[CP] Decisions, Readying for Battle and more.....

A CP has many decisions to make through their term in office (ok, not quite as many as in the old eRep
😛). Probably the biggest decision for a country in our situation is whether to fight on or to try and strike a deal with our oppressor.
I have been discussing this topic with a group of people representing congress, cabinet and our MU's. The majority opinion is that we should fight on.
The basic details of the proposed treaty are as follows:
NAP
- NAP between Spain and Canada
Regions
- Spain holds 4 regions or 3 regions + a cash security bond (to be held by an agreed third party for the duration of the NAP. This would be returned to eCan at the end if we don't break the NAP or given to Spain if we do break it)
The duration and any review periods etc. would need to be worked out but that is the guts of the deal.
What I'd like to know is where Canada stands on the topic. I'll list the pros and cons of both options as I see them

- Ability to focus our efforts on helping our allies

- Can be seen as a surrender
- Allows Spain to focus more effort elsewhere
Fight On
Pros
- Continue to be a drain on Spain
- Possibility that they will eventually grow tired of us or that the alliance balance will shift and they'll be forced out
Cons
- Lack of bonuses
- Continued occupation
- Damage tied up in our battles and not as effective in helping our allies
- Struggle to have a congress each month
- Harder to grow population

We currently have another RW up in Yukon but Spain will soon be directly attacking us through their NE. make sure you strap yourself in and get ready for the fight of your life.

Think about this. We may have to keep going through the current cycle of wipes for months and months before the eWorld sees any alliance shifts. This is the best deal we have ever been offered from Spain and could be the best we will ever be offered.

This could be the best offer we'll get from eSpain, and it is inferior to alternative outcomes where we reclaim our country on our own or with the help of our allies or by taking advantage of eSpain's misfortune in the future.

Positive Outlook: Spain is stretched thin so if they keep fighting on multiple fronts we can win back eCanada, and force them to airstrike us if they really want back in....which would be very vengeful of them...
Negative Outlook: We win one lose one, win one lose one. Over and over, wasting our damage and hurting our allies in turn, while never getting a better offer from them again. Viscous cycle of occupation with no real hope of an end.

This is a war game, we are supposed to have someone to fight. I remember when people were tired of fighting eUK. eSpain is someone new AND they are more challenging. They are forcing us to become a better ally and work on our international relationships. eSpain is making us BETTER!!!

Not necessarily. The terms of a "surrender" may become MORE beneficial if we can prove to eSpain that we can be a thorn in their side...Eventually, they'll want nothing to do with us and offer a sweet deal to get us off their case (like we'd take it anyway)
We don't have anyone else to fight anyway.

I agree with the peace treaty if Spain will keep the following regions: Asturia, Castillia, Catalunya and Extremadura.
Otherwise, let's fight. Some bonuses cannot compensate the formal surrender.

Why do I get the impression that if we go from now until, oh I don't know - let's say September, without a Congress lots of these "Fight On!"s would sing a different tune if Spain offered us 8 regions back.
I generally love war more than the next guy but I'm also a pragmatist. 8 regions, no foreign oversight on our MPP stack, no monthly stipend. We should seriously consider it.

IMO, congress has denigrated to gold farming. Other than changing taxes, the limitations to game mechanics posed by a lack of congress are minimal. We lose our accountability function for the CP, we just have to make sure we elect good CPs, like Homer.
I don't disagree about the overall uselessness of Congress, but having the ability to use the mechanics is fairly important.
So long as the CP can approve/propose MPPs, that's about all the game mechanics we need. Taxes need no tinkering (it's actually nice when the repetitive tax and minimum wage proposals are no longer an issue).
Main thing would be MU funding, which we need Congress for to make treasury transfers. On the bright side, the treasury can't get stolen so it will just sit there until Congress returns and treasury transfers resume. We don't have enough for regularly transfers anyhow, so being forced so save up for a month or two isn't the worst outcome either.
Deal? This isn't a deal. This is an insult from a former ally. Let spain waste damage. Gives us something to do.

I think the fight for congress every month is fun, gives me something to look forward to. Not to mention the mad scramble Spain does every month trying (and failing) to exert it's dominance over 3 nations who combined don't make one third the size of Spain.

