Where's Tayto (Part 1) - Cork City Gaol
Mr. Tayto
I've decided to do a brief tour of eIreland. Where better to start than the spiritual capital of Ireland... Cork... or as the locals call it "Kark".
Sporting Achievments:
Cork are Stick-Swinging legends having won the All Ireland Stick-Swinging Title 30 times.
The country's most famous soccer player hailed from Cork. His antics at the 2002 World Cup split the country in two. Those who were right, and those who thought he was wrong.
One of the most popular sports in Cork is throwing stones at cars. There's even a national title which is usually won by someone from Cork.
Linguistic Fact:
The locals may resort to confusing your name with that of the winner of the 1993 US Masters Golf Championship. Presumably because you too are a winner.
Corkonians seem to "Like" alot of things. So much so that it is the Law of the land to end each sentence with the word "Like", the only exception is by replacing the word with "Boy".
The Anthems:
How oft do my thoughts in their fancy take flight...
A song about a river named after Bruce Lee.
Down in Cork he'd be known as a...
In honour of the great German golfer mentioned above.
Oh will you meet me on Saturday night?
My own personal favourite Cork song.
Landmark to See:
Lots to see in Kark, but one of the the best landmarks has to be Cork City Gaol, where I spent some time after being arrested for being involved in a street brawl with my arch nemesis Mr. Walker.
See if you can find me in Gaol:
Join me next week, when I jet off to Shannon!
Comments
you make me happy Mr Tayto
They throw underhand?
Seems kind of sissy to me.
😛
Indeed they do:

this actually looks like a cool sport. 😛
I bet the jail looks nicer on the outside than the inside.
voted for spelling gaol with its proper English spelling rather than some US version like jail \o/
🙂
Is there anybody who can toss a rock effectively with either their left or right arms.
I can't & have been told that its a genetic ability that most people do not possess
I can throw effectively with both hands even if I spell JAIL like JAIL.
underarm does not count, except for (girly girls) and the correct spelling for gaol is not jail (outside of the US )
I live in the US. So jail is jail. lol
If I write gaol I get the little red underline that says I spell it wrong so.....
🙂
And I can throw over the shoulder. Effectively with both arms. Not as well with the left as the right but effectively.
Apparently not many people can do that
Well I am special. 😛
It is a matter of practice, and since most people throw with the arm that feels most comfortable they never bother to practice with the other one. Practice enough with your weaker arm and you will become effective with it.

Raven, that video is not allowed in Ireland... ironically enough!
ah well aside from there being like 5 bars, there's also a ton of Tayto chips at the Irish heritage center. 😛
well we are importing bunduberg already but the price would kill it that listing price is twice that of its south african competitor. i am not from the us.
bunduberg is about 3 times a normal coke can and 1,5 that of appletizer we even get snapple but that isnt very good and very expensive.
Everything hunky dory?
How do you give thumbs down to comments?
😉
If this article gets 40 votes there will be a Part 2.....
12 votes aint too bad 40 is unrealistic
Possibly... but you have to reach for the sky sometimes
Road bowling is also an interesting sport in the area, unless this is what you are referring to 🙂
That's the one Paddy
Hey, ya langer! I think ya should know now, like, that I was literally just eating Taytos right before I read this spiel. And I'm only reading it from me home in the Rebel County of Kark! 🙂
Doubt cha boy!
Did ya know that the Gaol was mostly a women's prison, boy?
Rightly so! Wonder if Grainne has ever been 😛

That was only for the Garry like!
Thanks for the article Tayto. How come I cannot see Mr. Walker in the prison (avoiding the gaol/jail debate) ? Surely if the two of you were fighting then he should have been arrested, or did you put him in hospital?
He's expected out of hospital in the next week or two!
🙂
How come I cannot see Mr. Walker in the prison?
He walked.
