The Responsibility of Governorship
Reiji Mitsurugi
This is Reiji Mitsurugi, addressing you from his private residence on Shikoku Island. I speak as a concerned citizen today, rather than President of the Imperial Sun Party or Speaker for the Imperial Diet. Hence, I use my private publication.
「 国民の福利は政府の責任だ 」
When one is elected to be a governor, one surrenders oneself to certain responsibilities. In our republic, the people put their trust in individuals to lead them properly, in the ways that most benefit them. In Japan, our people elect an individual to govern righteously, harmoniously, and with respect to the other elected governors.
It is with great sadness that I tearfully report that President KITA Ikki has disappointed me. A mentor and a friend (don't misunderstand, no matter his political mistakes, always a friend) to me, I had enormously high expectations for the Kita administration. Those expectations have been let down. And the Japanese people have been let down.
KITA Ikki is letting down the people.
As the President of the Imperial Sun Party, a recipient of the Order of the Golden Kite, and (lest we forget) an avid reader of this reputable journal of opinion, I imagined a Kita presidency would be an era of righteous action, of harmonious unity, of flourishing republicanism and of pan-Asianism. These ideas have perished from my mind. The best we can hope for is to prevent the total diplomatic isolation of Japan (I believe the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Angrr, is capable of this), to prevent the collapse of our monetary market and economy (I remain skeptical of Huang Chung, Minister of Finance), and a swift end to the dictatorial administration.
Rest assured, I am no democrat. I am a firm believer in an authoritarian republic, just as the Imperial Sun Party exists to promote. But the authority of the state must be used to promote and preserve a harmonious society under our sovereign the Emperor. That is the image of an Imperial Sun future. Kita has failed to bring that kind of governance; not only has he failed the people, he has also failed the Party.
Party officials are disappointed
But you are only hearing my rhetoric right now. What has Kita actually done or not done? Well, the catalyst, the final straw on this old camel's back, so to speak, was this matter of a mutual protection pact with Greece. The President had been reluctant, despite the significant outpouring of support in the legislature for the pact. So I took the initiative and launched a vote to indicate exactly where the support lies. The result of the vote was nearly 90% of present and voting representatives were in favor of the pact, including representatives from the Imperial Sun Party, the Godzilla Party, the Sumo Fitness Club and the United Lolies of Japan. The President, as of this publication, remains stubborn.
That issue alone, however, is not enough to drive me to such a tirade as this. His blatant disregard for the republican system and the will of the people, though disturbing, is not enough. I respect the people's decision to elect him. But please, my friends, there is more to the story, and I am not alone in my growing discontent.
President KITA Ikki has given the cold shoulder to China, to India, to Malaysia and Thailand, to all the peoples of East Asia. There have been no top-level talks between the Chinese and Japanese presidents, and I strongly suspect Kita hasn't met with other Asian leaders either. He has geared his foreign policy toward some sort of pro-western agenda that certainly does not sit with the principles of the Imperial Sun Party, and I certainly hope the people of Japan don't approve either. What started as a non-aligned policy (of which I whole-heartedly approve) has become an abandon-Asia policy, an ally-with-the-Russians policy (even as the Chinese battle the Russians in a desperate fight for northeast China in Jilin), it's a never-deploy-our-soldiers policy (even as the Chinese, again, battle for the freedom of Manchuria). The Kita administration's foreign policy has ignored the needs of our friends in Asia, more concerned with appeasing Phoenix leaders in Budapest or Moscow or wherever that decidedly western alliance governs itself. He worries that deploying troops to Jilin or signing a mutual protection pact with Greece (a most noble nation whose battles have served Japan well in recent days) would upset Russia and the rest of Phoenix.
KITA Ikki's foreign policy.
Well I certainly hope it does upset them! This is the same Phoenix that rejected Japan's ultimatum. They rejected our outstretched hand of diplomacy, forcing us to give up our land to the United States. This is the same Phoenix that continues to occupy Jilin, Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang, despite continued efforts by the Chinese to remove them. This is the same Phoenix that has just started a new offensive against mainland Asia. I consider it an honor to upset those criminals. Were I not so sure I can do more for the cause of Asia from the government here in Japan, I would be there myself, fighting in each battle in Jilin for the freedom of the eastern peoples.
To those who say we must stand with the winning team, to those who are more interested in the safe path than the righteous one, I promise you this battle will not last forever. China grows stronger every day. Their resources are plentiful, and their population is increasing rapidly. Before long, they will be a world power to rival any other, and eventually they will be a world power to surpass any other. Fighting on the side of China and East Asia is not only righteous, my friends, it is very much in our own interests. All we need is time.
The Chinese will not stand alone!
And when that time comes, the oppressive peoples of the west will regret what they have done to Asia. And no more will I write in English. The westerners will learn my language.
At least enough to beg for mercy.
For now, it is President Kita who must beg the forgiveness of the Japanese people, of the Imperial Diet, and of the Imperial Sun Party. Mr. President, you have disappointed all of us.
It is my great disappointment in KITA Ikki, and my concern for the future of Japan and Asia that has led me to declare my intention to pursue the Imperial Sun Party's nomination for the presidency of Japan. I have never sought the office before, or else had ambitions toward it. I realize the presidency is a demanding and largely thankless job. I prefer easier tasks that come with great kudos. Still, when the country calls in this way, it must be answered. That is why I must now put the Party in the difficult position of choosing between me and the man who led it (quite well, I might add) for some time. Unless he should opt not to seek a second term, of course.
This means I will not be running for a seat in the Imperial Diet, and thus the legislature will have to choose a new Speaker come the twenty fifth. As always, I trust their judgment.
「 政府に方針を変えさせるの は出来ない相談だ」
We are a republic. It is time we are reminded of this fact.

