Traitors in eMerica

To begin it is necessary to define the term "traitor":
Basically it is a person that changes to the enemy's side, gives away information to the enemy that would affect the war effort, gives comfort and support to the enemy or in any way provides actual assistance to the enemy's efforts.
If you want to get extreme by this definition we could declare both the "hawk faction" and the "dove faction" as traitorous.
The "doves" want the fighting to stop. Not fighting the enemy allows them to win. That could be considered traitorous by those who see "winning" as patriotic.
Conversely the "hawks" want to continue the fighting. It can be said that the fighting is draining the national coffers and hurting the economy. A weak economy makes us more susceptible to future attack and thus aids our enemies.
But has anyone actually provided the enemy with substanence? Has anyone given away military secrets? The answer is "no".
Hawks believe their war efforts are patriotic. Doves feel that their anti-war stance is patriotic. Who can say what is and what is not? It all depends on the type of government one wants.
I have read people say that the USWP should be forced to leave our "land of the free". What a load of crap! If you can push out a political party because of its platform then this is not a land of the free. We might as well surrender to those totalitarian parties that want to control every facet of our lives.
A quote attributed to Voltaire (oddly enough a Frenchman) says, "I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write."
To those eMericans that would declare all USWP members as traitors: a bane on you!
To those that would declare those in favor of the war as traitors: a bane on you!
Both groups shame what eMerican is supposed to represent.
But I have noticed the large number of off-topic comments in every article pushing one party or the others. This makes me think this is a typical "dirty trick" reminiscent of President Richard Nixon. It pushes the attention off what is happening and what has happened and creates a straw man for which to attack.
eMerica may have traitors but they are individuals. They are not parties. It is stupid to generalize such a declaration as all USWP members are traitors; or all blonds are stupid; or all.....get it?
Then stop it.

As always, very nice article Moishe. It offered an unbiased stance on a very hot topic that is plagued with bias, as you have pointed out.
@Benn: No, I meant that doves (who are against war) believe that their anti-war position is patriotic. Those "so-called" hippies of the Sixties that protested America's involvement in Vietnam felt they were as America-loving as anybody else. They just had a different POV.

If USWP coordinated with the French for anti-war propaganda to sabotage the war effort then yes that's traitorous. I support every eMericans right to dissent and voice their opposition, but working with the enemy against us is too much.
Further, the fact that they continued to proclaim blatantly false statements about war-fighting instead of assisting the citizenry in understanding how they could fight intelligently in support of the country is, if not treasonous, then at least less than supportive of your own citizens.

You said, "If USWP coordinated with...." That, sir, should delineate the balance of the conversation. An accusation of treason is slanderous without evidence. The statements I have read have stated "ALL USWP members.....". I, sir, am a USWP member and I have never acted in a treasonous manner. I resent the generalized implication and wish there was a method of suing for such statements. At least I should receive an apology as should all other members who have not acted in a treasonous manner.
Now why should someone who opposes the fighting act in a manner that shows others how to fight better? For argument's sake let us suppose that murder was legal but a few denounced it. Should they, because the majority accept it, agree to teach them how to murder better?
BTW I fight at least once per day when the opportunity is available. I provide my own weapons, my own gifting if needed, and my own travel tickets. I have not spoken out against the war. Neither have I verbally supported it. However I do support other USWP platforms. Not all of its members support every plank.

Outstanding article Moishe! As a semi-newbie and a member of USWP, I am quite stunned that the Land of the eFree has degenerated into totalitarianism. The propoganda currently being promulgated by our president against USWP resonates nauseatingly close to Germany circa 1938 and America circa 2003. I think of the words of Jesus, and paraphrased by Lincoln: A house divided against itself cannot stand.
Is this the foundation of eMerica? I work fifty days in a row, fight the French when I can, train every day to be a better eMerican...so that I can be called a traitor for the effort?
I am running for congress in the upcoming election in Oregon, but now I am doomed to lose because the president I voted for has decided to brand me a traitor for choosing to join the only party that has given a d*** about my success in eRepublik.
The issue here is engagement in the process, growth of citizens, wise management of resources and dedication to the cause of eMerica...dove and hawk alike certainly can see that there are opportunities for improvement in all of these areas.
A house divided cannot stand...wise words to heed. End the rhetoric of division...words have power...both to build and to destroy.

This article is the best about this subject that I have read yet. You are exactly right when you say that people extremely for and extremely against the war are equally patriotic or un-patriotic, depending on how you look at it. Furthermore, I think it is foolish for anyone to label an entire political party traitors because of the words of a small group, especially if that group didn't actually DO anything to help the enemy. Brilliant article Moishe, you just gained a subscriber.

A public voice against the war is one thing, coordinating anti-war efforts with the enemy is entirely another and traitorous.
@Xygatrix: Voltaire preceeds Thomas Jefferson by about a half century. If you will do a Google search for the exact quote I provided you may inform the hundreds of historians that disagree with you of their error.
While Jefferson may have said something similar that does not preclude the accuracy of my contribution.

While I do consider myself a "hawk" and I do disapprove of the USWP speaking with the French President about issues, because i see it as disrespectful to the eUSA, and to our current president. I agree with most everything you've written.

@Mystery Johnson: The USWP did not speak with anybody. If anyone did it was individuals from it. There is no political party either in the eVerse or in RL which has 100% of its members supporting 100% of its platforms. Every political group is a synthesis of the opinions of its members.

I totally agree with you! I'm a USWP member and I never considered treason. I love this country, even if I don't always like what our country does, that doesn't mean I find the people who does it are traitors!
This is a free country and everyone is free to have his own opinion. Someone isn't a traitor just because he say he doesn't agree with what our country is doing...

We must help Big Brother in his battle for Italian-speaking area he need our help and we should march as their allies so that one day if we are losing a war and our free land has been taken from us, in desperate times we will know that we will have another friend to call upon for help.
