The war in Britain comes to a close

SUMMARY

Following the defeat of US forces in the Battle of London and the Serbian capture of Liaoning, the war in the United Kingdom has ended. The peace in Britain comes on the heels of intense fighting between Croatia and Hungary in Austria. EDEN is similarly engaged in Central Turkey, where the Greeks are attempting to break the Phoenix lines in Anatolia. In Asia, the United States and China are eyeing the Phoenix occupation zone in Central Asia, while Poland and Spain consider their options in South America.


UNITED KINGDOM

At Midnight Eastern Standard Time, the US President Josh Frost declared an armistice with the United Kingdom in anticipation of a final peace treaty. Despite intense EDEN attacks that saw Britain reduced to their capital in London, it was decided the final push to capture the city would prove too much of a distraction while EDEN remains intensely engaged in Central Europe and Asia. The President and Military commanders have affirmed the decision by stating that Britain holds no strategic value. This is not entirely accurate however. Britain does not hold any strategic value to EDEN, but as an asset of Phoenix it is invaluable. The fact that the UK borders so many EDEN countries is both bad for Britain and great for Hungary. In the past, the UK has used its position to attack major EDEN nations in support of major Hungarian or Russian offensives against the United States and Scandinavia, as well as to try and halt similar counterattacks. At one point, the United Kingdom had occupied the entire Northeastern portion of the United States because President Jewitt was forced to retreat battles rather than risk losing damage in critical fights like Kyushu. This reason is also why the United States ceded the State of Delaware to Canada (that and the only thing that comes from Delaware is Credit Card offers). One will hope that any neutral peace treaty signed will include the stipulation that the United Kingdom cannot attack a EDEN country for a period of time. If this is the case, then we have successfully extracted the strategic benefit of the war. If Britain will be allowed to go back to their old tricks of attacking all their neighbors at the request of Hungary, then we are back to square one again.


CENTRAL EUROPE

Croatia invaded Austria several days ago in a drive for the Polish border. According to Croatia, they had an agreement with the previous Austria President for region swaps. Unfortunately, that President lost his reelection and the new President refused to do the swaps. In response Croatia invaded Austria and went for the Polish border anyhow. Hungary used its open war (that was incidentally also an attempt to invade Austria) to region swap into Upper Austria in an effort to halt the Croatian move. Unfortunately for Hungary, they have a battery of activated MPP’s in Croatia due to their repeated efforts to invade and occupy Northwest Croatia. The battles in Upper Austria did not go well for Hungary as consequence.

With Croatia securing its land bridge, Poland entered the Czech Republic and has connected with the Croatian occupation zone in Austria. The Polish invasion of the Czech Republic caused a great deal of consternation, but a quick glance at the map will show what the plan is. After securing the western territories of the country, Poland has formed a land bridge for Croatia. Additionally, the Polish President maintained that previous Czech governments were involved in EDEN’s planning, but that the country is succumbing to a PTO by “adventurers” who are intent of winning medals and looting the treasury, as well as torpedoing a planned merger of the country with Slovakia into Czechoslovakia. The President of Poland's explanation was additionally affirmed by the former Czech President and the current President of Slovakia. Unfortunately this was not enough to quell the outrage in Poland’s Congress, which was furious they had not been informed by the President prior to him orchestrating a war via chain reaction. The Polish President was subsequently removed from office by the Congress.

With the President of Poland now removed, it will be interesting to see what Poland plans to do next, especially now that they have connected with Croatia despite Hungary’s best efforts. Right now, it is hard to determine what Croatia and Poland intend to do with their common border. One scenario would have Croatia heading towards South America to aid the Polish and the Spanish in a triple invasion of Brazil. Another would involve Croatia taking over some of Poland and Spain’s regions in France and Germany in order to reduce the risk posed to resistance wars being successful. Both Scenarios are not good for Hungary, so you can expect that the Hungarians will do everything they can to try and break the Croatian connection with Poland.


FINAL ANALYSIS

On the face of things, peace with the United Kingdom was the right decision. Its clear that the PEACE infiltration from July was enormously successful in breaking the country away from the US and Canada. It is not just the will of GLaDos and Dishmcd’s anymore, but the will of the British public in general. I had personally toyed with the idea of an occupation of Britain successfully pulling the country away from Hungary, Serbia and Russia. It just does not sit well with my view of the Universe to have Great Britain at war with the United States, Canada and Australia. Since we won’t get the UK to come to its senses, we will have to take what we can get, and if that means some sanity on our Atlantic border, then this was a success. Overall, Phoenix has managed to hang on despite the intensity of EDEN’s attacks, and even managed to roll back some earlier victories thanks to the surprise assistance of Pakistan in creating a land bridge for Serbia. With the war in England now over, it may only be a matter of time before Serbia and the United States go head to head for the first time eRepublik history.
