Where friends come from?

Good morning and happy caturday everyone! A year ago I decided to collect some data regarding in game friendships. I’m sure you all receive, from time to time, a friendship request that makes you wonder: “Whos this? How this player found me?”

We can figure out that the main locations where you find people in eRepublik are the chat shoutbox, the articles, the party, the military unit and the infamous mission asking to add 100 friends, but I found there are also other minor reasons pushing a player to ask friendship.

I started to count all the friendship requests I received on 23th August 2022, and in a year I have 165 new friends. It means a pretty active citizen get almost a friendship request every two days.

I asked to every new friend this simple question:
“Hello.
I want to write an article, one day when I'll have many data, about how friends in my friend list found me. So how did you found Mister Y?”

This graphic shows the results:



The results are pretty what I expected to see: I am mostly a writer and I read and comment articles around the world, so most of the people saw me there. I’m sure other people are seen more on battleground and someone else get more friendship requests from their party members.

But let’s describe the most specific answers and reasons.

SHOUTBOX:
20 saw my comment to their friend’s chats
2 received my like in their comment

NEWSPAPER:
6 saw my comment to their articles
1 saw my endorse to his article
13 saw my comment to other articles
13 read my articles

OTHER FRIENDS:
1 heard something about me from another friend
3 saw me in the friend list of their best friends

1 met me in the special MENTOR chatbox, an old in game program still running despite their developers are all long time gone

1 saw me selling gold in MONETARY MARKET

7 dead citizens decided to REVIVE and add me again

FAME:
1 litterally said “Mister Y is an historical player so I must add him”
1 adds every big player of eRepublik

PARTY:
1 was searching for an interesting party
1 asked friendship to all his party members
1 tried to recruit me in his party

MILITARY UNIT:
4 asked friendship to all US Army members
1 asked friendship to US Army commanders
1 saw me in damage leaderboard
1 saw my shout in US Army wall

8 saw me fight in their same BATTLEGROUND

RANDOM:
15 saw me in online citizens list while they were making the mission to add 100 friends
16 saw me in online citizens list
4 were a totally random request
1 add random players asking if they sell packs

2 run a PROGRAM that automatically sends friendship requests

37 didn’t answered my message
1 said he doesn’t remember where he found me even if I asked just 6 minutes after the request, I added him in the "no answer" slice too.

TOTAL: 165 friendship requests in a year.
