Where's Tayto (Part 3) - Croagh Patrick, Mayo
Mr. Tayto
Last time out, I had some lovely Hang Sangwiches in Shannon and shortly afterwards I boarded a Bus bound for Mayo via Dublin. Ireland has an excellent Bus service that requires all Buses to pass through Dublin making this 2 hour car ride a 7 hour Bus journey. Fun and games!
So in this edition of "Where's Tayto?", we will explore the eRepublik region of Mayo and its capital Castlebar.
Sporting Achievments:
Mayo are the Best Gaelic Football team in the Country between the months of May and August, every year! The only problem is that titles are decided in September. The Mayo Football team are officially cursed having somehow lost 6 All-Ireland finals since 1989 and havent won the title since 1951.
Linguistic Facts:
"Shtate ah you and a bag of chips" - Surely something to do with the fact that Supermac's can be found in every town in this e-region.
"Shtall The Digger boss" - Alot of Mayo men find themselves working in construction apparently.
The Anthems:
The Green and Red of Mayo
The Anthem of Mayo.
The Emigrant Song
This song is in honour of all the Irish who have had to emigrate from Ireland over the years. Historically Mayo has one of the highest levels of emigration in Ireland.
To Win Just Once
My own personal favourite song from this eRepublik region. Also, I dedicate this song to the Mayo Football team.
Landmark to See:
Lots to see in Mayo as its based on the West Coast of Ireland, but Croagh Patrick gets thousands of visitors every year especially on Reek Sunday. Can you find me on Croagh Patrick?
Join me next week, when I travel to Louth, the wee-county.
Comments
Before you leave Castlebar, swing by Portofino Restaurant on Tucker St and tell them Paddy sent you. I definitely recommend the calzones, as they are spot on 🙂
That's dinner for tonight sorted!
Thanks Paddy
No mention of Enda?
No Party Political Broadcasts allowed 😛

I thought Zeppelin did the Emigrant song?
😉
Good one
Apart from the Emigrant/Immigrant issue (Im = comes in, Em = goes out) great article.
I don't like the Sawdoctors music with the exception being To Win Just Once.
In relation to the bus routes going through Dublin, we just want to see what the country folk are up to and so we make them come through Dublin.
On climbing Croagh Patrick, have done it once as a child, but wouldn't fancy it with no shoes on.

bus routes is easy to understand your always travelling to and fro cities. - country town to country town is not economically feasible so they redirect it through dublin so they can load full busses. here we dont have bus service but people make use of hiking spots and taxis
rest have to travel to another town to connect to a bus route. but usually very slow etc..
in irep you dont have to redirect through dublin though.
