They said it couldn't be done!

Day 871, 20:11 Published in Belgium Belgium by Kylero

My fellow eBelgians,

Tonight is a good night for the future of our democracy! For the first time in our nation's Constitutional history, your Parliament has passed a Constitutional amendment/revision with the required 2/3 majority of ALL Members of Parliament! Since we have 29 seated Members, 19 was the threshold we needed to meet to pass the Supreme Court amendment.

During the week, some Members debated on the practicality of the 2/3 majority, claiming that it was "impossible". To be quite honest, it was me who proposed this requirement for all Constitutional amendments. It was also me who proposed the Supreme Court amendment. This left me to realize the arduous task of rallying Members of Parliament into being active on the forums and voting for the proposal. I was able to whip up bipartisan support for this proposal, and led many Members to their first non-game vote.

We should now realize that it is in the nation's interest to keep the 2/3 requirement. It is not impossible, it just takes some work, and compromise. It encourages dialog with silent Members, and gets people engaged in the process. I am proud of this accomplishment tonight!

The Supreme Court of eBelgium

- The Supreme Court will review ongoing proposals and/or proposals not legitimately due only.
- If the Supreme Court finds an ongoing proposal and/or proposal not legitimately due that do not favor legitimacy nor favor validity, the Supreme Court may revoke the proposal's validity making it fully null.
- The Court will consist of 5 Justices. These Justices cannot be currently serving in a governmental position (Parliament, PM, or Cabinet). They must have a good understanding of the Constitution and the legislative process. They will serve a maximum individual term of 3 months, but they reserve the right to resign their position. The Prime Minister will nominate Justices when the occasion calls for it. Parliament will then vote to approve the nominee.

What now?

Now Ragoth will be tasked with nominating the inaugural bench of Justices. Choose wisely, fine sir! Also, a new subsection on the forums will need to be devoted to the activities of the Court. There are other kinks that need to be straightened out, but...that's above my pay grade!
