As if a fantasy roleplay Congress "matters" or is "leadership" when they have produced no articles of their own and have no solutions. The mock congress is a big faux for people who want to seem important. In fact the real Congresses the past few months have already been useless anyway

Mock Congress serves two purposes. Give people who want something to do something to do and it also could be a good experience for someone who's never actually been in congress to try it out. The whole experience depends upon if people take it seriously or as a joke.

As to producing articles, what are they to produce? Eh, we're wiped. Check back tomorrow. Or maybe, D'oh we need a region so we can have real congress next month. 😛

There is no solution at the moment. We knew the wipe was coming. If you didn't then you really are a n00b. The wipe was discussed way back when IBB started the ball rolling when we attacked the UK. We figured Spain would wipe us for a couple weeks, get bored, we'd make a deal and they'd leave. (Which is what would have happened, it was in the process.) Then this Sirius alliance started up with the US frothing at the bit to come at us. Diplomacy was tried and failed. We made every attempt to join Sirius but were rebuffed. So we became pro Asteria. Then the US went ape shit claiming that we were out to destroy them and they had every right to wipe us. Two months later guess what? They wiped us.

Don't know about you but I need a break. I've spent way to much RL money. It was fun and we drug it out as long as we could. Now it comes down to when Asteria gets around to teaching the US a lesson about picking on their new friends. Believe me it's coming, they just have to straighten things out in their neighborhood before the visit ours.

I was commenting on the lack of media coming out on front page during slow times... I fail to see how a mock congress is going to keep address that situation.

I fail to see the big deal. Government can't fix the current situation through diplomacy, we have no more EB's to spend (at least I don't), we will start RW's to harass the US as needed and everyone is taking a breather. In the meantime some people want to play around on a sub-board created on the forum for people to do just that. I registered primarily to observe. If it takes off and people actually post some stuff I would be happy to post my input and suggestions to help out.

No, it's not a big deal but it doesn't solve anything either. In a nutshell, it's an elitist attempt to arrive at a solution which does not exist.

There was already a place on the forums for everyone to discuss political issues if that's what you wanted to do. Instead a small group has hived itself off from the rest, has done and likely will continue to do nothing (or at least nothing of consequence) all while basking in a smug glow of superiority which is not even remotely deserved.

You are the same as everyone else. Your say, including whether I have the right to my opinion, has no extra weight. You have not been elected to your position, merely self-appointed. (In my opinion that is an actual problem because I believe that insomuch as this game has a democracy, our society should be democratic and not ruled by decree.)

In any case, in order for you to have any legitimacy then you need public support so my opinion does, in fact, matter, whether you support my right to it or not.

I actually think you've been a good Congressman these past few months, Pickle - you're merely not a Congressman anymore. You're just like anyone else. So if you want to lead, lead - you don't need the title of "Mock Congressman" in order to do so nor will your (no doubt inevitable) leadership be derived from this title.

I'll leave you with one last thought: if the idea of a mock Congress is to help Canada but the idea of it is clearly a divisive one, is it worth the damage done when it's actually accomplished so little?

Just because there is no other solution doesn't make anything a good idea. That line of rhetoric is similar to saying that there must be a god because you can't prove there isn't one.

Besides, I have suggested a better alternative to a mock Congress: not having one. We should be including everyone who wants to participate in discussions. This can be done in the existing public discussion area of the forum's Legislative Branch section.

You know the expression "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The forums themselves, while deserted, aren't broken. It's a ghost town but one that has places for anyone to write comments and not just an elite few. Walling off a section for discussion among a small group does not help foster ideas and could potentially drive people away.

All that being said, the onus isn't even on me to suggest better solutions (done) but for people supporting the mock Congress to provide compelling reasons for its existence. I have been convinced of none. Having come into existence, the mock Congress should then at least display its usefulness, the value it adds. This has not happened.

I can't be certain, but I think that the Mock Congress is a thumb to the nose directed towards our occupiers. We still work - albeit, at lower production levels. We still get to press the fight button if we want. We have a virtual president and a virtual-virtual-congress. So, really, in the grand scheme of things, all we've really done there is add one layer of make believe to the virtual congress.

The intended political system is a joke by design. Its easy to manipulate and very limited in scope. In all honestly, its little more than a medal, a few gold, and some XP. Well, that and an exercise in ego-masturbation for the avatars who truly believe they've accomplished greatness by getting selected by the party presidents to earn the medal.

The deaf ears of leadership is what caused the previous large decline in population during a wipe. So much for this one being different.

I have no problem finding old articles. I was looking for new articles.. My point being that a week ago when lots of war going on there were many articles being written, from those in the government and those who want to be president.

Now during a slow war period the articles have slowed down. I realize without many battles and drama it becomes more challenging to produce quality articles but I still believe that it should take more than 7 votes to get onto the first page. And that even if there is nothing new to report the current government can write the odd article to help encourage player retention... just my opinion 🙂

The Mock Congress you claim to dislike would be the perfect place to state that suggestion. It may not be "real" but the "leadership" you question is there and very much involved.

I never said I dislike the Mock Congress, actually think it could be a productive way of keeping those members of congress active in making decisions on best interests of Canada while we endure this wipe. Nor did I question the commitment or quality of our current leadership beyond the scope of current media activity level.

I also specifically mentioned those aspiring to be leaders not just those currently in charge.

I merely suggesting that during slow times that media output is just as important as it is during times of active war. Be it the current government or those who aspire to become the next government.

There are six members of the mock Congress, a self-appointed group of people who felt that they needed a private section of the forums in order to discuss things by themselves (perhaps this is necessary to show leadership).

Its members does not include a single member of the Executive (you know, our actual government leadership) though it does have a former CP, a PP and a few MU leaders, while fully one third of its members have not written more than four comments each.

I'm failing to see anything real there, much less leadership.

I've yet to see anyone actually complain that we haven't gotten our country back yet. Most of us understand the mechanics and the situation - there's no point (well, other than production bonuses) to push to regain our territories too early.

That said we now have two groups of people who claim to be our leaders. One is led by Rylde - who was actually elected using in-game mechanics to his position. Pointing out that we haven't heard from him in a week and his team not much more often isn't bitching, it is a legitimate complaint. Even if we can't do anything, our President should at least be informing those who need reassurance that there is a plan in place and directing those that need it as to what they should be doing.

As for the second group, our "Mock Congress", the only difference between them and everyone else is a delusion of grandeur. Of course there's no magic solution to our current predicament - nobody claimed there was one. And until we actually have a Congress in-game, there is no point in having a fake one on the forums. It's not bitching to point out its uselessness, that's just stating the obvious. Your opinion isn't the only one that's legitimate: opposition is as well.

Seriously though, most here understand there are very limited options to dealing with the wipe until the muricans grow a pair of ball and attack someone of similar military strength. In the mean time we wait, but that does not mean that I cannot voice an opinion about how things are handled while we play the waiting game.
