Week Seven, Five to go

Day 1,067, 17:55 Published in USA USA by Sleeve

We went into the field this past week. Two more weeks in the field. Luckily we come back on the weekend to shower. We had land navigation. Damn that was rough. Was very fun getting lost in the woods though. With nothing but a compass and a map we were tasked with finding random points in the deep growth. Was crazy. Very fun getting lost in the woods. 5am until 10am. In the PITCH DARK. 160 people out there not allowed to talk to each other, but of course having the same points. Very interesting social dynamic and non verbal communication going on for it. I was one of about 4 looking for one point and finally found it, beat the post with a stick to sound off its location. The reflection of my lamp on the sign soon brought the people right behind me to it. The thick trees hid the damned thing only about 15-20 feet away from us all. The closest person behind me promptly gave me a quick hug. Very entertaining. We had to find 5 points out of 8 ten digit grid locations to pass. So tensions were high. I ended getting 7. Didn't even have to run either.
Pretty good day.

Did I mention the wild boars? I saw an armadillo (it was adorable!), snake, and a deer. Heard the Boars during the night. Pretty scary in the dark trying to find your way through the woods when you're lost and hearing boars in the direction you think you should be going in.
