I have been playing for 5 months and each time my party has failed to secure a seat.
It is sad to see excellent players like Mr Woldy leave the party, because of multiple candidates splitting the vote.

I did not stand last time and encouraged everyone to only vote for one candidate

nice. it's because new players just join the biggest party then do nothing in it. i.e VOTE.