Roar for Reiji
One of the best written articles eJapan has seen in a long time. I look foward to your campaign
Well written article Reiji! Good luck!
Good luck Reiji! As always a well written article and good read.
Reiji was the first person I ever spoke to when I came to eJapan. We argued, in fact, in public over the rights of the immigrants and the xenophobia of that time. Reading his writings (and later the writings of KITA Ikki) were the main driving force behind my joining the Imperial Sun Party and serving there for 5 months. I would say at this point that Reiji is not only a friend, but a teacher. I have learned much from him and adopted some of his own principles.
There is no more honorable or deserving person in eJapan than Reiji to take up the office of Presidency. Good Luck, Reiji.
A Great Article/Speech. You've served the Diet tremendously in your duties, and I hope your successor manages to fill your large shoes.
A well written article, but I beg to differ with your assessment of the Kita Ikki's presidency. I am proud to have him as our President. I am not pleased with the path you have set for the ISP under your guidance, but respect you as an independent, concerned citizen of the eWorld with loyalties that go beyond boundaries.
Took you 8 months, but I knew it would happen eventually.
Rage for Reiji!
Well written, Reiji. Good luck with your nomination. 🙂 Should you be successful, it is my hope that the harmonious society and unity that you speak of will be achieved in your first term. Besides the fact that we are a republic, it may be more important we be reminded that it is first and foremost a community.
Ten thousand years!

Just ignore Adavek. He's batshit insane, anyways.
I hope you win the presidency. I'm personally going to vote for you when the time comes. You put up with my crap, and you still act like a friend to me. That's enough for me to like you.
I try to be a friend to everyone, Adam. It's part of being harmonious. Even to my friend the Theocrat there. Hello, Banewreaker. I hope the sangria is going down easy.
Best of luck to you Reiji.

For some reason Adavek has started a RW in Jeju. See:

