To the admins: FIX THE API!

Dear Citizens of eRepublik,

I come to you today with something that affects everyone in this game, from the humblest of new players, to military commanders across the world and to technogeeks who spend hours developing external tools. I come to you with the intention of trying to reach the admin's ears about the eRepublik API which has been abandoned!

As you may or may not know, the API (Application Programming Interface) is a feature that lets people take information from within the game and display it on external websites. By using your ID, you can pull up all your citizen information. By using a region ID, you can pull up all the regions information. By using a battle ID you can pull up battle information. The list goes on!

The API is a fundamental tool for developers who produce things such as market tools, company tools, mass mailers, citizen finders, and statistic viewers. It is also a tool used by countries such as USA, United Kingdom, France and many others to power their government websites, military websites, and much more. It is a tool that some communities have grown dependant on and cannot work without!

The last few days, the API has been broken. Not all of it, but one important part: the citizen feeds. This is where we get all your information from. It is a simple error, that will take barely minutes to fix! But no. eRepublik has decided that "the api project is on hold for an indefinite period of time". This comes from a worker of eRepublik himself, and is the official response.

This is UNACCEPTABLE! The API is an important part of the game for many of us, and is something that should be maintained and improved. I admit it might not be the highest priority, but it is still important. Myself and others have spent a lot of time coding projects that are now wasted due to this, and we are not happy. And neither are our users.

Therefore I ask you to sign this topic, or vote this article depending on what you are reading. I want you to show support as a group and stand with me as you say to the developers of eRepublik: WE WANT THE API FIXED!

I say this to the administrators: I am willing to donate my time to fixing the API. I am willing to volunteer my services, free of charge, to maintaining and developing the API. Coding is one of the main reasons I still play this game now, and I am more than happy to do it.

Actually, the official response was that they would try to keep the OAuth and citizen feeds running, but would probably shut most of the rest of it down while they tried to improve it.

But hey, keep on doing your thing. : 3

Dishmcds, actually, an admin personally told me this less than an hour ago. The admin who actually does the API as well I might add?

True or not, let's not cause arguments. This is for fixing the API!

As I said, let's not bring this into an argument. We've been told different things, let's wait for the next official response.

I said that as well, a few months ago, and a few days ago again... The problem is that to develop/fix the API, you need access to the live DB, which contains a lot of private info (credentials, login stats, ...). Unless you're bound by some official contract, there is no way you will get access to that.

Bandigarf, you don't really need access. As long as they tell you the structure, after they take out the confidential information, it is still possible to do.
