Why do we even have a President?

Day 488, 14:00 Published in USA USA by Al-Iksander
You heard me. Why do we need the presidency? It’s an office that has little power nowadays, and is losing more by the second. Sure, the president can declare war, start battles, make proposals, and move funds. But Congress has to approve of everything that he does, except for starting battles and moving funds, although they themselves can move funds as well.

Obviously, Congress has much more power than the presidency, such as setting tax rates. Whenever there is a Political Takeover (PTO) attempt, the saboteurs go for Congressional seats, not the Presidency. Why? There is far more power to wield in Congress, and the President is easily impeached.

I mean, just look at our current situation. Uncle Sam has survived only by the skin of his teeth. And it would seem that his luck has run out now. So, what were the justifications for the impeachments? The first one, proposed by ProggyPop, was reportedly ‘for the lulz’, which would make sense since it was proposed at the end of that Congressional session, which is fair game for joke proposals of all kinds. But the next one was serious, proposed by Aiden Astrup, and came close to passing. And now, we come to the proposal by Chimichonga Barbosa, which claims that Uncle Sam misspent 431 gold. I will get back to this in a bit, but first I want to speak a bit on the proposal.

There was a retroactive debate, since the aforementioned senator neglected to follow Congressional procedure for presidential impeachment. There is supposed to be a 15-day waiting period between impeachment attempts, and there is supposed to be a debate beforehand. This latter part is usual operating procedure for any Congressional proposal, and usually only the newest members of Congress propose without discussion. To add to this, Chimi was not the one to start the discussion, his fellow Senator Tiacha had to start a discussion on the forums. The justification was that the old thread on impeachment was locked, until Uncle Sam could have his say. So instead of starting a new thread, Chimi went straight ahead and proposed the impeachment. There is something ironic about a Congress trying to impeach a president for not following procedures, and in the process not following procedures themselves.

Now, I am not saying that Uncle Sam is innocent of the charges thrown at him: that he has ignored the counsel of several high-ranking advisors, that he has neglected to keep the eAmerican populace informed, that he mismanaged the war on Mexico. Obviously, he has made mistakes. But one of the charges is based on the 431 gold that I mentioned earlier. Now, you may have heard about this before, from his article, and you may not have. If you have not, here is the story. Romania lost the West Siberian region of Russia to Indonesia. Romania was finally able to counterattack Indonesia, crushing their defense. Here is where the 431 gold comes in: Uncle Sam was approached by ATLANTIS and Romanian diplomats, who requested the aid of three eAmerican tanks who are outside of the military (Benn Dover, Pearlswine, and Tybec), whose moving tickets would be paid for. Uncle Sam would have to provide the Q5 weapons. So he used the 431 gold to purchase enough weapons from Big Brother to help the tanks to fight. Through a concerted ATLANTIS effort, the tanks helped Romania to win the battle.

This is a huge victory for ATLANTIS, for several reasons. It helped Romania regain a high iron region, and showed that the Indonesian war machine is stoppable, which means PEACE GC is not invincible. Obviously, neither side was working completely solo, with both countries having the citizens of allies move to assist them. The morale boost is undeniable, as ATLANTIS has been on an overall losing streak to PEACE GC for a long time.

Unfortunately, Uncle Sam did not consult anyone else when he transferred this money, and it would seem that he outright ignored military commanders. But the reasoning for Congress including the 431 gold as one of its charges is twofol😛 Uncle Sam did not consult Congress, and he did not reveal the gold spent until an article by his former Vice President Joe DaSmoe broke the story, relating to earlier charges of poor communication.

So the question is this: did he misspend the money, and was he wrong in not informing Congress ahead of time? Some claim the gold would have been better spent in the war on Mexico. There were some very obvious mistakes in how he conducted that war. But would the gold have made much of a difference, especially now that the war is over in all but name, with both sides resigned to a cold war? Perhaps.

And what if he had informed Congress? I am unsure of the timeline of when he was approached for the assistance in the battle, but it would seem that it was time-sensitive, and Congressional approval would take too much time. Congressional discussion would have been better, and Uncle Sam has an unfortunate record of neglecting to inform until after the fact. This time, it has been too much for Congress.

But has it been too much for the eAmerican people, or is Congress just enacting its own wishes? According to a recent political survey done by the Weekly Broadaxe, the eAmerican people approve of his impeachment-by 51%. So, perhaps it is the wish of the eAmerican people that Uncle Sam be impeached. But have the senators consulted with their constituents? If they have, they have not stated so, neither in game or in the forums, or at least nowhere that I have access.

Back to the start of this article, if you have read this far, I again ask why do we have the presidency if any time public approval goes down, Congress looks to the President as a scapegoat? Obviously, they had the power to prevent the war from going, or from donating all that money to the treasury, for Uncle Sam to use. Yes, they promise to correct their mistakes by not writing any more blank checks for any president. But impeachment is not that way. It’s similar to taking a multiple choice test, seeing that you marked an answer incorrectly, and then setting fire to the whole thing, and replacing it with a new sheet. Some in Congress have tried to have this impeachment relabeled as a Vote of No Confidence, which is different from an impeachment, but only in the real world. There is no game mechanic for a VoNC. It has the same result, so do not try to dress it up as something it is not.