Oh, and Akki is the current red battle hero.
Voted, and good luck!
You were certainly a friend to eChina back in the Goon era. Good luck Reiji, I wish you success.
voted and good luck!
voted and good luck!
Good luck Reiji!
Well said old man, looking to work with you at the head of eJapan !
Good luck, Reiji. This brings me hope of a more united Japan.
When KITA Ikki was going for the president, he publicly announced that he would usher the country into the era of Shin-sakoku (New National Isolation). This is EXACTLY what we get now.
You say that we need to remember we are a republic. I will ask you to remember that we are a presidential republic.
Now, of course, we can argue that the president should be more active. That is a valid point. However, no one of the people who left comments in this thread knows for sure how much time KITA Ikki spends in eRepublik, or outside, planning things out.
You are a great politician, Reiji, and obviously, I don't want to spoil our relationship. However, you sometimes like to provoke schisms in the party, or the country, and that is why I personally cannot trust you as much. For instance, the other time you went with Godzillas when they were proposing a region swap in Kyushu, ignoring your own party. Back then I had no real opinion on the issue, I saw you being adamant on that idea and thought I would help you out. However, the fact remains, that it were you who didn't want to listen to anyone else, and wouldn't listen. Everybody knows you just like eChina 🙂 But you are a politician of eJapan. You act too selfishly at times, and that is why I cannot approve of this.
You would probably make a good president, because you are able to be friends with everyone (for instance, you like IRC, but some people like me are not so fond of it). But in our case, I'd rather prefer if you were a friend of our party.
I voted on this article, and I also wish you good luck in your beginnings. I want to hear KITA Ikki's response on this. I do agree that I would like see with my own eyes KITA Ikki being more active. However, I do NOT approve of causing a schism inside a party. And if I had to choose between you and KITA Ikki, I would choose KITA Ikki.
"When KITA Ikki was going for the president, he publicly announced that he would usher the country into the era of Shin-sakoku (New National Isolation). This is EXACTLY what we get now."
The problem is that since then whenever anyone has brought up the problems isolationalism causes, then KITA has been out there shooting it down saying that the neutrality he wishes for is not the same as isolationalism.
Either way what we have right now IS isolationalism and it's hurting our country and our relations to other countries.

Great artcile Reiji, as always, I wish you the best of luck with your plans. It will be interresting to see who is going to eat up the Shikoku votes now.
You got my vote, Reiji. There aren't many people around that would be more qualified for the job than you.
Article of eChina politician. Practical using of "allies".
Voted and supported.
There isn't anyone better.
I supported the MPP with eRussia, too. We need it to protect eJapan. It's unfortunate that people who wish eJapan to join the Eden alliance are now voting in congress as a block instead of running a clear campaign on what their foreign policy goals are.
Azaelll, that's a selfish reason to betray our allies. If Russia wishes to attack us, they would have to contend with eUSA, anyways. It's not about joining EDEN, it's about putting our allies before our personal interests.
While I voted for this article and wish Reiji-san the best of luck in the upcoming CP's election...
Reiji has thrown in his hat into partisan politics with this move. (along with his bifocals and cane from what I can see in above picture.) This article is essentially A vote of No Confidence against a standing president, an internal challenge within ISP.
Just take care how you treat your party in the aftermath. From where I stand (meaning I am not privy to internal ISP communications) The few ISP long time members that are willing to comment on your article (but especially the lack of comments from the long time ISP veterans) seems to indicate some ambivalence with respect to your move, whether content, timing, method or just being politically astute.
With respect to CC's declaration of candidacy for CP article (assuming that was what his article was), his forcefulness is understandable, it is his job to clearly challenge as the opposition party. However your have the more challenging role, unless it is your intention to further weaken your party beyond what Kita's administration might have done.
I am not so much disagreeing with the content of your article. However I do question whether you fully realize the political impact you action will have upon your party.
Regardless - I wish the both of you luck in the upcoming CP election.
Good luck Reiji, good article
Good luck, Sir.
As the new President of the Imperial Sun Party, I am doing what is necessary to secure the future of the Party. And as a citizen of Japan, I am doing what is necessary to secure the future of the country. Kyuutai doesn't agree with me, Azaelll seems to imply I want to join EDEN (does he know me at all?). But they will come to know the truth.
Kita's policies and efforts have been a disappointment, neither Azaelll nor Kyuutai have challenged this statement. In fact, the only one who has challenged it so far is Adavek. For what that's worth.
In any case, here's to the future.
>> I supported the MPP with eRussia, too. We need it to protect eJapan.
That's the point though, we don't need it to protect eJapan. There's actually a way to stand up for what you believe in, protect your sovereignty, AND gain respect in the world theatre, and throwing ourselves at the feet of PEACE v.2 isn't the way. If people would actually listen instead of crying "pro-EDEN" every time we do something that Phoenix doesn't like, maybe they would understand easier....
When Phoenix came for revenge in eSK, where was "allies"? They simply uses eJapan. And forgot.
Check again atsumori
I think that before setting a foreign policy involving the projection of force into action, the need to be able to project force is needed. That simply cannot be done by Japan right now with the partisanship and disunity. If you heal those rifts you will be one of the greats. If not, you'll be incompetent partisan trash like so many recent "leaders". Good luck Reiji.
And from all of theocracy,
我们爱你!
😘
Another well-written article from my old friend Reiji Mitsurugi.

I look forward to the election season and know that whoever wins, eJapan will be in good hands.
