In the summer of 2009, a conflict generally known as World War III broke out, with our country being most familiar with the invasion of North America. Prior to that, due to a host of old conflicts, the United States had opened up enemy MPPs on all of our fronts, and in July we suffered the consequences of that. Following the betrayal of the United Kingdom to the PEACE Global Community and the essential surrender of Japan to Indonesia, and through a series of complicated region swaps, the United States and Canada faced invasion from the United Kingdom, France, Portugal, Indonesia, Hungary, Iran, and Russia. Our southern border with Mexico remained secure until later on in the war when Mexico betrayed us and retreated its regions to Colombia, allowing that nation to assault us in the south.

Russia attacked Alaska first, on July 14th. They conquered half a dozen states before our friends in North Korea and Norway managed to block them with attacks, allowing us to take back several states. Then Indonesia invaded, giving Russia back its initiative. The Russians attacked the fortress state of Kansas, which had a Q5 hospital and defense system, and throughout August Russia and her PEACE allies conquered our fortresses and high-population areas like California and New Jersey, coming to dominate the entirety of North America except for Florida. We offered a peace treaty, but Russia--greedy for more GOLD tribute and wanting to hold dominion over more of our states--declined the treaty. Portugal signed and was removed from the war; the president of Indonesia was banned and unable to attack us, allowing them to be rolled back. Under President Emerick's leadership we managed to reclaim several states, but Colombia then interfered and once more we were beaten back from the gains we made in the south and west, though mostly held against Russia. We waited in Florida for an attack that never game, and the Russian president at the time--"Tsar" parter--was claimed have said he would sell his RL home to take Florida. However, the Colombian president forgot to hit the attack button once, and we regained initiative. Under President Gaius Julius, Russia was rolled back and the rest, as they say, was history. Also, parter was also eventually permabanned for system exploits, which was cool.

Now, due to rage of a sitting president, the tables have turned. Russia, the wielder of the greatest resources in the Phoenix Alliance--including the soon-to-be very valuable high titanium regions--has been forced into an incredibly precarious position that threatens to force Phoenix, still reeling from the collapse of the Hungarian Empire, into further disarray before the EDEN, Brolliance, and Sol nations. "OH GOD HANK NO," is the appropriate response from Phoenix heavyweight GLaDOS.

Russia now has a whopping 18 MPPs activated against them, including all of the powerhouses like the United States, Croatia, Romania, Spain, and Poland. Many of these nations have scores to settle with Russia and the members of Phoenix, who for the most part were all part of the PEACE Global Community. The United States, Canada, South Africa, China, Japan, Australia-- so many faced occupation by Russia or her allies, particularly last summer. The favor is being returned now by:
USA
Croatia
Finland
China
Ireland
Japan
Canada
South Africa
Greece
India
Poland
Australia
Israel
Romania
Norway
Spain
Thailand
Malaysia

Russia stands to gain from this too, as President HankScorpio alluded to in a recent article. He says the nation is divided and bored; it is time for some fun. And fun we shall have.

World War: Summer 2010 Edition has now begun, thanks to Russian President HankScorpio. Finally, at long last, this boring state of affairs that we have been left to rot in for months is at an end thanks to this man opening up an appropriate number of MPPs to let an appropriate World War finally begin again.

Russia, we're coming.
