Indonesia Attacked, Remaining Hungarian Regions Threatened, Day 1089

Day 1,089, 16:48 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Although the fighting in recent fronts of interest had subsided in Day 1089, renewed focus on Southeast Asia and Southeast Europe took the places of the Iberian and German fronts. The eUSA embarked on an invasion which has been widely anticipated, while a traditional New World power found itself fighting for its life against two EDEN aggressors in Europe.

Attacking Sumatra may have been easy for the eUSA, but conquering it was not and took a full 30 hours. From there, eUS President Alexander Hamilton has elected to strike Java (circled, 2) instead of Kalimantan (squared, 1)

USA Puts Feet on Native Indonesian Soil
After nearly a month of anticipation, the eUSA opened an assault on eIndonesia’s Sumatra region at 16:42 on Day 1088, a move which benefited real life (RL) Indonesians as the battle opened at 08:42 local and enabled the defenders to fight over the course of a full day, while RL Americans slept in the battle’s early phases. Consequently, after the battle first 24 hours, eIndonesia dominated the tempo throughout and was just one successful mini-battle from securing Sumatra; however, furious eUSA tanking, particularly in the final phase, enabled a remarkable comeback which snared victory for the attackers. Sumatra is the pivotal gateway which the eUSA needed to conquer before advancing further on eIndonesia, and while initial setbacks had humbled a great man, the eventual victory permitted the eUSA to march next on Java at 22:57 on Day 1089 in a battle which is in its earliest stages. Meanwhile, eIndonesia is not taking the loss of Sumatra lying down, as a resistance war (RW) for the region commenced moments after its conquest.

France Removed from Iberian Peninsula
Following a day in which all its attacks were repulsed, eFrance attempted a strike on La Rioja at 15:28 on Day 1088, which was easily blocked. Unfortunately for eFrance, a RW started by the eSpanish for Aragon also commenced late in Day 1088 and fell to the resistance, prying the last of eFrance's Spanish possessions away. While the win in Aragon removed eFrance from the Iberian Peninsula, additional attacks by eFrance across the Pyrenees are quite likely and make the eSpanish victory a mere source of short-term gratification. However, similar tactics by eSpain to liberate the Canary Islands via RW have not been as successful, as eBrazil has put up stronger defense and fewer eSpaniards have moved to Brazil to participate in these campaigns. In all likelihood, eSpain will need to secure Andalucia and then attack the Canary Islands conventionally to regain the islands which link Europe to South America.

Over the course of Day 1089, eHungary went from fighting for its
border regions (above), to fighting for its survival (below)

Phoenix Power’s Remaining Regions Under Attack
eCroatia opened an invasion of eHungary by attacking Southern Great Plain at 08:25 on Day 1088, following it with an 13:25 strike against Southern Transdanubia, which eCroatia both conquered. Combined with eRomania’s successful conquest of Northern Great Plain and Northern Hungary between Days 1088-1089, and eHungary’s remaining regions were put in jeopardy by a three-pronged eCroat attack on Day 1089 at Western Transdanubia (09:34), Central Transdanubia (11:54), and the eHungarian capital of Central Hungary (13:06). eHungary is winning only in its capital, suggesting that it could be wiped off the map if eCroatia wins in the other two fronts and gradually wears down the Phoenix power in the days ahead. Meanwhile, attempts to retake Northern Great Plain and Southern Great Plain via resistance war (RW) have been ineffective, indicating that eHungary will be hard-pressed to regain its regions; nevertheless, it is highly unlikely that eHungary will be erased from the map as they will not easily let their capital region fall-- though its loss would undoubtedly rank among the most epic battles in recent eRepublik history.

A Look Into the Future
Despite the hype generated in an eUSA strike on eIndonesia, only success will actually make this front noteworthy; as with other fronts, the “fact of” of these attacks will become less interesting if the eUSA is unable to make any real progress beyond its initial gains in Sumatra. While eHungary is unlikely to lose all its battles against eCroatia, the fact that the world’s former greatest power is now fighting for its life is worth noting. Even if eHungary does survive into Day 1090, its weakened state would make eRomanian or eCroat attacks easier to execute and more likely to succeed. Thinking hypothetically as an unbiased observer, this could signal the final deathblow to Phoenix if eHungary were to fall-- no matter how unlikely it may be. The absence of an adversary could then give way to incessant bickering among EDEN which may result in its own demise. From there, it remains to be seen what would become of the New World’s powers.

God Bless America,
