The Taxation Fiasco

Day 677, 22:42 Published in Canada Canada by Gaius Julius Caesar00

I would first like to thank my Alberta for voting me my strongest mandate yet in this past election, the sixth highest in Canada. I will continue to faithfully serve my office as long as I have your support. I would also like to congratulate Taiwan Panda on his record-breaking 135 votes. Great work! In total, CSD candidates received 26.28% of the entire Canadian vote!

I have noticed that a number of citizens do not understand the currently proposed taxes. Allow me the opportunity to explain. Congress does all of its work on the eCanada forum. A law not discussed there is illegal and must be voted down, so all Congressmen must participate to be successful. Here's the link for those who do not have it:

The Official eCanada Forums

You will have to register and request a citizen mask (you must have in-game Canadian citizenship to qualify for the citizen mask). The mask will allow you to view the majority of the forum and Open Congress.

The first rejected proposal of the session was made by Patar333 almost as soon as he made it to Congress. This is his first election and he made his proposal without understanding proper Congressional procedure. I informed him privately and he has since joined us on the forum.

The second rejected tax proposal of this session was made by Lupus Charrington. It was a raise in the New Citizen Fee and it was very similar to the first in that was a clear break in procedure and therefore illegal (requiring a "no" vote). I have not yet seen him in Congress but I hope he will join us soon.

Directly succeeding these illegal measures were a pair of tax proposals made by Dean22. These were in line with the Prime Minister's tax suggestions but broke with procedure as there was no Speaker approval for the bills, and there was no substantial discussion on the part of Congress. The Speaker Hyamora Palaschuk ordered that they be repealed and Nicktheh put forth both tax repeals.

Hopefully by this point all the new Congresssmen are getting settled in and becoming familiar with procedure. We are now also in the process of electing a new Speaker as the current Speaker of the House must step down as he's no longer eligible for the office.
