US N&C 5:1 -- eRepublik Monetization Strategy, Thoughts on War, and More!
US News and Classifieds
The US News and Classifieds today brings you US-cetric news and current events and the opportunity for employers and potential employees to connect. This issue brings news from an eRepublik founder on their monetization strategy, this week's economic league table, a call to help build a new player guide, thoughts on war, and status at the DoD -- read on for details.

eRepublik's Monetization Strategy
George, one of the founders of eRepublik, has taken some time to write a very thoughtful essay on their [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-139141.html]monetization strategy[/a] and has solicited feedback both via comments and PMs. Please do not pass this opportunity up since the admin team has been very reticent in soliciting direct feedback. Take a few minutes to tell them what you think. This reporter helps to operate a very large scale website and I personally feel that using a virtual currency market (buying eGold with real money) as your main monetization strategy is a very _bad_ idea. I would ask the eRepublik team to consider other avenues of revenue, at least to start, then grow as the game grows. Perhaps a normal advertising strategy to start...Google adsense? a Doubleclick ad server? There are many options and ways to solve this problem, please feel free to contact me if I can be of help.
Economic League
Kaleb has posted his [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-140751.html]statistical analysis[/a] of this week's changes. Head on over to take a look. It seems that population is trending downwards. I would think that this is people leaving the game due to lack of engagement opportunities. It is my sincere hope that the war module is launched soon, and that it provides an outlet for those who are desperately seeking ways to be involved in this game.
Help Build a New Player Guide
Nave put forth the idea to help build a [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-136301.html]new player guide[/a] in order to lower the entry-point of this game and allow us to ramp up new players into productive members of eSociety much faster. Originally I was unsure that this idea would take hold, but it seems that several people have signed on to help with this project, so please head on over and take a look.
Thoughts on War
Given the immanent (hopefully?) release of the war module there has been a lot of talk about what that will mean for eRepublik. User Peter Gibbons recently held a poll for a quick litmus test of [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-132642.html]where people stood on the subject of war[/a]. Not surprisingly, given the amount of press we have seen on the subject, most users are trending towards peace. This reporter just had to ask, [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-141342.html]where are all the warmongers[/a]? Generally online games harbor at least some population of combative individuals who seek to conquer all they survey. Has eRepublik driven themselves into such a niche market that they only attract a certain player archetype? Will war ever really get started? Or are players just biding their time until they can strike unannounced?
Status at the DoD
Dish continues to work very hard to get the DoD [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-141202.html]functional and alert[/a] here in the US. He has a quick recap of the status over there. Make sure you have at least read the offsite forums to understand what is going on and ask plenty of questions if you would like to get involved. Keep up the great work guys.

Great article, as usual. Also, you should\'ve mentioned the US\'s growth.. deflation is still occuring despite everyone\'s predictions... that will have to be fixed.
Thank you. I missed a couple of those articles so I read them now.
I\'d like an add for my job offers, just tell me what the donations are and I\'ll pay it.

A pleasure to read your articles.
- Right after we\'ll put in place the war system our tech team will start working on the new version that we plan to have it live in summer. In the current version we\'ve made many mistakes and a also lot of good things. Mistakes and good things we will continue to do. The important thing is that in summer we should have a very good Erepublik New World.
As I stated earlier, I don\'t believe in having a revenue model based only on advertising and access to simple features. It would not allow us to grow as fast as we want to.
- Meanwhile we\'ve worked on some new modifications that will increase the demand of goods, we\'ll have an Erepublik wiki and, based on the feedback of the last article, we reanalyzed the strength loss/boosting in the fight system (more info to come).
Hmm... How fast do guys wanna grow.
@Nave: I thought I would leave the technical discussions to those who were interested, trying to keep things here as high level as possible while offering the info to go deeper as people are interested.
@Uncle Sam: I haven\'t been charging for the simple one-liners, want this to grow organically. If you feel this is a valuable service I certainly wont turn away donations of any amount. 🙂
@George: The community really appreciates your increased transparency. The open dialog you have started may seem like a terrible thing, but keep in mind that people who feel \"unhappy\" are 10x more likely to speak up than those who are happy. Simply holding even-tempered discourse is a great thing no matter what you ultimately decide.
>keep in mind that people who feel \"unhappy\" are 10x more likely to speak up than those who are happy
I\'d like to edit that to \"unhappy folk are 10x more likely to speak up than content folk\". Happy people do have a tenancy of gushing about their happiness; it\'s just a lot easier to make people unhappy than unhappy. It\'s the content people, which are usually the majority, that don\'t bother telling us about how content they are. At a rough estimate, I\'d put the the % divide of active people at 15-80-5 (unhappy-content-happy). Might to a survey out of curiosity.
@Maalygos - to be honest, being close to the community doesn\'t just helps by making them appreciate this (still very important too), the other very good effect that we get is the amount of very interesting ideas that we obtain about the new features. We keep a constant dialog also with Presidents of Sweden, US, UK, Romania, etc. Not to mention that in the end the best place where we can get new real office mates is Erepublik. Right now only from Romania, but later we will need to have a separate strategy for each country.
So in the end I feel like we need to be even closer to the community,
@Platonic: Great point, and I would be very interested to see the results of a poll like that.
@George: I like what you said in the PM about real life people being born into wealth and them being willing to pay for gold to infuse into the economy allowing everyone to play for free, that might be a good point to make to the community at large. I hope you guys continue to grow, and when you need advice/help in the US give me a call, I\'m always looking for moonlighting work. 🙂
