My thoughts on the 6th Party Coalition
Clint Carmel
So today-- in exactly 3 hours, at midnight California time-- I will have been in the game for 60 days. As such, I'll be getting my 2nd Hard Worker medal and another Super Soldier medal. (
Which puts me squarely in the 'novice' camp of players of eRepublik. And that's fine, because now and then there are developments that go right over my head. Being a newbie, I can admit this outright without having to pretend otherwise.
Today, for example, I was reading an article that Scolbert poste😛
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-6th-party-coalition-2238019/1/20#comments
So why a coalition instead of a union or a mini-Unity?
I don't know. We'll see what happens.
=====================================================
This next part is my opinion. It is not endorsed by the AFA, RGR, Unity, WTP, FEDs, or anyone else. I don't even endorse it. It's just opinion. It can't be argued with, unless you say "no, that's not your opinion." Which is silly. This is my opinion.
Some thoughts on the AFA:
Why are the "6th" parties feeling disenfranchised? Because of the AFA/Unity situation. Anyone not siding with the T4 parties is directly (not indirectly) aiding and abetting RGR and the AFA. That's just a fact of current game mechanics. (In my opinion.)
At this point, if AFA truly wants to PTO the eUSA, their best strategy would be to do nothing for a month. Anyone who has studied actual American history understands that the best way to keep all 50 states united is to keep throwing external threats at America. Unity is growing stronger each month because Americans love having someone to call a bad guy. We just do.
Of course, the AFA is not a pure monolith: people splinter from it all the time. Therefore, someone will ignore this advice, and will piss off Unity with a few rogue Immigration deals, and the Unity status-quo will be maintained.
And this 6th party coalition? It can go a few different ways: It might simply end up eventually becoming T5 in the long run. It might dissolve. It might swing towards AFA. Much will depend on whether Ghinculov and the other 6th party presidents join. Either way, it will be interesting to watch.
Personally, I am torn. If AFA wasn't around, I have no doubt I'd be in the 6th party coalition myself. I actually know and like many of the people involved in the 6th parties, and I find many in Unity to be draconian and dismissive, and too suspicious of new people. Except the Feds, who have been uniformly gracious and appreciative, so far as I know.
But I've been to Congress. And once you've seen the eusaforums, especially the Legislative ideas, you understand how malignant the PTO situation is.
So while I emotionally would be happier to see both the PTO and AFO sides removed from the equation, I just know that there really isn't a 3rd option.
Example: An AFA Congressman makes a rogue proposal. You vote 'Yes' if you're AFA and 'NO' if you're a T4 member. Any abstaining helps the Yes side. There's no other options. Any coalition that harms Unity helps the AFA. Maybe it's because I'm new, but I see no way around the cold hard facts of the game mechanics.

Did HS investigate you yet? I sent in my complaint weeks ago. I am going to check up on that tomorrow.
IES and DHS has investigated you and found you to be a Enemy of the State willing to sell America to the highest bidder just so you can be President long enough to be impeached...silly traitor America hates you and wishes only to see you self immolate...http://tinyurl.com/c5tornv
I figured they would have replied long since. After all:
http://eusaforums.com/forum/index.php/topic,24341.msg414705.html#msg414705
And even a cursory glance would show I've had dozens of Serbs on my friends list since day 1. I didn't go Feds/Unity/T4 until your vendetta against me.
You know you've arrived when RGR is first to comment.
'I crunched out the numbers, and the part that puzzles me is why they are having a loose coalition. We're talking potentially 200 or 300 people here, enough so that if they all joined Vox or APP directly, they might actually be the 5th party. If they all joined AMP or USWP, they would permanently knock AFA down to 3rd place.'
I totally agree that the only way to gain influence is to form or join one party to get into the Top 5....
Not sure it's the only way, but it's the main way, in this eCountry at this time. Perhaps in a country not under PTO siege, without unity, there could be more room for dissension.
Yep. Interested to see what happens as a result of this.
We'll see how it goes. It makes for interesting times, at any rate.
Great article Clint. I too have wondered the same thing.
Thanks. It's not really in the same league as "butt-scratching for the win!" but I try. I try.
Well-worded and thoughtful piece, Clint.
Voted!
Thanks, Duncan. I've learned much about writing from you and OneSky.
No. You are wrong. That is not your opinion. learn to opinionize n00b.
lmao jk, am I a good troll? prolly not.
was this a good article? yea sure, could use more P/H tho lol
Okay, let's add some P/H!! P/H!! P/H!!!!
WOO!! now it's perfect! lol
PH! PH! PH!
You have to understand we have no want to merge. This Coalition has nothing to do with merging. What it does have to do with is addressing problems that are common to 6th parties.
and will remain problems within sixth parties unless you merge and gain some clout. just my opinion.
Not necessarily. There are several strategies 6th parties can employ to have a strong political voice without officially merging.
Agreed with t-pix. Merging together could make you a top party. That could actually be something like a revolution that so many 6thers seem to want. A coalition is essentially a support group, which is nice, I guess, but ultimately ineffective.
No there are methods that 6ths can do to get an edge. All in honestly a bunch are a little extreme but if done I am sure it will catch the eye of the T4. But for the T4 parties to tell the 6thers that they "need to get right with the T4". I kinda wish I was the PP of Vox when he was told that...
Eh, when Vox tried to cut deals with multiple top parties and was less than honest about it, I'm not surprised someone got upset. Feds weren't happy about it either, but our response was simply to put them in a spot they HAD TO earn. They didn't want to earn it. What can ya do?
The proposal in SColbert's article was to withhold ATO support, I guess? We'll see how big the impact is there, but I still maintain that they'd be much better off just breaking into the Top 5. Push WTP or USWP out.
Meh...I am really tired of hearing "less than honest" when I was upfront with the correct info (verified by a PP involved - see the last comment I made on my article). All of the "unity" people have played the numbers. Votes are what count, we all know that.
While I agree that the "merging" of the sixth parties would lead to their ascension to a top 5, I don't believe that is the goal. People are in sixth parties for a reason, and not in a Top 5 for the same reason.
Someone should interview the 6PC chairman IMO, to get the answer (and publish it). I have already heard that discussions are ongoing with the 6PC and the T4.
Wait a min FG, you guys also wants this "honesty" when all in honestly just go and say you want "transparency". Problem is its very hypocritical when the T4 is the same way to every one and their mother. I also personally experienced it. You guys say they have to "earn it" How do you expect them too? What you guys are asking for in return to "earn it" is virtually impossible for them to attain unless they "merge" into a huge party. Which just leads them to do what you want them to do and not them having their own free mind.... yes but it all is an collective effort to kick AFA out. They also do add in huge numbers that sadly nobody in the game can truly count up.
"Earning it" means having 40 voters. That's not out of reach, even for a very small party. Being 'less than honest' means committing 40 voters to more than one party when there aren't more than 40 voters to be had.
And please don't misunderstand here- I do not care. I know what it means to do what you feel you must for the good of your party. I get it. And for the good of my party, 6thers are no longer given priority over perfectly qualified Feds. However, we will always give them an opportunity well within reach. #14 was very much within reach in the Feds. We won 14 seats. They turned it down.
Regardless, I maintain that Vox growing their party is the best solution to their troubles, whether it's through mergers or straight up recruiting. When you have that many good candidates, it's a shame to have to beg and bargain for anything. I've been there.
lol personally me I am not gonna beg, I rather fight. My point is, your asking for 40 votes to run one person and that's our whole party voting system....
Do what you please, but I'll say this, it's impossible to expect 40 votes for one person. Its downright wrong.
You say it costs you 40 votes per person, but that is only because you have a huge party. No matter what everybody is not going to get it. The mind set being used is plain selfish.... When I ran USMJ with Jude, IDC how many people in my party wanted congress, I made sure half of the possible seats we had went to 6th party members.
Its unfortunate how things have become in this country. reason why I want no part of it anymore....
So because 6th parties have less support, they should be handed a disproportionate number of Congressional seats? Makes sense.

