population, so war was predictable. Using the excuse of Russia signing an MPP with Indonesia, Norway declared war on Russia and attacked before MPPs became active. Indonesia and Iran tried to help with mobile squads, but didn’t manage to save the country.

Later, in a tricky manoeuvre, Norway sold Russian regions to Romania (actually handed them over for free), who held these regions until PEACE GC started fighting hard for Russian freedom. It was a hard war, which lasted more than 4 months. PEACE GC fought against ATLANTIS tanks, TOs, and many other things, but Good prevailed.

A long time passed, and Russia forgot, or at least forgave Norway for their actions, and instead concentrated on the North America War, which was PEACE’s direct response against Canadian and American imperialistic acts (and threats) against PEACE member countries. So, again, Norway attacked Russia, obeying EDEN orders.

Well, Norway, PEACE will forgive you, but we won’t forget... we won’t forget how your allies used you, how you were mistreated.... Today we begin...

It's time to go to war with Norway, together with our PEACE allies in Russia, we will tackle the Norwegian menace, and maybe even land ourselves some high oil.

Stay strong UK. Keep your wits about you, follow your orders, and together, we will be victorious!


The war, however, was not a unanimity among UK citizens, as you can see in this article published by Theus Jackus also in the same day.

Of course as many of you have found out in the last few minutes, the UK PM Glad0S (after debate in the private chambers of the HoC), decided to invade the nation of Norway. This action is being called "Operation Valhalla". Some of you may have seen the popular propaganda poster, which obviously would indicate that this move had been discussed and prepared for quite some time. This war is being justified under the brand that "it will be fun" and that we will receive two high regions of oil. While this is good, it comes at a price.

Before I attempt to detail the cons of this war, let’s look at a little bit of background information on the preclude to the war. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last two months, or are new to the game, you will know of the PEACE conquest of the North American Continent (except for Mexico), and the resulting wars and battles etc. You will also know that we are indeed a member of PEACE, who is obviously not too favorable towards Fortis or Eden.

Norway is a very loose member of Eden. It has remained extremely quiet over the past few months despite the fact at one stage it was a very powerful nation. It has displayed absolutely zero aggression towards either the UK or PEACE. It has made no attempt to declare war, embargo us or even try to piss us off. So that begs the question, why are we even invading?

The Government is trying to say that this will be a good move because we will secure two high oil regions, but it is well known to any basic eRepublik player that oil in any shape or form is pretty much worthless, as well as the Moving Ticket industry being notoriously difficult to turn even the slightest of turnovers. We already have a medium oil region in my home, Northern Ireland so this clearly isn't a valid reason.

Another reason presented is that it’s "a war for the lulz" and that it will be fun. As a citizen whose native country was subject to a brutal takeover, I find this comment absolutely sickening. Not only has Norway done absolutely nothing to the UK for war to even be considered, it hasn’t even done anything good or bad to the UK for about seven months! We are basically crushing a small buzzling nation attempting to find its feet again!

I know I'm probably in the sheer minority here, and will probably get a fair amount of flames in the subsequent comments. But can I just say that I actually support PEACE. I believe that the US War was justified, and that every other war was somehow justified, but this in my opinion, simply isn't.

Operation Valhalla (nicknamed Operation Failhalla by the defensive forces) was a failed operation from PEACE GC, with the intention of "liberating" Norway from the Swedish and Finnish oppressors, as well as releasing them from the grip of EDEN.

As a part of the American offensive to retrieve it's regions, Norway blocked Russia, activating it's MPPs, so that USA could keep up their offensive. At some point, Russia managed to attack Norway before Norway could open another blocking war. This lead to Trondelag and Svalbard & Jan Mayen being occupied by Russia, which in turn started an operation by EDEN to retrieve these regions, and remove the Russian MPPs and the war with Norway.

This was to be accomplished by annexing Norway completely into Finland, before releasing it again. This would cancel the war with Russia, and end their MPPs, at a great cost, that also would secure the Norwegian future.
The Operation

The plan was to convince the Norwegian people and people in general, that this annexation was performed against the will of Norway. In addition, RWs would be opened, and Russia would attack and "liberate" these Norwegian regions.

The war

Finnish citizen Sossu described the war this way:

Resistance of Trondelag succeeded, and Norway once again exists. Finland had the unpleasant duty to destroy Norway yesterday when it became obvious that the only way to prevent Russia from attacking and annihilating Norway was to conquer Norway and close the MPP😒 against her in the war against Russia.

The whole situation started months ago, in the early days of World War when USA needed a block for Russia to prevent it from attacking. This failed though after too many opponents joined the war and there wasn’t enough blockers for them. But accident had happened already, and Norway launched all major PEACE powers MPP😒. All of Eden can not win all of PEACE, so the only option was to let Norway go and close those MPP😒.
So we put up a peaceful merger so Russia’s invasion could be halted and the lands of Norway returned. After losing the battle of Svalbard & Jan Mayen, Finland attacked from Nord-Norge to Trondelag, which was previously returned to Norway via RW. Then Norway retreated the provinces of Vestlandet and Ostlandet while Sweden took Nord-Norge and blocked Russia by attacking Svalbard & Jan Mayen. Because the last region can not be retreated, Finland attacked Sorlandet and expected heavy resistance due to Norway’s MPP😒 and a possible PEACE intervention. But there was none and Sorlandet ended with wall over -180,000.
After that a Resistance War was immidiately started in Trondelag, a bottleneck-region which was important to liberate so Russia could not attack any regions beyond. Massive help from allied countries were there, as the number of inhabitants in one of Finland's Q5-hospital region Aland rose from 250 to 1,000. There were also suspictions of PEACE trying to quell the resistance, because they raised the wall at night from -40,000 to +40,000. But everything went well, and the wall was way beyond -130,000 in the last minutes of the battle, and it ended when the wall was nearly -113,000.

Today we saw a very strange thing in the battlefield. It was the decisive battle of PEACE-Operation Valhalla, yet no major fighting happened. PEACE was so scared of our military might, that they didn’t waste any damage to a fight we would win.
PEACE retreated from a battle, denying help from Russia. I wonder how that will influence their eagerness to fight for people who hold on to their original regions.

Eden succeeded in Operation Failhalla, and Norway can finally live in peace. We are sorry that it had to be done this way, but thats what friends do, they sacrifise things for each other. Norway will once more rise to her full strenght, and they do not have to pay a single piece of Gold for this, as the enslaved nations of PEACE Global Community have to pay.

It's true, really! Valhalla is where the dead go after they die in battle. And after that horrible mess, we sent many soldiers to that glorious hall...

We meant to lose all along. You fell into our trap!

The Americans are attacking Wales. We can finally be rid of it!

To his credit, when Lord Malta shouted that he was joking. I wish the same could be said of those who made similar statements to those above.

I think it's probably time that we stopped telling people that we intend to lose our battles. The worst of all possible results is that they could believe us, which would solidify our reputations for being complete idiots.

When my countrymen say things like that, I find them even more annoying then the trolls which have been coming over here and behaving like asses.

Rather then making excuses, we should probably start addressing how and why it is that our military is having some problems, so we can fix those problems in the future.

So I now ask this question in all seriousness. What is the problem? Are we not organized enough, are our troops untrained compared to theirs? Are our citizens not responding in sufficient numbers to the call to war? What is wrong?
