TWO and Ireland - Boru for President.

Day 1,996, 18:37 Published in Ireland Ireland by Brian Boru

IRELAND MUST CONSIDER ITS POSITION
With the complete collapse of Irish diplomatic position under MUFC, placing the country in its worst situation internationally since neutrality was ended, Ireland must now consider its position.

Keeping this aim in mind, the Irish people must now consider what alliance is best for the country going forward.

THE WORLD IS OURS - PERHAPS
It is very interesting to note that all of TWO's main members, and a large part of ACT members, are based in Europe. This grants significant strategic advantages to the alliance.

Compared with CoT, TWO doesn't need to divert strength to countries it has no strategic interest in. This is very important for both military success, and continued diplomatic progress. Furthermore, it doesn't abandon the global scope: through ACT, it can influence other parts of the world with ease, without having to give any real control or say to the countries it is involved with, and the same countries' expectations are managed easily.

TWO's organisation is quite obviously impressive as well. They are able to pull off diplomatic coups like engaging with Columbia despite warring with Columbia's neighbours and allies, and they even have a treasury position that's worth a damn; a key consideration for any long term alliance.

Lastly, TWO have a positive goal that has a path that can be achieved, indeed the path is paved by the mechanics of the game; conquest.

TWO vs CoT: IRELAND'S CHOICE
It is clear from any competent analysis that TWO is the superior alliance. This may change with a move out of Europe in terms of real membership, but it is true at present.

However, we must also apply the ideas of IR and geopolitics to our own situation; our borders mean that we could be of strategic value to either side in terms of position if not in terms of resources. The US is in CoT, the UK is in TWO.

Either way, our choice is not tasteful.

Perhaps it is then better, in the spirit of revolution, to opt for a new approach rather than the old. We share much more in common as a people with TWO countries than the vast majority of CoT countries. They are our fellow Europeans, after all.

It would mean putting aside the issue of Northern Ireland, but we have triumphed repeatedly over the British at this stage, and it is clear that we will never be able to hold NI permanently now; the game mechanics prevent us. This was not true when myself and Padraig founded the Irish Republican movement in eRepublik almost five years ago, but it is now.

As Republicans, it is our duty to maximise the dignity of the Irish Republic in the eyes of the world. Joining a dispersed alliance does not achieve that, even if it does allow us to have NI for brief periods. Alliance may bring us the opportunity for a region swap as well, and national unity may be achieved at last through diplomacy and unity in Europe.

DUTY
As such, I hereby announce that I am in full support, barring any changed circumstances, of Ireland's membership of TWO/ACT.

Furthermore, regardless of whether or not the current President fails to bring negotiations forward to join TWO/ACT, and barring any other changes in circumstance, I intend for the position of President of the Republic on a platform of membership, increased military and economic strength, and dignity for the country.
