This Is Sparta: Project Lambda (Irish Reform Programme)
Brian Boru
In light of the growing military threat to Ireland, it is necessary to advocate a radical reform plan to address it. Reliance on Ireland's market is a failure, crippling production and supply of war materials with massive expense.
As such, Ireland needs to base itself on the mechanics of war.
Ireland must become the new Sparta.
What steps to take?
1. A build up of gold.
In order to set up a country capable of fighting effectively on a regular basis, gold will be needed to put the institutions in place. Companies and orgs are not free.
2. Identify productive and cooperative companies, and make agreements with them.
The private sector that currently services the Irish market will instead be put towards exploiting foreign markets. Selected companies will be supported by the state with large numbers of export licenses and state-supported workers, in return for taxation. This will free our companies from the problems of the domestic market, allow them to undercut foreign companies in their own markets and still make profits from countries with high importation taxes.
3. The set-up of an extensive state company system to service the Irish domestic market.
Workers shall be placed according to productivity, with the weapons sector having priority.
All Irish workers shall receive food and weapons in return for working, the destructive effects of labour competition between companies shall end. The rest of the products shall be stockpiled for use in war or to boost exports. This will allow Ireland to have the lowest wages in the eWorld, and so the cheapest military machine, all with workers receiving more products than if they had worked for wages.
4. Massive taxation increase.
If companies refuse to cooperate, then the state can use a massive taxation increase to insure that they don't undermine the country's might. Taxes will be returned to cooperative companies should these measures be put in place, minus the normal amount of tax.
This plan puts the country in a position of strength.
Workers receive what they need, and can rank up much more quickly.
Companies receive the backing of the state to use the world as a market, and low wages.
The state gains the production capabilities of the entire country for use in war.
I call on all parties to support this as the future for Ireland.
The country needs to coordinate its military and economic efforts if we are ever to punch above our weight on the world stage.

Radical, but radical is needed now...
Half life is a pretty cool guy.
Nice ideas!
everyone should subcribe to every irish newspaper so that more people get media mougal medal
I like the ideas, but I think its impossible to implement. Would be happy if proven wrong though
"5. Find a Worthy National Figurehead
The country needs to be associated with not only greatness, intelligence, and will-power, but beauty as well. As we already have these aforementioned qualities, beauty is somehow excluded! Never fear: the Irish Princess is the most beautiful in all the eLand. She will do just fine as the official Princess of eIre."
Oh! BB! I'm so happy you changed your mind about the Constitution. Yes, your plan is radical, but it's really important that we get ourselves ready! The Princess will gladly accept your offer 🙂
This idea looks interesting Brian.
As a supplementary explanation could you post a short life cycle of a product? For example, the stages a Q1 weapon goes through from RM to use.
"Companies receive the backing of the state to use the world as a market, and low wages"
Liked mosst of it, but low wage?
thats not what we are about... i smell a bit of state capitalism.
I can see the value here, with ePoland, eUS and the others gobbling up smaller countries, we will eventually need a very strong defensive/offensive nation to stand a chance, I am for it.
P.S. Digging the caution sign as well
Mr.Ginge, low wages would not mean that citizens suffer, in fact they can be supplied with everything they need for less. Ireland needs to shift its mindset towards military. We need to primarily "breed" warriors from "birth". This plan allows for that. I was told by an eUK citizen that our "country has the strength of liquorice whip" Let us change that, and our reputation as a weakling in the eyes of others.
For 4 to work, let's hope the company owner doesn't know erepublik too well 😉
Interesting idea Brian and would be a nice movement for Ireland for the future.
Good ideas. Hard to implement though
Good ideas although it doesn't feel humane in a way...
It will be fairly in-humane when we get crushed because we did not take the necessary measures to equip ourselves militarily to the absolute fullest of our potential.
Princess, if you support these reforms, I'll have no problem declaring the First Irish Empire, i.e. declaring you the princess.
Nephworks, this is the first in a series of articles explaining Project Lambda.
Ginge, the workers will be getting more products than their wages were previously worth. It's designed to empower every citizen by making them a valuable military and economic asset to the state.
Sean, companies can't avoid VAT effectively, nor can they avoid importation taxes suddenly disappearing. Besides, companies have no reason to resist, they will receive significantly lower overheads and new large markets to exploit.
Eoin, I am utterly ruthless in my approach, deliberately.
No person involved in this reform plan has any reason to resist, all parties involved receive clear benefits. Resistance without reason in this case would be unpatriotic and cowardly.
I'm with you on 4 diffinatly
We need to raise VAT to at least 20% to have funds available for mass MPP agreements and additional IDF funding we can't sustain peacetime tax rates in a wartime economy.
It's best to have money in the piggy bank for the War we need to sustain us in future
Excellent work BB. Fully supported, and I indeed to rally for this cause.
This is basically how the Theocrats ran eSK, but it kinda fell apart. People grew weary of dwindling personal freedom in exchange for a more dominant and encompassing central government, as well. This seems like a communist regime to a military end, really. It could be strong, could be a vast failure.
However, the fact that you just claimed in a comment that its unpatriotic to disagree with your plan, and that you seem to be bribing the Princess for her support, takes a little credibility from it, in my opinion. Regardless, I'm interested in reading more.
I do not think he was bribing anyone, more like friendly banter.
Any type of regime to a military end is a good thing in erep.
When he says unpatriotic, I think it is meant in the sense that right mow Ireland needs reform, and to resist ideas that provide these reforms would be to cut off your nose to spite your face.
And on the "dwindling personal freedoms" point of view, Ireland is a weakling militarily, so any type of freedoms will not exist for the eIrish should we be attacked.
Fair enough BB.
My main aim is to end the private economy of Ireland that is leading to such poor results economically and I feel this would be a great way to start. Anyone who knows a little about Modern Russian history should be aware of the huge successes of Lenin's War Communism policy when considering this, i feel that the strategy is similar and can help in securing Ireland's military success in the future.

