It's good that we can have an open debate on this ahead of time. I hope we can reach a national consensus.

Hopefully we also get some advance notice of the details of economic changes and new resources, so we know what's up for grabs, especially in terms of new or rare resources.

From early clues it also seems like a healthy nuclear industry may be central to a country's defence, so collecting new resources vital to this may be a priority (as well as quite apt considering RL Australia is one of the world's largest uranium producers, and holds the largest reserves)

I'm all for maximising our bonus as much as possible. Especially in housing and weapons, making the hiring of employees profitable at current market rates for labour and goods.

This should attract companies here, as well as hopefully citizens. The stronger our economy and population is, the more able we are to repel any attacks which may come our way. We do well to manage under present conditions, under more favourable conditions I think we could rise above many nations we are currently behind. Along with maintaining our strong diplomatic situation I don't think the eAustralia of the present and future could be so easily overtaken as might have happened in the distant past.

We have played it safe for too long, this has lead to boredom or despair for many of our citizens, and many have sought opportunities in countries with better bonuses, more opportunities for real battles, and the more active communities that a greater population brings.

I am holding out opinions until more details are released.

As from my reading of it, there will be a mechanism to allow outside citizen's to have their factories here. If this is correct, Australia will need to find a balance between, resources and taxes.

Regions which we dont end up holding (going from the last resources wars there was a limited amount of some bonuses) could be made more favorable with lower taxes.

But to fully comment/suggest or discuss, I am waiting to see what Plato has planned in a more detailed update.

Definitely a double edged sword. However I think that people having to commit companies to a region could also incentivise the decision to move to Australia if we get ourselves some nice bonuses, as well as defend the regions even if you aren't a citizen, to prevent an invading force from increasing taxes on the region, which I believe they've announced will also be a new addition to the game.

For our own safety I wouldn't go for rare resources. But a few weapons regions would be nice.

Like Kattrrina, I think we shouldn't trying for rare resources. Probably other stronger countries will gain it too, so if people wil be attracted by rare resources, they will place it in secured regions of these countries. It's so unsure to gain the damage needed to never lose the region. Free and satisfed is better than occupied with rare bonuses and high taxation on it.

I don't know anything much about the new resources. (Acording to past changes, Plato doesn't know much when looking back at past updates. It usually takes admin 2 to 3 tries before they settle on the final version. Taking that into account I'll have 4 weaps and 3 food please. Q7 TANKS MEAN POWER AND FOOD MAKES THAT HAPPEN.

It would be nice to have 1 Rare resource, just place it in the most vulnerable spot so we can still have most of our states and rent it out if we want 😉

Might be hard to know what is going to be rare as everyone picks them out though, luck will come into play i feel, despite any plans

If we don't get a good resource we will also lose players to other countries as they chase the bonuses ...

We need to spice things up a little, we can't just be a nothing nation forever ....

I think we should reach out to our alliance friends and nations we have strong ties with and make alliances for resources now, asap, pronto. While not in our hands, better in a known ally then a nation known to be hostile to us. Maybe we rent out a few regions now to allies or mercenary nations for little to nothing in return for them fighting on our side later for a resource? We are a small nation with a small impact in terms of fighting strength compared to globally. We need to give incentives now to have help later.

Also, we as a nation need to start stockpiling weapons and food if we want to stand a decent chance of getting good resources. We got cash in the reserves, reach out to friendly MU's, make em offer they can't refuse to fight for our side when the time is right?

As read in the forums, people are predicting small and even meduim size countries to be all over red rover in terms of community. Once the big countries exersize their muscles, people will simply leave to go to them. Have we as a country have a strategy to keep our community? Why stay here if we don't have the resources to make being in eAus profitable?

We haven't been MTO'd yet, but if we grab a couple of half decent resource, guaranteed we will become a target.

We were MTOed in the past. But alot of those players have stayed and assimilated into our community.

In regards to the rental idea, that was what happened during the first RW, congress agreed on 'less' attractive resources to avoid what was happening in the past, constant wipe for our resources. Plus states set aside for agreed region rents, to help provide income and protection during a time when Australia was not as strong.

But nowadays we have a different make up and stronger diplomatic ties. However we are still not in the big boys league and we should think about any potential issues with selecting resources. With the ability to allow out side companies to set up shop here, we need to get the balance between good resources and tax rates to encourage outside factories/producers to set up shop here

The context for the MTO'd comment was since we have become a democracy this year. Should have clarified that. Sorry

My message i was trying to convey was that we are in an alliance, we have strong relations with some countries, lets have a discussion with them instead of as a country we pick resources, as an alliance we pick resources and help each other get those. Bigger picture and all. At the same time like you stated, we will want to get resources that will attract people here. Its a balance that i think congress should debate as soon as possible once resource information is known. Congress needs to debate what we want vs what we need to survive and unify behind that decision.

We need to start planning now in terms of politics with other countries/MU's and stockpiling food/wep so that when the resource war does start up, we have ample reserves.

Also as a side note. We currently have a loan program to help players get additional resource production capabilities. If we do get new resources, that will probably mean new companies who can use those companies. Whats our political parities (as i have no idea who will be in power when new resources are game implemented) thoughts on changing our loan scheme so that players (and eAus) can take advantage of our new resources as quickly as possible?

Still just loans for resources? Or could their be a possible change of policy to include starting a company, company upgrades? Food for thought..

I believe using loans for companies is already a possibility now, and especially given the low rate of applicants, it is easy to tailor them on a case by case basis. I think from memory the approved amount of total loans was something like 150 Gold, but it's something we could easily go back to the senate for further approval on.

A nuclear industry seems the most likely, so gearing up that may certainly be a priority. We now have just over 1 million in combined reserves; the resource war and new industries would certainly be worthy candidates for utilising some of that.

Perhaps the most democratic way to do this would be if once the new resource options are known, that each citizen nominates one resource type, whether it be a 20% food bonus, a rare nuclear bonus, or something in between, then we tally them all up and this is the list of priorities the CP uses when options become available. We could even assign each of them a percentage based on how many people vote for them, and this way we could establish an ideal mix. For example:

25% of citizens vote for a 20% food resource
25% of citizens vote for a 20% weapons resource
15% of citizens vote for a rare housing resource
15% of citizens vote for a rare nuclear resource
10% of citizens vote for a 20% nuclear resource
the remaining 10% vote for a variety of other options.

As each state/territory is 14% of the country, we would then aim for this:

2x20% food
2x20% weapons
1xrare housing
1xrare nuclear
1x20% nuclear

Obiously there may still be some strategy, as the rare resources may be the most difficult to obtain, it might be more prudent to try to obtain those first given a choice, even if they didn't rate the highest, as the 20% food bonuses especially are likely to be in surplus at the end of the event. If we couldn't obtain some on the list by the end of the war, then we could settle for the common versions of the rare priorities, or people could be asked to give 3 preferences in case, and then we would work our way down the list of priorities.

This approach might need a little tweaking to make it workable.
