This previous Friday was the day that the congressmen for the new term were elected. Coming up to the election there was a lot of heated arguments between party and articles encouraging people to vote one way or the other. In the end CPF and RW tied for first with 12 seats each, PFC third with 9 seats, IP with 5, and BAL with 2. There was a total of 164 votes cast.

Updating from last week, our war with eIreland will be continuing. We will also be continuing our war with eUK. The reason for this war was a lot of foreign politics with eIreland, and now we will take up arms to defend our country.

EDIT: Peace with eIreland has been proposed after the article was released and CP Exalted Druid said that we would go for UK and head into Europe.

Since there’s seemingly less and less content to write about each week, I’m going to put in an extra category this week. I will tell you the story of “This Week In”:

It all started when I rejoined eRepublik about 4 months ago. I noticed that as I was sifting through articles that a lot of my time was being wasted by irrelevant articles. I thought this was only my problem until I noticed some others complaining about the lack of relevancy in the media, and I don’t like wasting my time. So, I decided that there was a problem, and I made it my personal goal to fix the problem. I thought to myself; What if there were an article each week that sifted through all of the other articles and forums to bring us relevant content? I decided to wait a little bit and see what might happen and become more active. Either way, there are people who write better and are more involved than me anyways.

August rolls around and I still saw nothing, and was still wasting my time reading all of the articles. It was making me frustrated for two reasons. One, these articles could be so useful and entertaining if I knew the background, and I didn’t get the jokes or references to current events. Two, it was time consuming and I’d rather be doing other things than reading articles I have to have taken an eRep history course to understand. I realized then that my time looking into the background and context of these articles had not been a waste of time, and that these articles don’t have to be a waste of time for anyone else either. If I was to make a series that explains what happened each week to those who don’t scour the forums and media very often explaining the events simply, then I could make all articles useful to me, and provide a relevant series to everyone else. I had plenty of time to spare anyways, and it would be better to do this than to waste it. Either way, I needed to practice my writing skills and get myself back into politics somehow.

I published the announcement and was quite overwhelmed with the support I was given. I expected maybe 2 or 3 people to support the idea and a lot of other criticisms and accusations of helping the lazy. Instead of that, I had multiple people telling me to do it, and endorsing me. The first article went up and I got more support than I’ve ever gotten before from eRepublik and felt like I was on top of the world! I found some cool resources for headers and graphs etc which I still use even to this day.

Unfortunately, that was kind of a honeymoon phase for me, as my effort being put into the articles was slowly dying off, which resulted in less support which I got discouraged at and blamed everyone else (Sorry!). Suddenly the series went from feeling like a fun side hobby to feeling like a job. I lost motivation and wasn’t releasing very good content. I got elected into congress and found a new place to put my effort, taking even more away from “This Week In”.

After a little while things started heating up again between my party and CPF, and I noticed a lot of those little-context articles I was talking about earlier. I got this sudden motivation because everything I had complained about could be fixed, and it was up to me to fix it. That week I started seeking out content instead of letting it come to me, and the next week I had 8 entire categories, even having to cut some out because the article was getting too long. Suddenly all the support came back overwhelmingly (as to be expected. more effort, more return). Since then I’ve been quite motivated to continue writing and working hard, and learned that support follows effort, not ideas. I decided that the only way to get more content was to make more things happen. That’s part of the reason why I am starting the IRC Activity Program, in the hopes that some things will happen or start from those discussions that wouldn’t have otherwise come about. Anyways, I’ve now written nearly an entire novel worth in this story and don’t want to keep the focus on myself but on relevant news.

Alright that concludes this week’s article. The IRC program this week will happen this Thursday evening at 20:15 eRep time. Pre-program starts at 20:00. Be there for giveaways and good talks.
