Day 2,245, 08:36 Published in Ireland Croatia by Borgovich

Hello eEarthians!

It took me a while to open up newspaper but finaly I decided to do it! Reasons were many. Starting of my RL duties as college, doing stuff around home etc… And a fact that I am Croatian. To simplify it, my English is not the best one so please correct me and forgive me my mistakes… We all learn, until we all go to final rest. If someone wish to help me with my English, you know how to send personal message, are you? 😉

Since this is my first article, I will try to describe what I would like to have here. Its simple if you, eCitizens, eArmies… ePeople!! If you contribute!

No matter where you live, no matter were you eLive!

SEND me food recipes from your country. I will post recipes once a week, and credit you for that. Share your culture through food! Food is what gives us energy! Food is what connects us all!

So, in that spirit, here you are a traditional recipe from Croatia, Island of Krk
As a first one, I will start with a dessert. We all love sweet stuff… Exept, me… But well… 🙂

PRESNAC

I found already translated recipe on the internet for the first time. Problem with this recipe is that there are many variations and sadly, noone makes it in my house… Enjoy!

Preparation time:
120 min.

Ingredients for dough:
300 g smooth flour (10.58 oz / 0.6614 lb)
1 egg
1 dcl milk
50 g butter (1.764 oz / 0.1102 lb)
30 g sugar (1.058 oz / 0.06613 lb
½ teaspoon salt

Ingredients for filling:
600 g day-old bread (21.16 oz / 1.323 lb)
9 dcl milk
200 g sugar (7.055 oz / 0.4409 lb)
200 g butter (same as above)
200 g rice (yeah)
200 g raisin (check?)
8 eggs
20 g cinnamon (0.7055 oz / 0.04409 lb)

Instructions
Knead smooth dough made of flour, eggs, melted butter, milk, sugar and salt. Shape dough into a ball and let it sit while you prepare the filling. For the filling, separately heat milk, sugar and butter until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly by sitting for 15 minutes.

Cook the rice in salted, boiling water for 10 minutes, strain and allow to cool for 15 minutes, like the milk. Cut the bread into cubes, put in a big bowl, pour in the warm milk, gently flatten and leave for 5 minutes. Mash the soaked bread, add half-cooked rice and raisins, eggs and cinnamon. Mix it all quickly in a uniform mixture.

On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to the size of 35 × 45 cm (13.78 x 17.72 in). Coat a deep 26 x 36 cm (10.24 x 14.17in) pan with baking wax or coat with butter (margarine). Place the rolled dough on the baking sheet so that it goges over the edge of the sheet. Distribute the filling mixture, cover the stuffing with the dough hanging over the edge.

Bake in a heated oven, at 200 °C (392 °F), for 45 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave in oven for another 15 minutes. Remove the presnac from oven, cover with clean kitchen towel and leave to cool for at least 1 hour.

Try it if you wish, you will not regret. I am sorry for using exact measurements and I know… Lbs is not neccesary probably. Just tried to make it easier for everyone!

Cheers!!

P.S. Be gentle, it's my first article... Still learning BBC code 🙂
