The Sounds of Defeat

Day 616, 06:36 Published in Canada Canada by Rigour6

The loss of Quebec was a severe blow. Alberta even more so. Now we look around and hear the sounds of defeat. Some of it propaganda of course, because our opponents want and need us to give up. Some of it is frustration.

We can finger point: why didn't our tanks do this and that? It's the PM's fault. etc. etc.

OK, how about stopping with the finger-pointing and the looking back and face some facts:

We are now, and have always been, the severe underdogs in this war.

Our opponents have greater numbers, more production, more high-level soldiers.

Our opponents have prepared for this war.

Our opponents have executed well. They have particularly timed attacks well to take advantage of time zone differences.

We're not "losing" the war because of our incompetence, our leader's incompetence, lack of trying. We're losing because games like this have a relentless math to them, and right now we're on the wrong side of it.

Does this mean we've lost and the war is over and we should sue for peace?

In my opinion, not at all.

First of all, there are more important things than losing individual battles, or indeed, an entire war. Turning your back on your friends and allies and what you know is right is certainly among them.

Second, if victory is ever going to come, it's going to come when the freedom-loving peoples of the world start doing what's right collectively, not individually. If all the Germans who really wanted to be free were fighting here with us, and all the British who felt the same were, the numbers would be on our side. Each domino that has capitulated in part (and I recognize and salute the people who have left beloved home to fight with us) has made the aggressor's job that much easier. Why would be part of that awful pattern and turn our back on the Yanks, the Spanish, the Romanians who have fought side by side with us at every juncture of history?

Third, the longer the war goes on, the greater the chances that the aggressors will run out of money, lose cohesion and start fighting amongst themselves. The greater the chance that neutrals will be inspired by our stand and join with us, that the British and Germans will be reminded of their better instincts. The longer the war goes on, the greater our chance to turn the tide. I know we're the internet generation, but we need to have a longer attention span.

Finally, the longer we stand unbowed against odds, the more glorious will be our tale in the ehistory books, the more we will express what is the true spirit of our nation and our culture, and the more we will teach those of the world that they should never ever do this again. Let our resolute stand, our refusal to bend the knee, our steadfast support for our true friends, let it be an example to the world. Let us be the greatest citizens of this eworld, not because we seek to rule over others, but because we refuse to let them rule over us.
