The 1000 Q6 Food I have on sale at 9999iep was donated to me as Minister of Community by Yddub to be used in the next Community event. If I leave it in my storage, it gets consumed and then I have to buy more to replace it when it comes time to pay out to the winners. Which, since I'm self-sufficient in Food is a pain in the butt.
I notice the other guys you accuse are all senior people in MU's. They are probably using the same device to keep their personal and communal resources separate.
Also...If I had such wealthy multies, where is the benefit in a transaction where I lose 10% or 25% on VAT?

People post food at that price so they do not "auto-eat" that particular level of food. THey want to store the food, but do not wish to consume it. By putting it on the market, they still hold the item, while blocking it from being used.
Maybe the player is holding storage for his MUs food distribution, maybe they are just saving it for a later time.
Likewise with the weapons. Some people don't want to even bother clicking that arrow to the weapon of choice, or they want to fight without weapons. By posting the weapons on the market at an obscene price, they continue to store the weapon without being forced to use it.
Maybe they are holding the weapons for their MU distribution or just saving them for important battles.
Very large prices on the market are a good way to lock away items in your storage. Nobody is going to buy them.

I am holding food for the ILP food scheme and so to prevent me auto eating it I put it on the market. But I don't want to sell it so I put on the market at a price that no right minded person will buy at.
I am also a supplier of q6 weapons for the MoD so maintain an active stock for distribution. But I have my own q6 stock and to segregate them I put my stock on the market again at a price that ensures they don't
