The United States attacks the Phoenix fortress of Liaoning

Day 760. The United States has formally declared war on Iran and launched an offensive into occupied Liaoning Province, China. Liaoning is one of the three Asian “Pillars” that make up the foundation of the Phoenix Alliances’ economic power. The importance of this region can be summed up in two words. “High Iron”. Iron is the rarest commodity in the eWorld and is used to make guns, the most widely sold manufactured item. The combination of rarity and high demand makes the owning of a High Iron region a veritable Gold gusher for a countries monetary reserves. For this reason, Iran will be desperate to hang on to Liaoning, because once lost they will never be able to reclaim it.

Defending Liaoning will be a daunting prospect for Iran however, as they are going up against the United States. After losing to India and a bunch of militia groups like ST6, it can be stated with very high confidence Iran does not have the capability of halting a US offensive on its own. Fortunately for Iran, the leading nation of Phoenix, Hungary, has reasons of its own to stop the American advance in Liaoning, apart from the simple nature of their alliance. Liaoning is the gateway the United States must take to reach the true prize of this war; The Hungarian occupied region of Heilongjiang. We must remember that Hungary launched the North American War and had France destroy Canada for the sole purpose of creating a way to region swap over to Heilongjiang, which was ruled by Iran at the time. For obvious reasons, that route is no longer even remotely available to Hungary anymore. If Heilongjiang falls along with Liaoning, Hungary will never see High Iron again unless they try to pry it from nearby Greece (an unlikely scenario).

This is what is going to make Liaoning such a struggle. Heilongjiang has the potential of being the biggest battle in the history of eRepublik, but it is a battle Hungary does not want to fight. Phoenix will want to halt the Americans in Liaoning, and prevent Heilongjiang from ever being attacked. To that end, we can expect the entire Phoenix Alliance to send as much of their tanking force to Iran as possible, setting the stage for a titanic clash in Liaoning. The amount of Gold that is going to be spent on this fight will probably break all the records. For Phoenix, this is a must win. They cannot afford any defeats. For the United States, this will be the crucible in which it shows off the strength it obtained during the North American War. That power was on display in the Battle of Manitoba, the current record for a 1 v 1 battle… but it was a battle that came during the collapsing phase of PEACE GC. This will be a battle against a fully unified Alliance, and will be certain to test the very limit of ability possessed by the United States and EDEN.

As for what is going on in the rest of the world, Brazil is making another play at South Australia. This is a bit of an embarrassment for me, as it turns out I was wrong about a detail of the initiative rules. I had always operated under the belief that you could not attack the same province twice in a 24 hour period. Apparently, this is not the case. With two attack options, Brazil can keep cycling initiative against Australia by making sure they always have a battle open. Fortunately for the Aussies, Peru has declared war on Brazil and will be able to block Brazil's initiative with its own attacks, permitting the Australians to go on the offensive. As for the initiative rules themselves, they suck, they have always sucked, and they should be changed.

Other incidents of minor note, Sweden is attacking Denmark again to move down towards the German border. Germany for its part preempted a potential Polish attack by launching another strike towards Saxony. In RL news, some hackers have decided to DDOS the eUSA forums, including the military coordination forums. Because eRepublik rules forbid “accusations without proof”, I will let the reader decide who in eRepublik could possibly be behind yet another illegal real world action. Personally, it brings a smile to my face that the unnamed individuals are so desperately scared of the eUSA while simultaneously possessing such misguided priorities that they would resort to becoming petty criminals in order to win a game.
