The Magic Key... in France

Day 1,205, 12:18 Published in United Kingdom France by Robert Laforge

This article is based on my first french article.

Pour mes lecteurs français, cet article est la traduction du premier numéro de mon journal!

Hello dear UK fellow,

My name is Robert Laforge and I am French reporter. My idea with this newspaper is quite simple. It’s about sharing the players experience, develop new ideas and new tools to evolve our little world. Not much new actually. It’s something you probably do each day when you connect yourself to your national forum. But what about the rest of the world? How does it work? The mystery remains, doesn’t it?

I recently found a very rare device called the Magic Key. It allows me to open the door of any community in the world. The item works only with one condition, I offer the same information amount that I receive. Let me tell you about my experience in France and allow me to open yours.
In this eWorld, I am young and inexperienced. That’s why I will only speak about what I know, such as my first step in eRepublik. I will tell you about how a young player like me is welcome in France on eRepublik, on the French forum and the means at his disposal to learn and to become part of the community. I will also provide a French Solidarity Ministry member's interview.

That’s it! I’m here in front of this huge door (well, it kind of depends on the country perspective 😁). I’m stressed out and my hands are shaking. But here I am, trying my item for the first time. I gently put my key in the lock. Ejected in this new world, feeling like a noob… I first discovered the basic presentation: the battle list with the battle of the day, the newspaper section, and this strange thing on my right which looks like a pale copy of Facebook.

Anyway, I finally found my mail box and surprise!!! I already have two messages: one from the president himself and one from the solidarity minister. The one I received at that time was longer than now, so I do not know its current content. But it directs the player on articles made by the minister to help new players. The president’s message is short, graphically quite nice looking and written on a formal ton. At the end, a link…

Now I get it. I arrive on the forum’s welcome page. It’s graphically very nice, a touch of humor from time to time and I finally understand eRepublik bases. Principles and basics actions are very well explained. I particularly liked the way it presents the different modules in eRepublik as Press, Economy, Military and Politics. There is some repetition and some outdated links and informations, but I remember this welcome message as the first thing I read on eRep. Of course it was not perfect, but the humour and the work realised made me want to stay.

After reading this, I also realize that there is a world behind the world : the community. At first sight, the forum looks quite small and simple. There is a "Foreign Affair" section but it's the only thing which doesn't looks interesting for a new French player like me. The rest is really accessible for a noob. A welcome message made me realized that it’s more complex than it looks. The Forum will be entirely visible once I register and post my first post. It was made to simplify access to information’s that really matters to any newcomer.

As I don’t know anything yet, the thing that looks the most interesting to me is the school. It looks more like a campus once I enter but it’s quite nice. After reading a couple of things on how the school works and the few rules to follow to avoid too much mistake at first (do not fight, keep your wellness high, etc…). I continue my visit through university section, Prep School, Business school and Military school. You don’t have all things at once. You can progress through your reading as you like. The posts are shorts and you have the impression to progress step by step. Plus, the teachers are really available to answer any question.

The thing I really liked is the red ligne they propose at any new player to follow. First you learn the basics, then they also highly recommend to present yourself to the other players. They also propose different way to integrate the community. In france, the Role Play allows you to get adopt by eParents who can sometimes teach their eBaby how to walk.

The adventure does not stop there. Now, it’s decided, I will start to communicate with virtual human beings. I begin with my presentation. The welcome is always warm. Each submission receives an average of 10 to 15 responses. The eFrench community warmth felt at this moment confirmed that I am not mistaken, there is some good people here (especially Nya, my tranlator ). I just had to find a way to meet them. Three solutions: get adopted by a efamily, be pervert ... I mean get into a party or do your military service. Each solution has its advantages and disadvantages.

The efamily and political parties welcome their new members with open arms. But once you’re adopted, contacts are often limited to the RP and the integration of the player may take some time. There is no real agreement between parents and children and no way to find yourself involved in projects. The eFamily however, allow a first contact with experienced players and if you know how to pull the string, it’s can be very valuable.

Party can offer important quantity of projects you can be involved in. If the player begins to participate in the debate and give his opinion, the integration is fast. But the political module in eRepublik is complex and often restricts the young player. The projects presented need sometimes experience that you can obtain only with time. Patience is the key, even if the player has potential.

Finally, the military service. Excellent well established institution, the army teaches players to sublime the art of war. Solidarity is established from the outset. Players are supervised, interact and have a common goal. However, the SM (Military Service) is a victim of its success. Places are expensive and require a strength and an involment minimum. You also have to speak French 😁.

To conclude, I think our organization to welcome players in the forum is very good. But it’s not as well organizeed IG and the cooperation between the government and the school teachers would be a very good thing to improve our new players' welcoming. I hope this article will inspire you for your country.

Now, I will try to make the same kind of article on your country if you allow me to. If you have question or if you need some precisions, I will be glad to answer it.

Best French regards
