I cannot stand idly by and keep my thoughts to myself. I cannot and I shall not. I am speaking of the USWP as traitors controversy. Simply, they are not. Those that proclaim otherwise are serving their own selfish purposes. I am tired of the immature proclamations of treason and the replies of freedom of speech. The very nature of this faux controversy, very much draws a line in the sand. The sort of line that says either you're with us or you're against us. And I refuse to choose because of some hyperbolic vitriol. The whole situation has seen angry words fly between prominent Americans that believe themselves to be right, but many have spoken without regard for their country. They have chosen to pick fights with fellow Americans instead of focusing on leadership--military or political.
I cannot put my thoughts more perfectly than Mark Twain already has:
“Each of you, for himself, by himself and on his own responsibility, must speak. And it is a solemn and weighty responsibility, and not lightly to be flung aside at the bullying of pulpit, press, government, or the empty catchphrases of politicians. Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your convictions is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let man label you as they may. If you alone of all the nation shall decide one way, and that way be the right way according to your convictions of the right, you have done your duty by yourself and by your country- hold up your head! You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
The first and only article one should read on the controversy is by Moishe. It puts the whole series of events into context. For me, I will continue to follow the Golden Rule. I encourage others to do the same.

We have to understand the concept of "unification". We cannot be asked to lay down those beliefs we find fundamental and replace them with the views of others and call that 'unification'. We must - instead - find those FEW things that the eUSA must be, and be unified on THOSE THINGS, being willing to allow differences - sometimes radical - in all areas not deemed fundamental.
Sadly, most view 'unity' to be "everyone agrees with all of the way I want to do something".

Freedom of Opinion
I hope we can unite on those things. I do agree that the concept of unification is not uniting in opinion so much as uniting in purpose, and that purpose should be the betterment of the eWorld for our fellow eCitizens
I enjoyed this article and agree that the ploy of branding the USWP as 'traitors' has been a tactic of extreme propaganda. It seems to have backfired, however. Thank god we have a populace who can see through this kind of tactic, if not in RL then at least here.
