Wasted Away in Key West
George Armstrong Custer
spent the winter of '84-85 in Key West.. went in this place for a drink or ten, sat next to a guy doing pretty much the same. he liked that I wasn't all star struck ("famous, shmamus, who's buying the next round?"), and we wasted away the afternoon talking about the great and ill effects of tourism on the historic little town.
a fight broke out at the other end of the bar and expanded like a wave till we were caught up in it. last thing I remember, before waking up in the gutter out front, was standing back to back with Jimmy Buffett taking on all comers.
nice guy.
next round's on me.

For Jimmy Buffet.
this read, while short, gave me a sense of nostalgia for a time where i wasn't even alive.

RIP Jimmy
A really weird regret I have is being in Montego Bay and driving past Margaritaville, and not having the time to stop in and check it out. It looked amazing, with water slides into the ocean, outdoor seating, and paddle boats. It really did look like a bit of paradise.
"Mother, mother ocean, after all these years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned
Gonna head uptown"
