Whose Game is it Anyway?

Day 1,198, 12:30 Published in South Africa South Africa by SamGibz

After hearing about what has happened in the past 24 hours, I began thinking about a few things. Admins, don’t jump to that Perma button, you may want to read this first! 🙂 I gave myself one question to think about. “Who is in the right and who is in the wrong?”. What I discovered may make you think again about shouting out, “Admins Suck!”.

Background

For those that already know what is going on, skip this. In short, missing big chunks out, Presidents of many countries within eRepublik decided to band together to stick up against admins by ceasing wars and changing the citizen message displayed to new citizens to messages that have reference to disagreeing with what admins have done. They were then temporarily banned, but continued with offensive acts and are now permanently banned. Since, admins have said that anyone doing such acts will be permanently banned without hesitation.

The Changes

We all know of the latest changes have done to this game. Many agree with the changes, many disagree and have shown this clearly. I have my own views on the changes, for example I disagree with what admins have done with the economic module allowing managers to work. I do agree with admins latest change to deter the use of Multis. It is one of many tools that can be used to rid the eWorld of cheaters and does not prevent me from conducting business in any shape or form. It is also a small price to pay for countries.

Citizens Response and Protest

As a member playing the game, I see the frustration of things being changed that will effect each other. Admins encourage us to give feedback to the game. However, many of us decide to write articles expressing disgust to what the admins have done. We have all seen them. The argument is always, “Admins are ruining the game”. I will come back to this at the end. Is what we do worth it however. No, since when have admins listened? The creates frustration and anger resulting in acts that are obvious to see.

Admins

Admins are not helping themselves I feel. They are not telling us of the changes. They removed their newspaper (a bad move I think), and don’t give much information on the forums. If they were to tell us what they were going to do and when, we could prepare for it so we don’t loose out.

Admins respond to the protest and articles by banning players in some shape or form and removing the offending articles or posts. Should they be able to do this? After all, they are only our views. They add to the fire and more players are dragged into the situation.

The changes they make are also in quick succession. Some are trialled and removed, some here to stay. They messed up V2, this cannot be denied, but since then, every change they have made is immediately assumed to be a bad one. “What have admins done now!”. Some of this could be sorted by them just telling us what they are doing.

Citizens and the Game/ Conclusion

This is where things get interesting. Read the terms and conditions. By signing into the game, you agree that admins can remove anything that may negatively effect the game.

You are all literally walking into your own fate. Admins have the right to change the game. At the end of the day, you are playing their game. They don’t have to tell you what is going on. It is good customer support for them to do so, for them to listen to you and take your views on board, but if they are not after this, they are under no obligation to do so.

If you don’t like what they are doing. The action you take is quite simple. Leave the game. What have you got too loose? You have not gone to admins and said, “make me a game”. Admins have come to you and said, “fancy trying the game out”, which you said, “yes”. If you have put real money into the game, it would be frustrating for you. But you choose to put your own money into the game and you took a risk.

If admins want “us” all to leave, then don’t fight it. What I mean by this is so, by making the changes, many people disagree. If people disagree, you leave the game. If you leave the game then you have done so because you disagree with what admins have done. Admins have made this game for profit, if there are no citizens, they cannot make money. So vote with your feet people. Unless of course you have a major problem and cannot live without this game?

This is only a game. If you don’t like what is going on, leave or adapt. You have no footing. It would be nice if admins would listen to us, but they don’t and so accept it. If they have poor customer service, do what you would do at a restaurant, get up and leave. Why should this be any different?

I am not saying you should leave, I personally am staying put and will just get on with the changes that admins have the right to make. All I am saying is wake up, it not your game. If admins want to make mistakes, let them. But in truth, admins have done nothing wrong by changing the game. They are perfectly ok to “ruin the game”, if you think so.

EDIT:

I would like to say that I admire what the CP’s and the protests are trying to do in the sense of making a voice heard. I admire that they have been able to come together in such away and have such a voice. However, your efforts are wasted. Just leave this game if you don’t like what is going on. There is no battle to win, just your own frustration to your inability to accept change. Things happen in life you don’t like, get on with it. Grow a set boys! Ladies, just do what you do when things go wrong. Also, your Gadaffi references are a little off. Admins are not trying to hold onto us and control is.
