The Road to Recovery
Natster
There are a lot of questions that have to be weighed on when you are a country's president.
How much income tax is too much, and how much is too little?
What tarrifs should we put on imports?
How can we increase our activity?
I would like to focus on economy. These are just thoughts, and whether they are accepted or vilified, it doesn't matter to me. I just need to air them out.
I believe that a low income tax is crucial to making players more active. The more expendable income they have, the easier it is for them to support themselves. Plus, a low income tax may be a good thing to use as incentive to recruit players into Canada. The larger the tax base, the more the revenue flow, and as an additional positive, we could have some extra regular fighters to fight for Canada's freedom.
I also believe that our taxes need to be lowered on our market to sell. Again, this goes back to putting money in they players hands. I'm sort of a right leaning thinker, but I believe the government should be just enough to support it's active MU's, national policies, and general country administration.
I am glad for Oinyo being our Country's president, and it's not a job that I would even consider for a long time. I can only imagine how active you would have to be in this game.
Personally, I'm just active enough to get in my fights and work for the day. However, a little bit disappointed in the lack of fights available to the average player. In some ways, I wish resistant wars didn't cost so much to start with very little return.
I'm way off topic here, but I really want to vent about Spain. I'm angry that we haven't been able to make a dent in their occ's. Even more important is a strategy on how to get Spain out of Canada for good. A targeted strike? Mass destruction bombs? Anything? Let's get those Spanish conquistador's out of Canada!

I like that you're thinking about taxes but it's pretty clear that they are pretty much irrelevant due to the current state of the economic module.
Yes, taxes mean that players who buy food and weapons from the market are paying more than they necessarily need to be. This disproportionately affects newer players as older, more established players tend to have adequate infrastructure so as to, at the very least, not need to buy their food off the market.
Older players are also more likely to have alternative means for purchasing weapons. The four sources of non-Canadian market weapons that I can immediately think of are: 1) their own companies; 2) their MUs (both simply as supplies and through slave pits); direct purchases through donations; 3) buying in other countries which often have much lower prices.
I think the unimportance of the market is borne out through our tax revenue numbers. Unfortunately, I don't have numbers from later than early May but it does not appear that we're collecting a large amount of taxes, maybe an average of a few dollars per citizen (the only ones who can currently buy off the Canadian market) per day. As an average, that would be like if every citizen worked for market wages and spent no more than their salary buying things on the Canadian market.
Wages themselves are likely only a tiny part of the economy, though. Older players tend to have companies in order to get a bit (or a lot) more money (though unfortunately it's really not all that much at the money, thanks to the occupation). It "only" take a few dozen gold to double a citizen's earnings, even under occupation conditions (less produced and sold at lower prices). (Unfortunately?) the best way to make money is through raw materials which cannot be taxed when sold.
My point is that there is probably a lot more money made in eCanada than our tax revenue would indicate. Maybe a better solution is to encourage donations to the Treasury. 1/30 days is only 3% tax.
Taxes are discussed by the congress, though IIRC if the CP really wished, s/he could veto any changes.
Regarding the occupation, I always believe that allied coordination is key. Canada alone does not have the military prowess, therefore must rely on others' support and must coordinate and communicate with those allies.
I also suggest not spending any money to start a resistance war (RW) unless the Executive government asks for it. That way, you know that the government (and most likely other allies) will be supporting the RW so for certain you won't fight alone. Thus, there should be more influence and a greater likelihood that the RW will be successful and that you can recoup your 10k cc loss with the 5g RW Hero medal.
I don't remember there ever being a veto specifically for taxes.
As for RWs, we need to figure out what our priorities are. Do we want to be a distraction? Do we want a source of battles for True Patriot medals? Do we want a region back no matter the cost and no matter when or is our goal to make sure we have a Congress? How we approach RWs depends on the answers to these questions.
People will RW if we tell them to or not. This is not too much of an issue as the people that support them usually have boat loads of CAD.
Mary is right in what she wrote and this is one of the key things we are working on right now.
You probably notice more and more but each day we are seeing our damage in our battles rocket up due to the new allies and new friends we are getting.
We will raise our numbers higher and higher every day until eCan is free one way or another 🙂
Yeah, there's really no stopping RWs from popping up but it wouldn't hurt to either let people know that they shouldn't be looking to start them.
Unless you're saying we should be fighting in them. You comment kind of confused me there. You seem to be implying that we're coordinating with our allies in terms of battles (great stuff, even if it's common sense and existing practice) yet you also say that we're seeing more and more allies on the battlefield (sorry, since we don't have a region, I don't see a significant difference in their impact than in the recent past, though thanks guys).
So should we be fighting in these RWs alongside our new allies or did they not get the memo that we're not trying yet? Either way, it wouldn't hurt for you to clarify what's expected here.
@Chochi: I've never seen a CP veto a tax change, but legally speaking (correct me if I'm wrong), it should be possible for a CP to do veto it.

I dislike seeing people waste their resources. Not everyone realizes that if you put 10k cc into an eCan RW without allied support and coordination, that 10k cc is effectively taken out of the WHOLE eRep economy, since you won't recuperate your loss with the 5g RW medal.
I tend to hoard a lot of my resources, i.e. Energy Bars (EBs), rockets, boosters, and anything that will give me extra damage aside from my regular food fights (ff) unless I know FOR CERTAIN that I am not fighting alone.
There is no point in going all-in when no one else is going all-in.
All citizens should be encouraged to NOT start any RWs without the direction of the Executives. Execs should be the ones directing what and when the best time is to open a RW as they should have the most information of who will be fighting with us. Be wise and do not waste your resources.
It's hard to fault your logic, Mary but there is one benefit to the RWs: TP medals. Of course, it's impossible to know whether enough people are getting them to make up for the 10k cc though averaged out we might be.
Also it's probably not worth getting into a hypothetical discussion on CP powers. : P The CP has a veto for votes on the forum that can be overriden by Congress. But Congress could also skip a forum vote and just vote in-game where the CP just has one vote. Not worth getting hung up on, of course.