Whenever a deal is made with a country like Spain, it does not mean that they want peace and a good relation, it is just that they don't want you around when they bully another country.
In this case Spain and Poland want to focus all their energies on Argentina and teach her a lesson for coming to the aid of Ireland and Turkey somehow...
So deal with Spain means they beat Argentina, and when they are done, they come back to beat us again.

Great point. Agreeing to this deal EXPANDS their influence over us and it increases the extent of their victory.
A tempting offer, but we should fight. When we look back on this era, it will define who we are as a nation. I would rather we be remembered as a nation who never gives up, even when facing impossible odds.
How about this pro!!! We have worthless territory, why do we need sooooooo much fish? This is a big depreciation from the demands made by eSpain a while ago, what I can tell is they are trying to postpone our RW until they are done with South America which really may seem like a good time to strike, but at the same time, eCanada is poor... we're in an alliance where we're 'considered equal' (the MU I was in went from 480 food and Q7 weapons a day to just recently Q6, and soldiers MUST work in a slave pit!!) but we're not! we have no eco... fighting just as hard on a broken leg.. Our economy is in the dumps and time to recoup would be helpful in future wars. If we shoot down the offer we anger eSpain more, and ensure eCanada as a high profile target for more foreseeable future. Economy though... is ignored soooo much I find, in this game..
Good luck finding an MU where you'd receive good supplies without working in slave pits. How do you think tanks are produced? Did you expect people to keep footing the bill to pay for your tanks every week?
Ha, yeah probably.. it was nice ^ ^ I didn't know it wasn't the norm, it went from super useful (As I wasn't operating at a loss, because I could sell my own products to pay for moving to battlegrounds) to needing to take a $7.5 pay decrease, (And you must do the DO the day before) for less quality weapons all the while fighting with little to no territory to sell products and make money to move off and fight in damn Estonia 😛
I don't know how long the NAP is for but -3 territories, and time sounds like the better deal to restore the economy if that was an issue eCanada wanted to address.
When we are wiped, raw is 33% cheaper, which is equivalent to a 50% bonus. Wiped territory is DEFINITELY not worthless. This is a game, the value perceptions of RL don't apply.
Which MU were you in? Sounds like you may have had a sweetheart deal regardless of country bonuses, particularly if working in a slave pit was optional.
When we are completely whiped raw is automatically set to 33% less? I think it depends on how much people put it for in the market... I was in LibertyCA, It's a shame though. people never considered the expenses of moving constantly.. and most people in the MU went bankrupt causing Homer's: help out fellow eCanadians by donating article.
Liberty was a good example of an MU relying almost entirely on someone's RL money to fund it. That is never going to be a sustainable model

In a direct war we fight all of TWO and have no chance. In an RW we fight just Spain. We can only win the RW's when Spain has other priorities. Only an inept CP would of NE'd Spain when we knew they could not NE us for 7 days or the war with the Argies got closed. Even during this window of opportunity our priorities were with allies like you. So shut the fuck up.
Spain was fighting in 4 RW's (Portugal, Argentina, Canada and Venezuela) and then directly against Argentina, was the best time for Canada to regain their regions because Spain could not fight in many battles (in fact they lost in all was a clear example of that) now Spain is free to fight Canada and to top them gained the initiative. I call that FAIL
We did regain regions through RW's. We were completely wiped at most two weeks ago. We cannot win a direct war with Spain with every 2 clicker in TWO a mouse click away.. We also gave everything we had to the airstrike on the UK, and fought for Sweden and Finland in their important battles. RW wins count exactly the same as direct war wins.
I don't see any CP medals in your resume Mr Brelli. Is that because you are a coward or too inept to run for CP? Of course not. All we would have done by NEing early would be to open the door to an earlier wipe and tied up our resources so we wouldn't have been able to help our allies, including CUA.
Despite no NE being declared, we were back on the map with four regions. Your comment suggests this is a bad thing? eSpain can only attack us when we are at war. We get to keep what we RW back when we are at peace. I think that we shouldn't have NE'd eSpain until their NE went through. Four of their congressmen voted against NE eCan. There is division in their ranks as well.
Also, the only way to close a war is to negotiate peace, which we have had no luck at doing, or by wiping eSpain, which we have had no luck at doing. CP Homer did the right thing, and it was a damage drain on the other battle fronts that you bring up Christian.
