The Walking Dead

Day 967, 18:36 Published in USA USA by Doe22

Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t want to alarm you, but I wanted you to know that we are completely surrounded by zombies.

That’s right, the walking dead are all around us.

Now, if this were real life I would advise you to grab all the non-perishable food and weapons that you can and head for the nearest safe house, but since this is eRepublik, you don’t have to worry quite as much.

I wanted to point out an interesting little fact. As you may have noticed, the eUS population and the Global population have been growing quite a bit since eRepublik Rising went live. In this first week of Rising the US population has grown by 902 citizens (5.43😵 and Global population has grown by 16,332 citizens (5.41😵. These are the largest gains we’ve seen in weeks and seem to be a very positive sign for the state of the game after our recent declines.

If you’re like me then your first thought upon seeing these numbers is, “Great, we’re growing!” But there’s something fishy about this. I mean I know Rising is a wonderful game that everyone loves, but I can’t see why it’s suddenly growing so much. Thinking about this I remembered something from a recent eRepublik Insider. And I quote:

“As a welcome gift we have increased the health for all of you to 100! We want to thank you all for your patience and for your support.”

And herein lies the problem. Though it was, of course, very nice of the admins to reset our health to 100, they set everyone’s health to 100. So even someone who quit weeks ago and was on the verge of death suddenly had 100 health. They have become the living dead.

Our natural population loss completely stopped. We’ve had a net gain of citizens over the past week simply because no one has died. The gains we thought we were getting are most likely false.

So what’s this mean? One thing: death is coming.

If each zombie citizen loses 4 wellness per day from not eating (assuming most of them don’t have houses) then we should see a massive die-off around August 8th.

EDIT: Much thanks to mi lyfe is average for pointing out that wellness does not decrease linearly for citizens without food. You can read the wiki article on the topic, but it looks like it takes 45 days for a citizen to go from 100 wellness down to 0. If that's the case then we should see that die-off around August 21st.

After that the changes in our population numbers should better reflect reality. Hopefully we’ll see them continue to rise, but until that day comes, we can’t know. For now, just remember to take this population growth with a grain of salt, and watch out for zombies.

tl;dr: The dead walk the Earth, everything we thought we knew is a lie and only the sweet embrace of death will save us.
