The Shannon and I - A Love Story

Day 795, 13:14 Published in Ireland Ireland by Darragh O Faolain

Good Evening Fellow eIrelanders,

It's manifesto time again, time to extract our age old cliches, the sentences we use monthly to pay attention to what is expected of all candidates. Of course, in the end Party Vote Management will decide who get elected these days and who does not. /cynicism.

I've been a TD since last June, 7 consecutive terms. I have represented the Shannon for all of that time, and I have mostly enjoyed it. I've seen my fellow TDs change an awful lot, Tiberius Clarke being one of the earlier representatives, back in the Ireland First days, Charles McArthur, an IUP candidate banned for multi-ing 2 days after the election, Deciever, the ever present IFP zombie, ooohahahighfields or whatever his name is, the party hopper. In short, we havent had very many good TDs, probably due to our position as one of the peripheral, sparsly populated regions. Of course, there are a few notable exceptions, people like biffo and Niall-H and Niall H were/are active representatives. So, I before I get into myself, I 'd like to ask that you respect yourselves by voting for people who will be proper representatives and say no to the party/parties who plan on getting people to flood the constituency because a low vote count can get you elected.

As for me, for those who don't know me I am a 5 time Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education, Deputy of Intelligence, Foreign Affairs (x3) and a few others I dont remember 😛 I've been Ceann Comhairle and I am Vice President this month. You may have picked up I'm not as active as I once was, overall this is due to the fact that the onus is on the newer members to get involved and to play a bigger role in governance. As well I decided to let people see that the government is run the same way when the oligarchy is not involved, and we arent some giant conspiracy targeted at conning the public into keeping eIreland in our grasp.

As to what I will do this month, it'll be the same as always, I'll be active (missed 2 votes in the past 4 months), contribute to Dail Discussion and I would also like to put my name forward for Ceann Comhairle (Speaker of the House) this month, if possible. I can say here and now, that I do not, have not and will not advocate for the joining of an alliance. I have yet to be convinced of any tangible benefits to suggest joining an alliance exhibits anything more favourable than pro active independence, and indeed has many not as nice aspects. I will leave any other policy statements aside as I think that to include them right now would divide and divide the manifesto. I would ask you when voting to consider what that person has to offer, what they have shown in the past and not what party they come from or who somone else tells you to vote for.

Thank You

Darragh O Faolain TD
Vice President
Candidate for the Shannon
