To Impeach or not to Impeach?
Daks
😁^Oh come on you guys are seriously debating this....
😁^
To Impeach or not to Impeach?
Keep In mind we haven't lost anything of importance yet. And the same thing happened with president Benn, in France.
If you Impeach Uncle Sam who do you think will take over? Scrabman perhaps? Let's say Scrabman does become president in place of Uncle Sam. But we still give back all the Mexican territories, just like we always planned to. Then what? Did we actually accomplish anything other than Impeaching him, did we solve anything, did we fix anything, what? Is he going to fix anything? Is he going to solve any problems our current president can't? (By he I mean the person who would replace Uncle Sam if he were Impeached.)
No matter who is president that doesn't push aside the real issues. Our military.
They are under funded and they aren't communicating effectively. If we were to put as much effort into organizing and funding our military as we are into calling and debating for Impeachment; we would be having this discussion? Hell I think we would have taken all of Mexico with proper organization and funding.
Impeaching the president doesn't solve a damn thing. It doesn't right any wrongs; the losses that we suffered were at the hands of a Hulk of an enemy. There isn't much we can do about that. However, can we blame a President for the actions of other Nations; no. I know the war may have been disorganized, but that's because our methods of communication aren't the way they should be also because our military isn't our top priority; which, it should be and stay there until we have it right.
He paid our allies to right a wrong and you blame him for keeping the integrity of our nation amongst it's friends and allies. We should have paid it because it was the right thing to do; our allied nations would rather not have pay, so why did we pay; because some minority, really just 2, were outraged for our invasion of Mexico. We invaded with the majority of our nation supporting that action knowing that it would not bode well around the world, and now the same majority seems to want to impeach him. I hate trough this word around but is Uncle Sam a traitor? Did he sell our country out? Did he do anything wrong? No. He did his patriotic duty to serve his people. And now you want to lynch him? For shame.
All that you have to evict him on, is that he keeps secrets. Hell everyone has secrets, just because he is in public office, doesn't mean he has to guide you through like a child with everything he does. If he did you would shout at him "Enough Already God Damn It, Come On!" People, I ask you Think this out!
We didn't Impeach President Benn Dover for the losses in France did we. Or President a Justinious for the losses in Portugal.
Don't Impeach President Unlce Sam.

While I profoundly disagree with your conclusion, as always, it is a pleasure to hear your well-articulated viewpoint Daks. Voted, already a subscriber.
I respectfully disagree.
I appreciate that Uncle Sam did his best. There was no malice in anything he did. And yes, everyone does make mistakes. But:
1) We were told we were going to war variously to get territories for war games, or to oust the Poles. Within a week, this changed to wiping Mexico off the map.
2) The possibility of having to pay the ATLANTIS fines was discussed in Congressional threads, then dismissed. When we got called on it, Sam unilaterally made the decision to pay the UK 100 gold of US tax money, basically as a bribe to get them to sign an MPP with us. In spite of overwhelming public opinion against paying. I still haven't seen a UK-US MPP proposed in either Congress or Parliament.
3) Attacking Southeast Mexico and exposing us to Portugal and its' eight allies was an inexcusable blunder. Given the fact that we proposed peace with Portugal a few days ago, and they refused, they clearly signaled their intent.
4) Command and control broke down utterly. USNG soldiers had little or no guidance about who or where to fight. Oaxaca is a classic example. Platoon leaders haven't received orders for days. We're making it up as we go along now.
5) We started a major war without the weapons industry to fight an extended war. All except the very rich are fighting barehanded now.
6) I understand the "continuity, stay the course, be loyal argument". But I haven't seen any proposal from Sam about how to fix this. All I see is a bunker mentality. We can't afford another few weeks of this. We need new leadership. We need at least SOME leadership.
I respect his service. I know he meant well. I'm sure this is personally painful to Uncle Sam, and I'm sorry about that. But I have to think of my country now.
No confidence. Impeach.
"And we still give back all the Mexican territories, just like we always planned to." --> check Uncle's article
However, you are right, impeachment solves nothing in this case.
"a bribe to get them to sign an MPP with us"
I highly doubt that they were bribes.