Listen to GingerGuns, she knows about ineffectiveness, she was a bad president afterall.
2-4 seats is not much... 1 seat yeah not so much. 2 seats is like perfect TBH, and 2 seats is not hard to give up, especially when you have like what 14 seats? 14 seats is a lot in todays congress too.
So really what you're looking for is charity? and the worst part, is that you're going door to door to get it from everyone. Regardless of what you've gotten at the previous house, you still move on down the street to see what other sucker you can take advantage of.
The top 4 have something you want, something you can attain on your own with a little effort, but you don't want to put in that effort out of some spite for the system, because fuck the establishment, right?
The only way to change the establishment is from within. First, you must become the establishment.
Your idea is flawed. You expect a 6th to grow to a 5th.. yeah please tell me how. In todays political module, it HEAVILY favors top 5 parties. If the ground we had to make up was 100 people then fine we can work with that... but you expect us to make a ground of what 200-400 people. Flat out impossible in todays system, so don't give me that crap of you can grow... its not likely it is going to happen. the fact you call it "charity" TP is unfortunate. Like I said when I ran USMJ with Jude. if we had 8 seats, 4 were USMJ and 4 were 6th party members. Now I don't expect a 50% outcome but 2 seats is NOT that much to give. When did Feds and WTP become so damn selfish? When I recruited for the Feds, I seriously dreamed that when they hit Number 1 they would stay to who they are and be that first number 1 party that gave. Now its only take. once you got number 1. Like I said 2 seats is not a lot out of 14. We will still vote Fed in the case we got seats...
Also I am only fighting not cuz I care that much, I give no shits about it. I am probs the only guy within the coalition that I know that can fight for it other then JD and Colbert lol.
BTW sorry for the shitty ungrammatical response. I made a legit one before its just my jobs internet derped on me while posting it and I forgot to copy the post. So I had to retype it.....
It's just a question of math. There are 2,200 voters in eUSA and 55 seats. That comes out to about 40 people per Congress seat.
The game has pretty much ALWAYS favored the top 5. It's really nothing new.
As far as I can see, the fundamentals on how to grow a party haven't changed. You have to focus all of your energy into new players, which is exactly how it was back in the day. You could also merge, but that method has proven to be less successful over time.
Anyway, the Feds did win 14 seats. 1 of those was a 6th party. 2 of them could've easily been 6th parties (maybe more), but the Albanians were the only ones that understood what we were doing/were willing to support their candidate. Literally no other 6th partier even TRIED to run with us when they heard they would have to actually vote.
That says less about us and more about 6ths, I'd say.
I don't HAVE to understand anything except which end of the toothbrush goes in my mouth. But I hear ya: you don't want to merge.
I'd like to know what the problems are that are common to 6th parties. Could you make a post or write an article addressing that?
You need an ending to the article. It`s too abrupt. A conclusion of some sort, or something. Boobs, cats, whatever 😉
cats with boobs?
I'm not posting a picture of a WTP figurehead person here. You want to look at Hale26, you ask him to post his own picture.

Clint, nice article and well put.
Keep up the good work man!
Thanks. And see my comment to Scolbert above: what, in your opinion, are the problems common to 6th parties that need to be addressed?
V. Nice Work. I do apologize for our resident hater(rgr). I hope he does not cause you to quit writing.
lol, 60 days and already in congress, hmmmmm, that's seems a bit queer to me.
