I am excited to announce my candidacy for Representative to Congress from Minnesota!
About David Wilson: My eRep birthday is Day 514 of the new world, just over 1 month ago. Despite being so young, I have quickly gained experience (level 14) and knowledge of the game and its mechanics by being active in the forums, media, and IRC outlets. I engage in debate and conversation, taking a strong stand for my initial ideas but listening respectfully to the advice of veterans, and changing my views as necessary. I pride myself in being open-minded and willing to admit when I am wrong or when someone makes a better argument than my own. I hope this is evidenced in the forums and I will continue to improve my ability to compromise. I am a member of the eUS National Guard and am 1 damage from reaching the rank of Sergeant. I have purchased an Organization and manage a foreign Diamond company, which is currently making a fair profit exporting to the eUSA. I have taken the time to learn as much as I can, and will continue to work hard to learn more each and every day.
Economy: The ultimate driving force behind the economy seems to be a combination of national wellness and military activity, as well as foreign trade relations. I will work with Congress, the President, and our foreign diplomats to keep trade open and free with as many nations as possible; most importantly those nations with high Iron and Diamond resources of which the US is in most need. Without low import taxes on these resources our economy would certainly crumble. Likewise, many countries need our resources and we should use that leverage to keep import taxes on Iron and Diamonds low. I believe our trade agreements are just as important as our MPPs and the two should go hand-in-hand. I believe keeping the minimum wage low helps keep money moving among active citizens rather than being sucked into the black hole of our single day visitors. However, I encourage the more successful citizens to adopt and support new and active members to help them start strong despite a low minimum wage. I also encourage employers to appropriately reward their employees for activity and wellness. I have not seen the national budget but will frugally evaluate whether or not the income tax rate is necessary or adequate to effectively supply our military. Our strongest citizens are often those with the most funds available, and our younger citizens need to be able to afford weapons in times of battle as well. I will attempt to evaluate the best way to purchase and distribute arms during these times.
Military: The military is the most important facet of eRepublik whether we like it or not. War Games are essential to our military competitiveness and are also very beneficial to national wellness. I believe the benefits of War Games outweigh the few negative effects on the gift and food industries. It is vital, however, that we keep the costs of War Games as low as possible and use them as a mutual endeavor between allies only, avoiding any potential financial abuse or entry point for enemy attack. I encourage every US citizen to get involved militarily and to fight with every opportunity. We need to support our tanks, as they are not getting it done alone. Maybe one day, you too can be a tank!
Domestic Policy: Domestically I hope to work for greater unity and respect as a nation. We are growing increasingly divided over political endeavors and ideologies that are weakening our focus on global influence. I would also like to encourage more forum activity, and will attempt to lead by example. This increased activity should be tempered with a decrease in trolling and spamming and respect for moderators and thread initiators.
Foreign Policy: I believe foreign policy will be the mainstay of the new administration and the new congress. With the dissolution of ATLANTIS and Romania and Germany’s recent losses, it is more important than ever that we establish strong ties to nations with similar goals and work together utilizing all facets of eRepublik (economic, military, and political) in order to combat the ever-increasing threat of PEACE domination. I believe the freedom from ATLANTIS regulations and the ability to establish MPPs with any nation we deem worthy, will give both the US and their allies a firmer stand in the fight for freedom. We should promptly end any MPPs and close trade with nations who aid unwarranted and hostile PTOs or military offensives and encourage our allies to do likewise.
Transparency: Transparency has been used a lot lately as a campaign platform, I believe it is an important one and think we are making improvements. I understand and want to emphasize that we should not expect to compromise military maneuvers with too much transparency. As for me, I will make my voting records publicly available as often as possible and will hold my colleagues accountable to do the same. I will encourage any congressional debate that does not pose a threat to national security or foreign relations, be made public for citizens to read and comment on in the free press.
Activity: I have devoted several hours a day so far and will continue to devote as much time as responsibility allows. I will attempt to vote on every congressional proposal, plan to get involved on a committee, will brainstorm new proposals of my own, and will be in constant communication with US citizens so as to most effectively represent you.
In Conclusion: As the representative from Minnesota, I will strive to keep an open mind about all issues and legislation proposed, asking important questions and listening intently to arguments from both sides. I will strive to represent you and make your voice be heard in Congress, as well as striving to make Congress’ proceedings heard by you. I will work towards change in diplomacy, trade, and transparency. I will vote frugally with the citizens tax dollars while making sure that our military is well supported. Finally, I will be pragmatic and realistic. Instead of promising Q5 hospitals for every state (like many previous candidates), I will work towards the smaller victories listed that are realistically attainable and will encourage progress towards a stronger eUSA!