"I haven't seen any proposal from Sam about how to fix this."
I don't see any coming from Congress either. But then again they hide their forums from regular US citizens, I know "security" reason(same thing Sam does) but at least they can do is tell use what they want to do. Besides Sam WILL need Congressional support, every president does.
"We need new leadership. We need at least SOME leadership."
Then what the hell is Congress for just taxes and dividing the country. Just because we have a president doesn't mean congress can't have it's fair share of leadership.
As for some of your other points.
Southeast was a blunder in retrospect but I didn't hear anyone saying so during the battle.
National Gard is the most populace of the military branch and most inactive officers happen to be in NG , so do congressmen. NG has to be reorganized, but it is hardly Sam's fault, personal choices can effect the outcome of any battle. But getting NG organized is his responsibility.
I have always made the case that impeachment is a valid constitutional prerogative of Congress. If a supermajority decide that they have lost faith in Sam's ability to govern, (a compelling case can be made looking at six weeks of evidence), then they should feel obliged to vote that way.
Sam is not merely our commander-in-chief but also our general-in-chief. Despite the admirable work of our military command (and unlike a RL-president), the decision of whom, where, when, and how to attack is ultimately the president's alone. The military command, in effect, serves only a logistical and coordinating role.
So consider the vote carefully. If the motion fails to pass, I will be the first to put the discussion aside and move on. But the Congress should not be shamed for exercising their right to challenge the president and hold him accountable.
Congress is just as Accountable. They wanted as War he gave them a war. Instead of blaming a 'scape goat' take charge of what matters. Who's going to stop them?
Great article, thanks for the comment on mine as well.
Right, they are accountable for letting Uncle Sam have free reign. Now they are going to correct that mistake. They would be negligent to just let this go. Congress needs to set a precedent that says they will not allow this kind of behavior to go unpunished. Uncle Sam should be removed not because he honored the treaty terms. In fact, I think he was mostly right in doing that. We really need to preserve strong relations with our allies especially with PEACE and the theocrats closing in on America. He made a pretty decent decision and got several of those countries to agree to pay us back as a sign of mutual respect. Well done.
However, he did not enter into discussion with congress or even ask their opinion before taking this action. Now the ball is in congress's court. If they simply let that go, among all the other things he has failed to properly discuss with them (keep in mind, they are the ones funding his actions! they are responsible for making sure there is hell to pay if there is the slightest evidence those funds were not used properly.), then they are endorsing his actions. They must act in a manner that shows they are not willing to let this go unpunished. This is due diligence on the part of congress, even if the measure fails.
@Jon Hey, I like strangling the enemy.
Anyways, wouldn't Bush be impeached if the thing that we're doing to Uncle Sam happened to him? The fact is that, we wanted all of Mexico, and I still do. So what if we loss and have enemies on the border? It shows that we're unable to fight for long periods of time and need reform.
What a compelling argument, Daks.
"And we still give back all the Mexican territories, just like we always planned to."
See, I just can't believe that. I'm sure we would have kept EVERY territory had we been able to, but Portugal helps out their comrades and we act like we never wanted the territories.
I think to improve their army the USA could send people to other military forces
like the eUKs or send some to Mexico so they can learn from people who beat them(if Mexico agree)
The fact he paod the fine is enough for me. Impeach.
@Killing Time - There's nothing I can do to change your mind if there is no debatable reason behind your motives.
I agree with you nearly completely. I think an organized military is a hugely important asset that we must fund and manage appropriately and that just hasn't been done. Paying the fine to the alliance was the exact right move and anyone that criticizes him for it is not looking at the long term. The alliance rules must be respected.
I think impeachment goes too far and causes too much chaos in the government itself. Uncle Sam is perfectly capable of fixing the issues at hand, its just a matter of him actually doing it. Maybe he can, maybe he cant. I honestly dont have much faith, but I'm willing to see it through.
If worst comes to worst, the next president will clean up his mess in a few weeks. If that's the case, I hope we don't lose too much by his incompetence.
Impeach. I hate being humiliated in front of the whole world. I cannot forgive.