eSouth Korea doesn't have a real national identity, nor do the Theocrats generally. Our Irishness is the glue that will hold this together.
The only personal freedom that is restricted is the right to operate a domestic market business. Trading that off for more military might and a larger international economic profile is well worth it.
Myself and the Princess have been having banter about declaring her the monarch for a while now....
Good ideas Brian, but I think Bradums is right.
Why will people want to play in eIreland when all they can do is sit and wait for the governments handouts.
Hypothetically your system will make Ireland strong, in reality it will cripple it with even more inactivity and boredom 🙁
Dubh, they do the same thing practically in a normal eRepublik economy anyway. They click a few buttons.
This plan isn't going to alter the social element of the game one iota..
In fact, by giving people the products necessary to fight regularly, it could very well increase activity. After all, I seriously doubt people play to work. They play to manage companies, engage in military activity or play politics.
All three are still there in, and are augmented by, this plan.
...And the right to run a domestic market business is not worth having if you can't turn a profit on it.
\o
Such fascism. But I like it!
"And the right to run a domestic market business is not worth having if you can't turn a profit on it."
It's a rat race and a half turning a profit in Ireland's domestic market at the moment. Our market is too small.
We need to direct our excess productivity into three areas.
1. Stockpiles for the military and citizens.
2. Exports.
3. Undeveloped sectors of the economy needed for V2.
Guys in case you are wondering he is advocating Communism and he is a big communist himself. Oh well, sure why not
Patton, state-support for companies exporting is not communism.
Patton, this is not communism.
If it works, I don't care what you call it.
No to Centralization!!

+1
Eoin- It will only be hard to implement if a few try and do it. We need to all help out.
This is a wonderful plan that will make eIreland much more efficient.
Bradums- How much personal freedom does erepublik allow any ways?
This seems really reasonable. I like it. 🙂
verbal diarrhea
Another thrilling novel by the one and only James Campbell :/
Good plan Brian, I'm on board.
Its also important to note that if you want to produce all domestic goods with state companies, you're better off starting raw material state companies in other countries with high production regions. A while ago we had a discussion about it, and its a waste of efficiency to try to produce raw materials domestically. Double up on manufacturing instead and it'll save money and increase our export potential.
We have raw materials companies abroad due since my term as Minister for Finance in August 09.

Dont bring this shambles up again
One mistake is not a shambles.
>.<
Hah, this is indeed a veiled communistic approach, and extremely authoritarian, which essentially strips the worker of his choice. You advocate stripping workers of choice???
Good one. I still love your style, Boru.
This is not a very communist policy!
It is in fact an idea which is supportive of state capitalism!
Kolshire, this is the preliminary article, I haven't fully explained the Project yet.
Who said anything about stripping workers of choice?
I said that food and weapons would be distributed, that doesn't imply anything about removing choice.
Though I laugh at the idea that a choice between four products is worth it 😛
Nice Idea. But it seems like it could be something that falls apart very easily. A lot of bureaucracy will have to set up too. Google Spreadsheets will be getting a ton of activity from the eIrish government.
This is definitely the way Ireland needs to go.
I like this idea. Ireland's economy is in the toilet and you've actually managed to explain, in simple terms, how a communist economy can be integrated into a capitalist game. I'm proud to have approved your citizenship. You've actually got a plan... which is much more than can be said for the vast majority of Ireland.
@ Bradums
It fell apart in eSK because South Koreans grew weary of being steered to and fro by a nomadic entity. It could work in Ireland, however, because most Irish are severely loyal and patriotic. If it's managed well it could succeed beyond measure.
For the first time ever, I agree with everything Longbaugh said.
You are the King Longbaugh 😛
