This Month

Day 1,567, 12:09 Published in Austria Hungary by m0bra

Austria finds itself in the midst of challenging times. Wars no longer simply occur around us - increasingly they reach our borders, and we find ourselves playing an integral part of conflicts. We have the potential to help our allies, and in the end, help ourselves, if we pursue the correct path.

This path exists not only in our actions when dealing with others, but also when dealing with those at home. Austria is at its strongest when there is room for healthy discussion, inside and outside the government. By being open and providing updates, the public can discuss, and make their opinions on issues in an informed way. And by including those with opposing viewpoints, a cabinet can more fully consider issues before any decision is made.

If elected President of Austria, this is the cabinet I would choose.

In real life, Austria does not have a figure who is both head of state, and head of government. The President serves as head of state, while the Prime Minister - Bundeskanzler - serves as head of government. This division of power is one I want to implement in my cabinet, dividing some powers and responsibilities. Vreath has proven again to be a good leader in this past month, serving on short notice in the important role of getting the government back on its feet after a PTO. Therefore, I select him for the position of Prime Minister.

As the lead minister, he would have a large duty in dealing with the other ministers and making sure the cabinet is running in an effective way. Among these other ministers would be the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Finance, Immigration, Communication, and Faith.

Foreign Affairs

This month, it is a goal to revitalize the ambassador program in Austria, and re-open embassies in foreign nations forums with updated information about our nation. This task goes along with the standard mission in foreign affairs, which is to represent Austria diplomatically to the world, and to keep up communication with our friends and allies - effectively coordinating with them both in peace and war. Perhaps more than ever, coordination with our neighboring allies - Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia - has the chance to play a key role in the world war. I select Rangeley for the position of MoFA, Schwrzwolf as Vice Minister, and Balkan Beast as Director of Embassies.

Defense

Directly related to foreign affairs is the issue of defense. Austria is not in a bubble - our nation’s strategic situation is directly tied to the nations around us. While diplomacy is the job of the MoFA, the MoD handles the Österreichs Bundesheer. This job entails crafting battle strategy, as well as logistics during battles - supplying those who fight for Austria. For the job of MoD, I select Luis Grindl, a tested and proven military leader. Killer.D and szekely ostor will aid him as Vice Ministers.

Finances

Necessary for logistics is, of course, the funding behind it - a task handled by the Ministry of Finance. Along with the funding of military operations, the proper use of our resources allows us to fund all other projects undertaken by the government. While it is traditional in many countries to give the President access to the national bank, Austria’s tradition keeps this separate from the President, placing it in the hands of a trusted and typically longstanding Minister of Finance. Erdoni has performed superbly in this role, and will continue in my cabinet. To help him will be Gazonkfoo as his Vice Minister.

Immigration

The Ministry of Immigration is tasked with an important job of growing Austria. While many know that it handles “in game immigration” - citizenship applications - it also has the important job of growing Austria from out of game sources as well. There is a unique opportunity to play a part in the story of Austria today. It is important to continue outreach for this purpose. For this task, I select LarsUlrich87 as Minister of Immigration.

Communication, Education

The task of keeping the public informed is an important one, which has two main aspects. One is information for new players who have just joined. eRepublik can present a challenge at first, and to help them will be our long serving Minister of Education, OEBernd. For players who have been here longer, more information is needed than simply game mechanics. The Ministry of Communication is tasked with keeping the public informed - although each ministry is also encouraged to provide updates as well. To lead this ministry, I select both darkyat and prasi to be Ministers of Communication.

Election

It is important for us not to forget that a PTO threat continues in this nation. Its a good accomplishment to have a government that is led by the community, and to have pushed this PTO out of the presidency. But we should not accept this as being “good enough.” The true test of a government is not simply whether it is “not bad,” but whether it does a good job in the tasks put before it.

I believe that the team assembled is up for this task. I ask for your vote on election day, and look forward to the month ahead.
