This Monday 25th of February the country will be heading to the polling booths, so to speak, to choose the representatives for her Congress. Being only 8 days old I was slightly unsure about the Independent Alliance approaching a party due to the lateness. I also wanted the party to focus on our foundations for a few weeks at least, but fate is a fickle mistress and eUK elder statesman Talon Karrde mentioned the possibility of the Independent Alliance running with TUP. Well it wet my appetite and that of our members, but those of you who know my background will be aware that I have been very critical of TUP in the past and that is a conservative comment to say the least.
I have recently taken stock of my eLife and realised many things, especially my stance on the political 'divide' within this eCountry. I wanted the Independent Alliance to work with many parties, open to all and closed to none and with that in mind the TUP offer excited me. Of course (and quite rightly) TUP would be offering good spots to another party they were graciously helping out - UKRP, the long established party that currently has over 90 members more than the Independent Alliance. So obviously being so late in the day and considering TUP's commitment we can not expect a placing that will guarantee a Congress return for one of our members...but that doesn't mean that TUP should not be applauded for that gesture.
I urge all members and all voters in the eUK who have yet to make up their minds to cast your vote to TUP. TUP are a party with a long established history and some very hard working and dedicated members and it is fair to say that many do not realise all the work and effort some TUP statesmen put in behind the scenes, not just for the eUK but for our alliance with TWO as well. It is this tireless work that has allowed us such strong support from our allies in times of dire need and for that we should be very grateful. We are proud to stand alongside TUP, a party who have returned a new player as party president twice in the last three successful candidates, and even if the Independent Alliance is not fortunate to have a representative in congress this month we fully support TUP, thank them and hope you offer them your support in this months congress elections.
Elsewhere we are still looking for 3 more members to register with the eUK official forums , we urge all members please sign up as our own forum section is vital to our growth. This does not mean we will be taking decisions away from our current system but it will be a valuable tool for hosting our constitution and debates that can host more than 30 members if our membership continues to grow. So please just click the forum link and sign up.
We hope to see you in our brand spanking new IRC channel tonight as well #independence where we will be most nights. All are welcome and the channel will never be locked to outside citizens whether it be during a party conference or one of our future competition nights.
Our second party conference will be held on the 3rd of March at 8pm, this date will be a regular set date on your calendar so at least we are aware each month. Everything is open for discussion if a member requests it during the meeting and that includes our constitution...nothing is signed sealed and delivered as we aim to grow and nurture each month and we wish all workings of the party to be relevant.
We also will be announcing the results of our official ballot on who we will be supporting for the eUK presidential elections. All members will be balloted 24 hours before the congress with a list of options and the decision will be 100% down to the party membership. There will be several options in the ballot and ample chance to discuss the candidates at the conference. Ballot voting will close one hour after the conference finishes.
The Independent Alliance are proud to announce that our media fund is up and running. Not already have a newspaper? Saving your gold for training ground updates? Well even if you don't have any then we will fund anyone within the party so you can buy your own newspaper without using your own valuable resources. The content is completely down to you so do not feel you have to produce party material, there is literally no catch. The content is 100% completely down to you and you alone, and once you have published an article feel free to publicise it in the Alliance news feed and we will help vote it op and re-shout it.

We have an avatar template available to all party members and the use of these avatars is obviously up to each individual. Perhaps, some guys are right, and I am pretty dumb judging people.
Anyway, any decission you take is respecte😛 your play, your game, and now, even, your party.
How on earth is running with another party losing independence? By not doing this we are losing our chance to get a player into congress and I ensure you if we do manage to get a congress(wo)man they will be putting forward our party's agenda and not TUP's.
technically, if you attach yourself to any other entity, you become "somewhat" depedendent of that alien entity. It's a pure *technical* language definition. With this, Hugh is closer to TUP and less closer to others, his decission, his consequences.
We didn't want to run anyone for Congress this month, but some of our members thought it might be a good idea, and Talon approached Hugh. We aren't "dependent" of TUP at all. IF we gain a Congress seat, which is extremely unlikely, I will be representing IA, not TUP. I very much doubt any of the parties NE are running would say they're dependent on you.
As I say, when you choose to walk along someone, probably, you are following his same path, or part of the path. Technically, your party is now parliament-dependant on TUP, what implications does it have ? At least, a moral gratitude and acknowdledge that you agree with them in some things, there's some ammount of affinity. I think, this is something very natural to think.
I'm sure you would have been very happy had IA run with New Era.
Tom - We absolutely would have! We were not seeking a Congress seat this month, both me and Hugh felt it was way too early but as already said, some of our members thought it would be a good idea. We were approached by Talon. Had we been approached by NE, we would have absolutely run with them. But as we weren't seeking a Congress seat we never approached anyone ourselves. It was a last minute job really
Lets get this straight. One thing New Era don't grasp is that we listen to our members...then we act on their behalf. The members wanted this so we went with it. It is called democracy and listening and respecting your members.
If New Era had approached us I would have still put it to the membership to decide...let me repeat that - I would have put it to the membership to decide. Probably a concept they are struggling with.
I am getting very sick and tired with New Era thinking they have a right to decide who another party supports after THEIR membership decided which path to choose. It is not up to you, it is up to the membership of the IA.
I have also noticed the hate campaign that usually follows when people leave New Era has stepped up a notch or two. Congratulations. The graphic on Sir Winstons last article about ''Your game etc etc...'' Obviously means your game as long as it is okay with them. If not you will be flamed, attacked and bawwwed.
Alpha, we are Independent in the fact that we have no prior leanings to who we have no doors closed to any party. Next month if we are lucky we could be running with UKPP, ESO, TUP etc etc
And I didn't decide by myself. It was raised at Conference and the membership were happy to go with it. Some say I have diluted the powers of the PP by allowing the membership to choose their officers and looking for them to choose the rankings of future congress candidates...this is far from ''my'' party.
I will go so far as to say that within the next few weeks the IA will be THE most democratic party in eRepublik
congratulations , if you voted such thing. In fact, I should have recalled it right since "democracy" is part of your "axiomatic legal corpus". Perhaps, you have diluted your PP powers, but you have strengthen your leader role.
Alpha you was at the conference, the doors were open to all and the decision was made by them. I am not afriad to say I was unsure because I thought we were unready being just a week old.
I do not see where you get this idea that I have this control over the members. I don't and don't want any. I do not choose the next PP and I haven't even put my name forward for next month unlike some parties presidents who already have. I am only a leader in as much as i am the CURRENT PP, when that ends then the title ends, I am one member in a party of individuals all with the same voice and same power...I may currently be PP and I dot the ''i''s but I do not write the letters as that is down to the members.
and you forget a subtle detail. Even in the purest democracy, it's important who chooses what is going to be voted, when and how. There's always a "starter" or "seed". And another thing, in chaotic systems mechanic, from a two very similar beginnings you obtain very different final states, a very , and subtle, difference may render even oposite final states.
New Era will be running players from PCP, GoUK and WRP. We also offered seats to GBDP and TRS.
This is a real Independant Alliance. New Era can offer this as rank 2 party, you cannot.

