The guide of the ideal eEmperor

In the cyber world of erepublik, the political system is limited only to that of a semi - elective parliament where much of the key powers lay in the President who has the ultimate ability to make radical decisions without consent of Congress. However Congress can remove such a leader and can decide on new laws and agreements.

This limited aspect of the game makes the prospect of an Empire more and more unlikely, especially with the challenge of factionalism within the country as a result of the party system and the congress system.. In order to achieve the grand status of an Empire and to make it durable, the nation must first rid itself of factionalism and division so that it can relieve co-operation and support from the whole population.

This can be viewed as impossible as many radical groups in eGreece, such as the LSP view themselves as cyber communists getting ready to fulfill a utopian dream of equality and peace. Such qualities are impossible in erepublik due to the game structure. There are no Proletariat or Bourgeois within the game. There are just citizens, most of whom are dictated by the elite who holds power, experience and influence. Many ordinary citizens have risen to these ranks through effort so really this defeats the whole purpose of "far left" parties who talk about peace and equality openly whilst forgetting this is a game and not the real world.

The only other possible thing these "Marxists" can alter if not the social variable (which in erepublik is impossible), are to a very lesser degree some of the economic variables through playing around with the tax system. That's what all parties are limited to and therefore if they do not support the the ruling government especially in times of war and national emergency, and even take the radical decision of fighting alongside the enemy, they are traitors to the nation in which they serve and must be ruthlessly crushed, humiliated and embarrassed through the media and through suspension from the countries national forum. They must be forced into exile.

However the challenging part in eliminating these factions are their popularity. The government in order to destroy these threats must try and destroy their credibility by accusing them of scandals, theft anything in order to remove them to make them lose their supporters, (it will be challenging as they will try to defend themselves through hostility to the government). The ring leaders of these groups must only be the ones blamed for everything and be the "scape-goats". Even abusing the powers of the administrators of erepublik can be seen as necessary as only once when all factions and internal divisions are removed, then the government can continue with building the ideal conditions suitable for an Empire. For without this to be done a war effort and an attempt to expand the nation into a new epoch will not receive the full level of cooperation needed in order to achieve a grand empire. If possible get parties to merge themselves with your government but take measures to be sure they do not betray you, such as access over their forums.

Then arises new challenges. The people who are in government. It must be insured that the power of the President or future Emperor is unchallenged by his congress but at the same time, this President is the one ideal charismatic leader who has all the gifts and talents to rule a country as stated in Plato's famous book The Republic. Such a leader is hard to find, as few leaders put the country above themselves despite what they say. It is under these circumstances essential that the executive of the country is a renowned, charismatic leader with the countries best interests at heart. It will be a hard task to find this leader but such a leader does exist.

However this "leader" will need to suppress the voices of Congress either through getting their popular patriotic support (as they will understand that it his duty to make the country great) or through black mail that they will be highly discredited in the media if they do not support the will of the President. The cabinet must only be the most highly trusted, reliable and talented assistants of this leader who like him have the countries best interests at heart. Trust must be prioritised over talent as a leak of information or a back stabbing can have unprecedented consequences over the unity of the country. Intensive propaganda must also be made to ensure the absolute loyalty of the people. Anyone who undermines the authority of the leader must be alienated, ridiculed and forced into exile through humiliation.

It will take many months before total unity can be achieved, and it will be a further challenge with the arrival of new players. However when total unity is achieved then, the nation must prepare itself for an epoch of war, in which it will expand itself for essential resources. However before a country can do this, it must first obtain seizable strength in economic, military and population factors. Greece is a fine candidate for such a start to an e Empire.

Now the hot area. Mutual protection pacts. These pacts have become the back bone of defence for many countries on erepublik and are the sole reason why Greece has not crushed Turkey yet. Assuming however that full unity and cooperation has been achieved then the country must wait in the shadows playing world politics in a defensive stance and making itself important powerful allies until a global war erupts. In this case the countries interests are put above it's allies and it will exploit the situation by attacking a nation using the best of the following five factors:

1) Has a high useful resource

2) Has a lower amount of MPPs then you

3) Is weak and vulnerable

4) It's geographic position

5) Its relationships with your nation (both real life and in game)

An attack must only be made with a guarantee of victory. In Greece's case the options are Israel, Turkey, Bulgaria and Italy and a calculation must be made to which is the best to attack considering the five factors. Of course the ultimate choice is the rulers. Victory must be ensured however in order to prolong the life of the regime and to ensure glory to the nation so that it may rise to the status of Empire. It is ideal if you can keep the enemy divided and misinformed through the use of lies, pretexts, religion, politics, anything... It proved useful during the Spanish invasion of France.

After you have been victorious and have beaten and crushed the enemy nation, you must develop a pretext for why you destroyed them, grant concessions to the normal enemy citizens and alienate and attack to the enemy leaders by blaming them for the faults of defeat. It is important that you keep the occupied population fighting against one another by favouring different occupied factions (parties) and offering them power and then telling them lies of plots, insults etc... In erepublik this is hard to achieve as people don't suffer but it is still do-able if done to an intensive scale.

After this the President must use the victory for nationalistic reasons to glorify the nation but at the same time avoid seeming more powerful then the occupied power to avoid resistance. They must coronate themselves Emperor and use the power they have achieved for the further expansion of the nation.

Unfortunately there will undoubtedly came a time when such an Emperor becomes greedy and is perceived as a criminal rather than a hero in which case they must be replaced by a leader of equal talents. The Empire must constantly expand to survive and must raid and pillage the most out of other competing nations...
