Viva la Socialism

Don't believe that socialism is dead! This is just the materialist propaganda of neo-conservative diehard capitalists. Real socialism has never been tried on a large scale.
Socialism is the perspective and orientation that takes the good of society as a whole as the central idea, rather than one's personal, individualistic good as all important. Thus, socialism is the opposite of the individualism with which we are brainwashed today.
I believe to prevent oppression and suppression, Socialism must respect and nurture individuals. However, the individual's purpose in life should not merely be its own pleasure or success. The individual's purpose and meaning is found beyond its little "self" in society, nature, and socialism.
For anything to succeed in this natural world it must harmonize with, be in line with Spiritual socialism, follow from and serve, the Law of Nature. That is, anything that fits with, conforms to, follows from, and serves the Law of Nature is "Spiritual Socialism"
To be Spiritual Socialist is to be non-violent, unselfish, compassionate, mindful, and cool. It can be summarized it in two words "peaceful" and "useful."
Being "peaceful" means doing nothing to hurt, harm, exploit, abuse, or oppress anyone, whether others of oneself. Such peacefulness requires a heart-mind free of selfishness and egoism.
Being "useful" means helping in the struggle for genuine liberation from suffering, no mater on what level or in what area of life.

pertamax?
Democratic Socialism! 😉
While I understand, and even laud your ideas, I just can't help but feel that, ultimately, those ideas aren't grounded in reality. How do you propose going about freeing people from egoism and selfishness? While egoism certainly has little in the way of redeeming characteristics, we see selfishness in Nature all the way down to the cellular level. It is the fuel that ultimately drives the vehicle that is evolution, and it is through selfishness that we've obtained a state were we are free to discuss ideas like this.
Voted. Diffidently one of the better pro-socialism arguments I've seen in the past few weeks.
1) Freedom is our birth right (God given right), and with it comes the responsibility to respect all other living things. No individual, law, or nation can take Free Will away while it rests in the hearts of humans; and similarly nothing can protect it when it has corroded away.
2) One can choose to follow their animalistic urges or live a civilized live. God has given us all Free Will, and it is our choice whether we use that for the good of society or for evil; while we keep in our minds that we reap what we sow.
Excellent. Again, there is more depth in your argument for Socialism than most of what I've seen here on Erepublik.
Now, if I'm wrong, please, correct me. From your original article, and the response you've posted in regards to my question, you seem to be of the mindset that Socialism, as you portray it (a great, equal respect for all peoples, nations and ideas) is something that will be achieved naturally. Yet we can influence the speed by which it is achieved by the way we act, and by the example we set.
Correct?
Yes, it is something that will be achieved naturally.
But whether our actions count as external(artificial) influence or natural influence is debatable. Those who believe in fate would say our actions are natural influences in the universe made by God, while those who think they control their own fate would say humans are external influences with the power to speed up or slow down natural events.
Quiet frankly, good sir, if I wasn't a raging, capitalist dog and imperialist pig, I'd completely side with you. I would suggest you take this idea to other socialists in Erepublik and in the real world, because your tolerance and your vision is something that Socialism needs. I think you're right on the money. You've presented an incredibly valid argument. Thank you.
About selfishness/competition, a couple of scientific texts I like😛
-Ethics, by Kropotkin (as I didn't actually read the relevant one, "Mutual aid as a factor of evolution"), where it gives examples of cooperation and mutual aid in the animal world, as a strategy for survival, complementary to competition.
-"The selfish gene" (and, again, I have not yet read the more relevant one, "Extended phenotype"): different century, so the science has gotten way more accurate, but again the author shows that individuals are not forced by evolution to be (entirely) selfish.
That is without even taking free will into account...
I'm guessing you're talking about RL. The problem with socialism is if you tell people that if they're lazy their going to get the same rewards as if they work hard, then they're going to choose to be lazy. What really works is if people are responsible for their own actions, then they're choose the right actions. It makes perfect sense.
It also makes perfect sense that humankind will eventually see it's errors and realize that in helping others they help themselves by creating a better environment to live in and for the sake for future generations.
If you don't believe me watch the movie Capitalism: A love story
Democratic Socialism: Because most of the time, Capitalism Fails on a Scale of Epic Proportions.
