The Resistance

Day 1492: From occupied London.

They almost caught me in one of their sweeps. I was riding down an almost empty Oxford Street, my papers and possesions in tow, when their tank rounded the corner. The French flag was clear to be seen on the prow, and I thought I'd had it. They were sure to take and check the bottle of wine in my backpack, sure to check inside the loaf of Warbuton's finest. Check them, and find the encoded messages within.

I knew what I was signing up for. Life in the Resistance is meant to be hard, meant to be a sacrifice. That knowledge does not prepare you! The first time you see a French tank, your heart will leap. When they stop you to check your papers, it'll beat faster. And as they reach into their pocket your mind will race- what will they pull out? Perhaps a cigarette, merely passing the time by feeding a habit. Perhaps a pen, to sign your papers to show where you've travelled. Or maybe, they'll be pulling out their gun, to shoot you dead on the spot. Have they found out? That moment is one of the most tense you will ever experience. One of the most tense, and one of the most exhilerating!

The French soldiers on patrol around the Louvre, in anticipation of retaliatory terror attacks

It's moments like that one, with the enemy stood before my very eyes, that make life worth living in this hell of an occupation. To know that, inevitably, the moron will pull out his cigarette because:

a) he obviously smokes and cares little for his duty in a garrison and
b) he's French, since when did he care about paperwork, or have the intelligence to spot me as a member of the resistance,

and to dare him to do otherwise. To know that my mission will be accomplished, the resistance furthered, this gives my life meaning.
The soldier waved me on. I finished my journey and ended up in the back room of a starbucks just off Regent Street. There I passed on my cargo, the bread and wine, and my immediate superior smiled. It was a template for a new recruitment message for the resistance, he said.

He rea😛

"London is captured, our nation is under siege.
The French, their marauding legion, are here.

Rise up! Rise up now and stand fast!
Stand tall, and send a message to our oppressors:

We shall not be undone. You may have solace in victory for a time,
but we shall not be downtrodden; we shall not despair.

Though we have been damaged, we are not destroyed!
Rise up now, and join THE RESISTANCE!"

I smiled...

So there you have it- there's a new MU in the country and we'd like as many people to join up as possible.

The Government will be using this MU to give op to date and accurate orders to as many people as possible, in addition to supply drops, shout campaigns and a bit of fun in the Voice of the Resistance articles.

So please join up, shout, and volunteer to send invites. When we get more people in, how about volunteering to do some supply drops via shouts? There's plenty for everyone to do, to resist and to accomplish all that we can!
