Day 510, 07:54 Published in Canada Canada by Ideology

Hello all,

I will be transferring all my congressional platforms articles from my organization's newspaper (New World Capital) to my personal one. They are all posted below.

Greetings my fellow eCanadians,

I am Ideology, a citizen, a soldier, an entrepreneur, and a proud eCanadian. I stand here before you today, to announce my candidature for our country’s congress. Before delving into my plan and some of the details, I would like to first briefly go-over what I envision for the future of eCanada.

eCanada is already a great country in the New World, because we, as a people, have a lot to be proud of. At the same time, however, there is still room for improvement. I want to be part of the movement that sends eCanada into the top ranks of the New World, from a social, military, and political, but most importantly, economic perspective.

A strong economy is the pillar of any successful society; history attests to this fact. A strong economy will also lead to the development of many other things:
-Lower unemployment and a more stable job market
-Greater ability to fund and increase social programs/initiatives
-More efficient exchange of goods between eCanadians and the New World
-Better allocation of capital to the goods eCanada values the most
-Stronger and better-equipped military

I, therefore, will make it my top priority to promote economic growth and put eCanada’s resources to the best use. Encouraging the eCanadian sense of entrepreneurialism, especially among the “boomers”, is the key variable to make this formula a success.

ECONOMY
The modern theory of economics states that if people rationally pursue their own economic interests in a free market, they will exhaust all mutually beneficial opportunities to produce goods and trade with one another. I stand by this argument.

But, what does this actually mean for eCanadians? In more simple terms, economic prosperity comes through a freer exchange of goods. I am proposing TWO main mechanisms to achieve this:

1) Elimination of Protectionist Policies:
eCanada has been blessed with very resourceful lands. We have high levels of grain, oil, diamonds, and wood. However, this pride we take in the abundance of raw materials should not blind our judgment. We need to make eCanada as efficient as possible, and this means cutting import taxes to levels that compare to domestic taxes.

This will support the idea of “efficient capital allocation” as only viable and profitable companies will be left to serve our citizens, which in turn, will purge out all entities that are unnecessary burdens upon society.

To see the (malfunctioning) idea of protectionism at work, one needs to look no further than eCanada’s iron industry: not enough supply and too high prices. This inevitably results in to two things: higher costs for weapons, and a shortage of arms. Both can be extremely detrimental to eCanadians during times of war

To summarize, protectionism leads to the “survival of the unfit”. This makes no logical or economic sense!

2) More eCanadian Investment Capital:
I am proposing a move towards a more “hands-on” approach to eCanada’s economy. By directly providing investment capital, we can benefit in two ways: increasing the productive potential of this great nation, and, increasing the efficient allocation of eCanadian capital.

This will not only make us, as a nation, more prosperous but will also push us to the forefront of the global economy. We need to remember that power does not only come in military might, but also in economic prosperity.

The current government has already set up a national bank, and will be providing debt capital to businesses. I am proposing another “sister” organization to provide businesses (both startups and already established) with equity capital: a new investment model based on profit-sharing.*

Finally, I fully support the idea of transparency and accountability. I believe that if the citizens of a country cannot trust its government, the country is destined to fail.

To conclude, I am confident that I can contribute to eCanada in a very positive way. I am also confident that you, as a vital citizen of eCanada, will use your rationality when making the decision to vote.

If anyone has any questions on my ideas, or would just like to have a little chat, please feel free to PM me.

Sincerely,
-Ideology

Greetings my fellow eCanadians,

If this is your first time reading my articles for the March 2009 Congressional platform, then please click here.

I’ve received some criticism the past few days on some of my ideas and proposed policies. Listed below are certain questions or concerns that have been raised, plus, some of my own thoughts that will be give my readers some more insight into what I propose.

1) Why are you part of the CEP when you're so focused on the economy?
Probably the best question that has been asked. I believe in a stronger eCanada and I share the CEP’s vision of our country becoming a superpower. But, as I have said before, power does not only come through military might, but also through economic strength. I believe I can bring a nice balance to the CEP. And, in the end, its about how well you can serve you’re country, regardless of your party.

2) Why do you want to lower import taxes? Won't this hurt our economy by bringing in foreign competition?
I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but lowering taxes (both domestic and import) will be better for all eCanadians! Read the following example and you’ll see what I mean.

Microeconomics 101 says: if your country is good at making cars, and another country is good at making clothes, than the most efficient form of wealth creation is to trade your cars for their clothes, instead of trying to produce your own clothes. If you do try to make clothes, you will be taking capital and labour away from the car-manufacturing industry, which is where all your efforts need to be put.

This is great news for eCanada as a whole because, like I’ve said before, we have an abundance of raw materials. In the short-term, it might take some adjusting, but the long-term will look very promising as eCanada moves towards a more efficient use of its resources.

3) What happens when a country we trade with becomes hostel and stops exporting their products to us?
Again, I would like to point you to our fruitful lands full of grain, oil, diamonds and wood. We easily have the upper hand in terms of world trade.

4) In one sentence, explain to me why I should vote for you.
I will bring a fresh set of ideas to grow the eCanadian economy.

And finally, I would just like to announce, I have been named eCanada's Economic Emissary to ATLANTIS. A big responsibility that I am more than willing to take on. Thank you to Alexander Rearden and Bruck for approving of this.

If anyone has any questions on my ideas, or would just like to have a little chat, please feel free to PM me.

Hello eCanadians,

With elections so close, I've decided to post one last article. This one will be short and sweet, as I believe I have made clear where I stand through my previous postings.

First, I would like to applaud all the people who will be running for congress at the next elections (now under 24 hours way). As I found out, this is no easy task. Godspeed to all of you!

Second, I need to mention that I do not think my ideas are perfect. As has been pointed out in the past week, some of my proposals need to be tweaked. I fully accept and welcome this criticism because I find much benefit in hearing YOUR questions and concerns. Please keep them coming.

Lastly, this race has been a great experience. I've learned a lot about about myself and where I fit into eCanada's complex political fabric. With this new knowledge, I would definitely like to see myself making a difference that all eCanadians will be appreciate.

I'll leave you all with this: Vote for Ideology to see a better and stronger eCanada!

Note: To all residents of Yukon who had previously voted for Volsung, I am pleased to say I have won his support for this election as he will not be running again.

Thank you,
Ideology
