EPIC's CP Primary Concludes! - May 5th

Day 1,624, 16:49 Published in Canada Canada by Nosyt

And thus we come to an end of another successful EPIC primary. The EPIC has been been selecting our presidential candidates (unfortunately with a certain degree of inconsistency) by using an instant run-off method since day 955 of erepublik. This method involves us sending a private message to every party member, which contains instructions on where and how to cast their vote, though instead of voting for a single candidate, they're asked to list the candidates in order of preference. If a single candidate cannot receive over 50% of the first preference votes, the candidate with the least amount of first preference votes is eliminated, and are replaced with the second preference votes. This process continues until a single candidate attains a majority.

This month we had a great turnout of 70 votes cast, and although the election primary itself was predictable, and thus perhaps not as exiting previous months, commentary was still positive, and everything went as planned. In any case, as you've all probably guessed, Sperry gained a majority vote (71😵 in the first round/preferences, thus eliminating the need to move on to a second round. In second place came Connor Macleod, with 17% of the vote, followed by Octavian_F with about 12%. (There were 0 abstentions). Here's a charming visual:

Since we didn't get a chance to go into round 2 or three, I'll share the results of member's second and third preferences, just for fun.

What the results tell me, is that EPIC members would prefer Connor over Octavian, and Sperry overall. Again, not surprising, but there you have it. You can see the spreadsheet where responses were recorded here:

There was nothing too concerning in the commentary section, primarily just positive feedback or something semi-lulzy. Earlier I had mentioned that the EPIC primaries aren't always consistent, which is possibly because we've always considered it the responsibility of the Party President to conduct (or at least delegate the responsibility) the primaries. This month, Sperry never asked me to do the primaries. I just did them because I was well aware that he had no intention to go near the process, being a candidate himself. This leads me to the conclusion that, maybe it's best that instead of putting all the weight of the primaries on the Party President, we as a party should rely more on individuals willing to lend a hand, so that this tradition will be consistently stable.

To conclude, congratulations and good luck goes out to Sperry, you've earned EPIC's blessing. I'd like to thank Kronos Q, Macubex8 and Nicholas Boyce who volunteered their time to help stuff everybody's mailbox. Mass PMs are that much harder when each one has to be unique, so the extra manpower made the job much much easier. To the 70 people who voted, thank you for participating, and we'll see you next month!
