The State of the Newbdom

Day 1,169, 18:52 Published in USA USA by Malco Reynol

Hello America

A bit of housekeeping first, David Fallingstar, as my first subscriber you will be receiving 1 gold...it may not be copious, but it will have to do (don't return it, just let it happen)

It's not easy being a newb, I hear tell it isn't easy being green either but that isn't what I am hear to talk about. I look around and see all of these established players, these players who have been in Congress multiple times and worked literally hundreds of days in a row and it is hard not to feel intimidated. Sure, there are plenty of calls to "get us more involved" and "make the game more fun" but I gotta tell you, as a new player I don't see much action backing up those words.

so cute, so wide-eyed, so innocent

Don't get me wrong, there have been some great people that have helped me out in the past couple of days. I have gotten into a political party and joined the Training Corps, hell I even offered the President of these United States a hummer in his private IRC quarters. Needless to say, a little more time and I will be feeling less like a newb and more like an everyday player. But, BUT my personal experience does that necessarily mean the system currently in place works. Many nubile young players are left feeling overwhelmed and cut off from the vast majority of 'citizens' and I feel this has to do with a lack of newb representation in the halls of our Executive Branch.

My eRepublik journey began on Day 1156, I am currently halfway to my first Hard Worker medal and I recently reached a high enough level in game to technically qualify me to run for President. However, the youngest member of the Cabinet for this month is HobbitTon, born on Day 950, two hundred and six days before myself! The youngest member of the President's Cabinet started playing (if my math is correct) right around the time that V2 came online.

young, but maturing, the future of our nation

Here is a further breakdown of President Haliman's Cabinet by age:

Days 300-500: 7

Days 500-700: 13

Days 700-900: 10

Days 900-Present: 3

Certainly experience is a desirable quality in leadership and if these people have been willing to dedicate so much of themselves to eRep they deserve to hold positions of power. The point I am trying to get at is this: If our government is truly serious about involving newer players and making the game more fun for them from the beginning, there needs to be someone close to the President that can give him/her a new players perspective on things. An advisory/liaison position that would rotate in a new player(s) each month to keep the President informed of what is working and what can be done better.

wise,respected,the ideal everyone strives for

Perhaps my view will fall on deaf ears, perhaps only 7 or 8 people will read this article and maybe those that do read it will just disagree with my idea. But if you happen across this article. If you have stuck with it to this point and if you agree with what I am saying, please help this article spread.

You can't stop The Signal
