Where has neutrality gone?

Day 818, 08:29 Published in Russia Germany by Skalg von Tuari

Whew, that was a couple of days! WW IV started again after EDEN had become a bit lazy, attacks everywhere.

eChina lost its high iron region, eBrazils was defended and eSerbia has expanded a lot into Asia, taking nearly all ePakistani regions and a some eChinese; eGreece conquered two eTurkish regions, and the war in eUK is not over yet. Still, these places are not new to this war, eTurkey was secured just a short while ago, and eBrazil has smaller battles against ePeru all the time. eUK was threatened for months, and the attacks have taken place for a while now. And eChina was always a playground mainly for eHungary and eRussia; what is really interesting, though, is where the neutral states are standing right now.

Take the eUkraine; they are having MPPs with eFrance, ePoland, eRomania, eGreece and eJapan right now, while MPPs with eCroatia and eItaly are going to be signed. So we have the Entente and four EDEN-countries who have signed MPPs with eUkraine. The Entente, of course, lost one of its members, eFrance, because of EDEN-forces; and the eUkraine is known to have feared an invasion by both eRomania and ePoland for a very long time. Now they support countries they are afraid of and who attacked their allies? Some people from eFrance decided to move to the eUkraine, and it is possible that they could change the course a little bit or at least influence it; but obviously the eUkraine is, at least at the moment, more a threat to PHOENIX than a possible ally or a neutral state. The course can be shown by a law proposal some while ago; it was about donating a very small amout of money to the eRussian fund. Of course, it was declined by a rather high vote.

Another, and sadder, example is eAustria, which has stayed neutral for a very long time. Suddenly, it was invaded by eCroatia and eHungary; it seems like this was only some kind of race to the eGerman border. It seems like they were even offered a deal by eCroatia which you could paraphrase as a region swap - and eAustria declined this, as it would have meant to give up they neutrality and helping EDEN. Now they have new allies with eSerbia and eSlovenia supporting them; and if they really take help PHOENIX, they are going to become full supporter of us and there won't be much left of they neutrality as well. So whatever they choose - it is not going to be what they want.

Big wars are the worst thing that can happen to neutral countries; and it is going to be really interesting whether eAustria will be able to maintain it's neutrality even after the war. And the fate of the Entente is not decided as well - are they going to exist afterwards? Or will eFrance join PHOENIX, as will the eUkraine with EDEN? Maybe it will expand with eAustria as a new member - who knows. But the role of neutral states in eRepublik will be an important issue for politics.