The concept of this party is to work with all, no preconceptions, no shut doors. The foundations of this party is democracy, membership involved in EVERY decision of the day to day running of the party. Members who know that in the Independent Alliance even if they don't become Congressmen/women that they can still influence everything from who our officers are to who is ranked where on our congress candidate list..if we are ever lucky enough to be in the top 5.
This is far from an individuals party, this is far from a core group having complete influence on decisions. My vote on issues is the same as Sams, same as Lancers, same as Apsa's...no more important and no less important.
After next months conference you will see that our party is the most democratic, some will say weak through not having a dominating PP but I say a party of the people, for the people, run by the people and open to all. Unbiased, unmoving and progressive. Today belongs to the divide but tomorrow belongs to the eUK as a whole.

As I said in my article, PP is rather irrelevant most of the times. He's just an organizer, ( that's why Goku is so good PP). Parties have leaders or aristocracies of noble peers.

Hugh, democracy exists too, but it implies full participation of members. in this game small parties democracy resembles too much to aristocracy, since no big party will get full participation of its members. Small democracy = aristocracy, it's the same size, same rights, same involvement.
Then as I have said we'll break the mold. I can not see your objection to another partys membership deciding they want to run with another party. Are you suggesting that PCP have no individuality no more now that they run with New Era in congress elections? If so perhaps you should ask yourself why they rejected the vote for a merger when it was proposed to their membership.
Complete openness and full democracy as far as the game will allow and you seem to find fault with the concept, that is something that does surprise me.
hugh, the question is that PCP and NE are very similar in many, many things, so it's natural for us and for them to walk together. It's not casual. The same with WRP, I do agree with many ideas and attitudes of WRP. Even NE and IA are closer than NE and TUP, obviously, at least now and if you see the members and their previous parties.
Why are IA and New Era similar? What policies are similar? What concept of electing our officers are similar? How is our ideas of choosing our congress candidates similar? The only thing we have in common is our backing of TWO. We are Independent of a divide and will work with whoever, whenever and however our membership chooses...regardless of anything I believe or say because we are a complete democracy. And for the record I did vote to accept the kind offer by TUP...BUT...as with everything in the conference I had my say last after all members had had their say so I can not be accused of influencing the membership.
IA is similar to NE in many things. Democracy being one of them, ofc. It's easy to implement democracy from scratch in a small party. It's much harder in a big party where 90% of people won't be in every single IRC party conference. IA is similar to NE in trying new things (you are basically trying a new thing), IA is similar to NE in openness.
Small or large all motions are set in place via the constitution. Future PP's will have to operate by that. As the party grows so will the means of democracy...the ballot PM system would work for choosing direction of elections. And agendas for future conferences along with easy directions will be sent out so everyone knows what will be discussed and where it will be discussed. If they choose to not participate then they still will have in game options to choose candidates for congress, party officials etc etc

I am not selling myself. I am the driver of a vehicle in cruise control that has the intelligence and freedom to pick its own route. The membership were told, , they discussed, they voted and they chose to accept the kind offer from TUP.

No offence taken, I know I did. My personal preferences go out the window anyway now because it's all down to whichever way the guys vote. For the record I did originally think it was too soon no matter which party would have approached us and i did keep my opinion aside until everyone else had their say. But it was considering my history with TUP that i did think it was a honest and admirable offer by Talon and TUP.
As i said this decision was not down to me though i do fully intend to work with any party who wishes too and all parties get a clean slate...and I hope they give me a clean slate.
